Soarin: A Gift from Disneyland? I don't see it

What on earth are you talking about?!?!?!?

"while Californians love it, there is still a more hushed feeling of "I can see this stuff anyway"

No average Californian can see all that stuff--certainly not from the air, and not within 4 minutes.

"It will give everyone a good idea of why Walt chose California to be the home to his first park."

Again... WHAT?!?!? Walt didn't "chose" California for the park. Walt went to California to break into the "Hollywood" scene and produce animation. He originally was going to build Disneyland on a small chunk of land across the street from the studio, but opted for something bigger. Anaheim was the cheapest and soon-to-be most interstate-friendly area that was CLOSEST to the studio.

I'm sorry Mr. Walt Disney. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? There is no need to break out into loud "WHAT'S" over someones opinion that seems pretty valid and has been shared by tons of people. Yes, it is true that Californians can't see all that stuff in 4 minutes but the chances of a Californian seeing those landmarks at some point in their life, are certainly greater than a Floridian.

Perhaps they might change the film to something like 'Soarin over America' or something like that where its just flying over some of the greatest things america has too offer... Like Purple Mountains Magesties, Amber waves of plains... that sorta thing along with beaches and landmarks and all that.

Of course personally i'd like to see the Matterhorn come to WDW but that just aint happenin.

Uh...why don't Californians like Disney's California Adventure?
A. because they think they can see all that stuff anyway
B. because they don't like how Disney chose to depict their culture

Why do you think Disney is moving away from the California theme entirely with attractions like "a bug's land" and the Tower of Terror? And YES, Walt chose a VERY rural site in the small town of Anaheim, CA, a good hour's drive from Hollywood, for the beauty of the area. You can drive less than an hour in one direction to go to the beach and less than an hour in the other go go skiing in the mountains. It's a BEAUTIFUL location. Obviously, you have never BEEN there, or you would understand. When you look out from your hotel to see Matterhorn Bobsleds in front of snow-capped mountains, you know Walt picked this location specifically. Walt picked EVERYTHING specifically, it was his park, he wanted it perfect. He did the same thing when looking for a site for Disney World--found an area of land he really liked in central Florida due to Bay Lake.

How about an attraction where the queue shows the history and future of flight, while the ride visits all of the nations in World Showcase. We would finally have an attraction linking Future World to World Showcase.

Perhaps it it were Soarin over The World, where you fly by the Eiffel Tower and like over the great wall of china, etc. However mixing that with a history of flight doesnt seem like what my collueges would refer to as a tightly focused idea.

I'd pick one or the other, either focusing on a ride on the evolution of flight wherein the rider would be starting, running along the dues of Kitty Hawk trying to launch that first plane all the way to todays nible jet fighters ... OR.... just soaing all over the world and seeing what else there is to offer. IMHO.... I dont see how you can make a highly sucessful ride by mixing the two. I like the concept of mixing FW & WS (although by then will there be a FW?) but i dont like the concept of mixing two drastically seperate ideas like that.

And now... A Thread drift.....

Somehow i that reminds me of when i got to go out to dulles back in 6th grade and check out the Space Shuttle Enterprise that they used for atmospheric testing. I cant wait for the new annex to open up with the enola gay and the sr71 in it. Should be pretty neat. Now thas history.

As this attraction may well likely associate itself with the Land, I would enjoy views of rainforests, plantations, and natural environments that will/are being used for farming.

I can PRAY that they do not show landmarks...or even "Orlando" - it limits the idea of the Land's promise, if not deviating it.

If they keep it separate from the Land, I think this will be the weakest addition to EPCOT of all time. It has no "meaning" - i.e. communication (SE), energy (UoE), medicine and health (WOL), the next frontiers (Horizons, Space), motion (WOM, Test Track), creativity and imagination (JII), harvesting/nutrition/the land (Land), the oceans (Living Seas). Soarin' over wouldn't directly deal with "flight," but would fit in as part of looking at the Land. Otherwise, I will be extremely upset by the disorganization and randomness it would potentially bring.

Let's think of it this way: Soarin' is a travel agency, so in their lobby (queue), they can showcase the history of flight and have a permanently repeating video showing the flight through the years. Then you enter the "office" and meet your agent, who tells you that due to advances in flight, since you are now in the year 2040, you can now fly around the world in a matter of minutes--then they show you all of those sites, climaxing with a view of what Disney feels Disney World will look like in 2040.

Whatever they do, I really hope they do an aerial shot of the WDW resort. Most people don't really have an understanding of how big it is actually, it would look breathtaking.

I was impressed standing atop Summit Plummet recently, being able to see Coronado Springs, Animal Kingdom and MGM, amist all the trees, etc. I vowed to bring a camera up there with me next time :)

From what Ive heard in the past, I was under the impression that it would be the soaring ride, with a flight/sky theme. Enviromental elements, landmarks in Flight, etc....

I am 99% sure that this new attraction in Epcot "Soarin" will take the place of the Food Rocks show. (I'm a member of another Disney message board too- sorry!) I know for a fact that they aren't going to make a new film for it YET- the name of the attraction will just be Soarin' instead of Soarin' over California, so that in a few years when they have the budget, they can make a new film for it without all the confusion. This with Mission Space (which I rode last month!) is going to make Epcot A LOT more popular. :sohappy:

This is not based on any facts I know at this point, but a source of mine sent me a "what if" e-mail. Maybe it's a hint.

"What if Soarin is part of an entirely new pavillion dealing with flight. What if it's not related to the Land? Ever thought about that?"

Now this source is not a Disney employee, so take it at face value.
They have chimed in with reliable tidbits before, so who knows.
