Soarin' construction update

Themeing, no matter how well done, does not hold up at a distance. With a theme park, there is no way to completely conceal a structure from all possible angles.

Example: Soarin' at DCA from the Sun Wheel

I find it to not be a huge deal.

The Soarin building is nicely painted. However, What is wrong with Space Mountain in that shot? Were they in the process of repainting it?? Or was it just strange lighting?

Could it be....maybe they WANT you to see it? Perhaps drawing you to the other side of the park so you can experience the attraction?

Uh, considering that most of the people enter in by Future World and would have long since past the entrance already, and are hardly likely to say "Oh, hey - what is that building over there? Let's go see!" when they are on the complete other corner of the park, I would venture to guess that that was not their first intention.

Like I said before, it's not that the building is even visible, it's that it sits smack dab behind the Hotel du Frontenac building, and completely ruins the forced perspective of it. If it was a little off center or something, then it would be so problematic. Epcot, at least at one point, was noteable because it actually tried to do a good job of architecture. The Soarin Building just sticks out like a sore thumb because it is not in scale, and it is a simple shed structure. I am amused that people are so upset over people commenting on this - as though people are saying some woark of art is ugly. So people think it sticks out badly? What is wrong with trying to make it fit in better? Disney didn't happen because someone said "oh well, well make do". It came about because Walt wanted to improve things!

Have you been there yet or are you just trying to look at it from the view of the picture? And by the way, the way epcot is situated, most people enter the park and go to their left...because...wait for it...that is where the 2 main attractions are. From there people usually head to the world showcase via Mexico...Its just another way of bringing more people to that side of the park.

That was it's color from 1998 until 2003. Part of the Tomorrowland 98 (Discoveryland Lite) makeover.

My point with the photo was that from certain angles, some structures will intrude on others. (Like Soarin and Main St. and Space Mountain and Orbitron and Grizzly Rapids....)

Nothing can be done about it. Soarin looming over Canada from certain angles is no big deal.

It would be just fabulous if it looked great from every angle. I think the more important thing is that EPCOT IS GETTING TWO MAJOR RIDES IN TWO YEARS.:sohappy: :sohappy:

When is the last time that happened?

Don't forget, the Space Mountain in Disneyland has been closed for a while (untill 2005) for updates and ect. I hope they do something more though, than paint the side of the building. Maybe they'll put up a bigger mountain? Man... do I sound repeative on this board or what?

I am confused. Why is there a soarin construction wall in the Land? Are they connected?? Where is the entrance going to be?

Last I heard, the Green Thumb Emporium (Originally "Brocolli & Co." for all you buffs) will serve as the entrance. The Kitchen Kabaret/Food Rocks Theatre will serve as the exit/gift shop.

That's last I heard. :)

I don't like that idea at all. The land is already a madhouse at lunchtime. Why do they want to send more people through there? Ugh!

Le doy solamente un tiempo duro. Usted tiene muchas ideas buenas, y sus puntos son válidos e interesantes.

Laura, this is what is happening inside the land right now.

I had heard also that the food court may go. Since Epcot does have a few empty restaurant areas, I think this could happen.

I would like to see the food court area filled in with some "The Land" themed kiosks and small attractions.

Pues, Speck, no hablé de Ud. :animwink:

As for Food Court, I don't want to see too much of it lost. Nor do I want to see the spirit gone. Let's keep this like the Body Wars set up - the big ride stays to itself and no one gets hoit. ;)
