A story I will always remember: during the Year of a Million Dreams, my family was walking through New Orleans Square when a CM pulled us into The Court of Angels and Mickey and Pluto were there in Mardi Gras costumes.

One time, I was in a shop at DHS and a CM asked the people at the register what the first Mickey cartoon ever made was. The two people were relatively young so they just shrugged until an older man behind them spoke up and said “Steamboat Willie”. The CM told him he was correct and shortly after I, being who I am, spoke up and said that it was actually “Plane Crazy”. The CM said that no one has ever said “Plane Crazy” and she always just congratulates those who say “Steamboat Willie”. I ended up getting a pin and a certificate all while the older man watched. I felt a little bad but I thought “Hey, I’ve earned this” and it’s a little piece of Disney Magic I’ll never forget.

On our last trip in October we flew in since it was only a 4-5 day trip. Arrived in the evening around 730-8 since I had to work that day. ME is always a crap shoot with timing but when we went to check in got some news that we were in for a treat. Turns out a Minnie Van was there with no paid return trips planned so we got lucky and got a free ride to the resort. She was not the fastest driver, but was awesome to get to relax and leave right away getting us to the resort at a decent hour. She even helped us at check in as we had groceries delivered and we picked them up and she drove us as close as she could to our room. Even carried a bag or two of groceries to help us

You guys on the East Coast are lucky. Disneyland is not opening for a long time. Maybe September the earliest. California’s schools may not even open fully for the new school year. This pandemic has created so much mess and it’s not helping anyone at all. I just want everything to go back to normal

Remains to be seen how lucky. Seeing some pics from H2O opening today was not encouraging and then the owner of FunSpot is a piece of work. Hopefully Uni and at some point WDW do enough to help a little, though not sure how enjoyable a park experience it will be with all sorts of restrictions

Wait, what's up with the owner of Fun Spot?

It's happened on occasion but it's when everything lines up. Like say you have a FP for Splash Mountain at 850PM, the park fireworks go off at 9PM, and you're like me and don't enjoy waiting in line for transportation.

You get on the ride, see the fireworks from the ride, and then cut through Adventureland and through the Main Street shops to catch the first bus before the huge crowds let out. There's just a sense of satisfaction in a way that somehow it all worked out against the odds

Very true. I really don't want to wear a mask during my visits as I'm almost positive its gonna be super uncomfortable. But, we have to do things to keep us safe. I just hope some of the new protocols these parks are implementing are actually reasonable and helpful to the situation instead of some big mess.

Character interactions are always interesting. You really see how dedicated those character actors are in staying in-character for any guest and you never really know what to expect. I remember Mary Poppins was quite stern when I asked for her signature for our autograph book without saying "please". She had me ask the same question again but this time with "please" at the end, and only then she signed the book and posed for a picture. I felt slightly roasted (and I was 18 at the time!).

Ariel was also a surprise, since she knew where my family was from (the Philippines), and told that we had very nice beaches since she and Flounder at some point went to one. She and Flounder went for quite a long swim from Atlantica!

It just doesn't sound like a vacation to me - I get the societal pressure to be as safe as possible but on the flip side the parks to me are an escape from the real world not an extension of it with better scenery. I'm not even sure how settled the science is on face-masks really. Two months ago we were told not to wear them now all of a sudden they're mandatory. They have preventative measures in the short-term but long-term use requires change-outs and/or cleaning, otherwise you'd just keep putting particles to your face that it blocked from before.

I love character interactions! It's something I'm weirdly even more fond of as an adult. Mary Poppins is always a pleasure. Last time I ate at Toothsome's our Penelope was actually really familiar with the town where I'm from. Penelope Toothsome in general is a phenomenal original theme park character and I've never seen her performed in a half hearted way.

I've had a ton of great interactions with Maynard. I vividly remember Rod Miller calling me over to film him up close when he saw me filming him with a camcorder from a back corner. Just seeing that guy perform in general is a Disneyland memory I'll always hold on to. He is very much responsible for my love of Ragtime music.

I have a video of myself, @MANEATINGWREATH, and Monkey cheering our heads off as the lights for Small World Holiday came on as we were about to board.

Achieving drinking around the world solo. I definitely had some fun interactions with VERY patient castmembers as a I worked my way around haha. I specifically remember the lady running the sake bar inside the Japan gift store being particularly amused at my plight and helping me pick something I'd actually enjoy.

Exactly! I just want to have my regular life back and be free if that makes sense haha. I have been tired of being at home since after the first week of quarantine back in March. None of this is making sense and I don't see this madness stopping for at least another year.

If it makes you feel better, you get used to wearing a mask super quickly. I've been wearing one five days a week for the past month and a half, and I barely notice it anymore.

You can't go wrong with sake or sochu. Or, if you want something sweeter, plum wine is usually my go to, and I'm fairly certain that it's purchasable in EPCOT.

Yeah I totally get that feeling. A lot of change and confusion and here we are. I wear a mask on most days in the hospital, starting next month will be everyday, I'd prefer not to bring work into the parks but I dont see it going away for some time now that it's dug into culture.

To think that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway opened in March feels like another timeline

I think that as more and more "fun" masks exist and become common, that will help. As it stands, most people only have a few masks still. I know with me and my family most of our masks were either made by friends from church and look like old lady quilts or ones we made ourselves with a severe lack of talent from pillowcases. It feels so weird wearing these, it feels unusual and odd. But we have some more masks on the way in some plain colors. We ordered the Disney Parks masks that should be here in July. At that point, it will be just another piece of an outfit. One that hopefully people are only wearing once before washing.

As far as the parks go, this is too soon. Not even like crazy too soon, but too soon. Every step of the way with reopening Florida has been 3-5 weeks sooner than it should have been. We were just barely starting to improve and then everything opened. Now our curve has just completely plateaued. And that's even with the well documented huge amount of data being hidden in this state. 48 hour tests from May 1st are still not getting results, tests are being lost, people are being fired from government positions for not using misleading data.

We all want things to go back to normal, but opening things too soon will just make that take longer. And I don't think the short term benefit of a little slice of normal is worth that. IHME had Florida on track for being more or less back to normal mid-June. After things started reopening at the beginning of May instead of waiting until late May/Early June as was recommended and expected, it changed that to Late August at the earliest.

Any way you slice it though, things are on their way back to normal. Even if the time it will take is unclear. Some things are starting to improve, curves are starting to trend down for the most part. There's promising news on treatments and vaccines. Masks are being made more common place, fun, and comfortable. There's hope, but if we try to go back to normal too soon it will just delay things longer.

So, the first time I took my younger cousin to the parks, he wouldn't ride anything. He was about 10 years old, but had some bad experiences at a state fair when he was younger.

We got him to get in line for Great Movie Ride and he was on the fence about actually riding it. This was day 3 of a 6 day trip and would be his first "ride" there. A cast member in the line saw Thomas was nervous and started talking to him. Thomas asked him about this youtube video about GMR we had showed him before the trip.

The guy knew the video actually! He couldn't make fun of dumb guests too much with us, but definitely confirmed it was pretty accurate. He talked to thomas, he joked with him, this guy made Thomas feel safe about it and even recommended other rides. Then he jumped us ahead in line (Only like a 20 minute wait, not like we skipped crazy ahead) and got us on right away front row. And then he was our driver! Kept talking to and hanging out with Thomas the whole time other than when he was giving his spiel. Became Thomas's favorite ride and got him to start trying more rides. Changed the mood of the entire trip just from a simple special moment.
