When I was in California 2 years ago, I almost overlooked it!
A CM told my friend & myself that it was a must see. So we
figured why not...We had time to kill before the Electric Light Parade.
When it was over, we both agreed this would be great in Florida!
Now here it is & I need to try & sneak down there to see this &
Crush 'n' Gusher.

Maybe MKT can bring a reporter with him so non WDWMagic people can
get a report on it also!!! :D

Never was a seinfeld fan. But for those who are unaware, the Pre-show guy voices the character of joe (the former police officer who is bound to a wheelchair) in Family Guy.

But for a true Disney fan we can only think of the preshow guy as the voice of Kronk of The Emperor's new Groove.

Anyone know if it opened at all today? I got there around 4 and there was no sign of any preview. I checked a couple more times before leaving around 6:30 but no dice.

I got 7 rides in yesterday, though. :D

I love Soarin', granted.. there ain't much else to ride @ DCA. My first reaction was-- I have to ride this bad boy AGAIN!! I will not wait in line for longer than 20 minutes, but we do have single rider entrances-- if you are flyin' solo, you're in business. For those who care, or haven't ridden @ DCA, the ride is a hanggliding simulator. You start in three rows front, middle and back and as the ride begins you move to a top, middle and bottom configuration through the mechaincs of the ride. Your row of about 10 riders then glides up and into an IMAX type of movie, over areas of California. I am not good at describing it, but it is awesome. As another contributor mentioned, they pipe in some scents appropriate to the geography, oranges being one, pine and ocean salt air being others. The best line to be in is the first, because you end up at the top of the gliders-- and don't have feet hanging in front of you. Happy trails to all of you who ride before I get there May 21.

Soarin' - A thought

Okay, I have been reading the replies to my original post of this thread and I wanted to express my opinion about the "gentleness" of the ride and the thought that some of you have expressed that this is a "D-Ticket" attraction...

Folks, for a lot of you, your impression of whether Disney's rides are "cool" and "fast" and "thrilling"...and "Oh my god I am dizzy beyond belief" directly reflects your decision of how "great" a Disney Ride is.

Just because an attraction doesn't make your head spin should not have anything to do with your opinion of a Disney attraction being worthy of an "E-Ticket" rating....

Disney's attractions are designed to tell a story. All of the attractions have a beginning, middle, and a Finale. Its about entertaining you in a way only Disney can...Anyone can set up a Motion Simulator at an Air Show and thrill you with crazy motion and crappy video images...But only Disney can IMMERSE you in that experience from beginning to end. Take Soarin' as an example...

From the moment you step into the themed areas in the Land that head to Soarin'. You are immersed in Sights and Sounds of Flight. You're in an Airport...and you're preparing for your flight. At an Air Show there would be one dude gathering 6 bucks from you and up you go...how exciting...at Disney it all starts at the queue. and then as you head into the Main Theatre...the emphasis is on the flight..and not the ride experience...This particular attraction aims to simulate a hang glider ride...not a Deep Space mission in Armegeddon...To have your feet dangling and experience that soft gentle motion...that is what you would feel if your were up there....Now granted I must say that there aren't too many airports that have gates for Hang-gliders...but its the whole idea..its about fun....its sure is a hell of a lot better than no preshow or queuing at all....I am just saying that the ride experience is only HALF of a Disney attraction experience...

So I say to all of you who have not ridden either Soarin over California or Soarin' as of yet...If you are looking for a ride that will "blow away MIssion: Space" and has crazy motion and makes your head spin....You will not get that on these attractions....and you might be tempted to say this ride "sucks"...

However, if you're looking for an opportunity to hang-glide over the Orange Groves of California, and feel the wind in your hair as you do it...then get ready for a Disney Attraction that delivers on EVERY level.

PS For those of you who are wondering...The Flying portion of this attraction is IDENTICAL to Disney's California Adventure. At least for now for the Celebration :)

I agree completely. Another really good example would be Space Ship Earth. EPCOT was never intended as a place for thrill rides and doesn't need to be. A quality experience can be an "E" level without scaring or making you sick in the process.

Kronk, Puddy, Joe Swanson from the Family Guy, The Tick (live action), Agent Tee from Men in Black 2, Johnny Johnson from NewRadio and many other roles. Who we talking about?

The incredibly talented Patrick Warburton. If this guy's deadpan delivery doesn't get a laugh from you, you must not have a sense of humor.

But having him do Soarin's pre-show narration? That is kinda...odd. Would take me right out of it too.

Still, can't wait to ride. Went on it twice at DCA and loved it.

Patrick does the preshow there also. I'm guessing it took you out of the mood too? Just curious.
