SOFT OPENING WATCH - Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster

Ok, guests were given paper mine train fastpasses as compensation for room problems last night at All Star Sports. I thought they were just handing them out because the line was pretty long and people were showing them off, I thought it was a "Disney Magic" type thing like that promo from a few years ago. But I guess from what I have heard there were some serious issues with people checking in and getting filthy rooms and people were getting comped hotel nights and fastpasses to smooth things over. Sorry for my confusion.

I waited near the teacups yesterday at 6:30 am and the line moved very fast. Posted wait time was like 3 hours and I was on and off by 7.

I disagree about the interactive queue, people seemed to mess with it briefly but it was as they were moving. And people semed to actually be willing to let you stop and mess with it. No one stopped very long from what I saw. It was cute but not really necessary, IMO. I can see how it might be if the line wasn't continuously moving but it won't make the queue an extra 30 minutes.

No offense to anybody that is doing it but why would you wait over 3 hours for this ride (or any ride EVER)? There is truly no ride in any theme park I've ever been to that is worth standing in line for over 3 hours. In the time standing on line there you can probably ride half of the rides in the rest of the park even if you had to do standby.
Let's see:

Locals - they have ridden everything else multiple times and went to WDW just to ride this new attraction
People who are NOT local - they may or may not have been to WDW before, but want to ride this NEW attraction.

That just about covers it.

Yep. I could have ridden other rides numerous times but I actually felt like waiting for the SDMT. It was fun. It's new. I would never wait three hours for it though. It gets a bad rap, IMO. It's NOT this major thrill but it's a fun ride and I think to call it a kiddie coaster insults it a bit. It was designed with that in mind but it's not.

From a Fantasyland GSM neighbor. It is not technically a "soft open" now. New term, or I never heard it used before, is they are now in "dress rehearsal". Sorry, I did not ask what the difference is, did not think to as I seldom go to MK. He added they are trying odd and even queuing to assure nearly every train will go out full. Five trains running is the goal. It is a people eater he said but like other attractions he fears FP will back up the standby to great lengths. No FP until opening day the 28th. So ride now and ride often before FP ruins it.

I experienced FLE in Fall/12 three times in "dress rehearsal" mode. Got to ride Little Mermaid, dine at BoG, meet Ariel and go to Belle's cottage; all before officially open.

Pretty sure "dress rehearsal" means exactly the same thing as "soft open", with the same expectation of sudden and rotating closures.
It just sounds more user-friendly to a regular guest who would likely have no idea what "soft opening" means.

Plus, it fits with the idea of staff being "cast members," as opposed to employees. This term aligns itself perfectly with that whole theme.

Hi everyone!

I'm in MK today and was just able to change one of my fastpasses to 7DMT for today using the MDE app.

I'm not sure I've heard of anyone getting fastpasses before May 28.

Interesting. If they are doing that, it sounds like they are "soft opening" FP+ usage so that the CMs can get used to having to handle the merge point.

What time were you able to make the change? I'm trying to figure out when it is "enabled" because I was considering heading over tomorrow.
