Albuquerque, NM
A Breaking Bad Themed Area
View attachment 163550
Welcome to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Introducing an all new themed experience at Universal Orlando Resort’s first and flagship theme park Universal Studios Florida. Inspired by the mega-hit of the small screen, Breaking Bad, guests will be transported into a small suburb of Albuquerque and the blaring emptiness of the scorching New Mexico desert.
Coming in 2019 (along with the Nintendo Universe in 2020 and Universal’s third theme park in 2021) as a part of the resort’s biggest expansion yet, guests can experience an all new thrilling E-Ticket attraction, an interactive C-Ticket walkthrough that is not to be missed, as well as dining and shopping experiences.
Purpose:
As one of the most successful television programs of all time, Breaking Bad is a clear choice of IP for a Universal theme park. However, Universal Studios Florida is known for creating immersive environments of cities, towns and various settings and then adding proper IPs (sometimes one, sometimes multiple). For example, New York hosts The Mummy and Springfield U.S.A. hosts The Simpsons. And while London hosts just Harry Potter and is marketed as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley, the themed Harry Potter elements are hidden away to not intrude of the various cities and their designs at Universal Studios Florida.
Therefore, rather than creating “Breaking Bad: The Land” and plopping every single Breaking Bad environment into one hodge-podge land, Universal Creative has decided to pick a theme that would blend well with the rest of the park: suburban Albuquerque.
The main stretch of the land will be Alburquerque, complete with Walter White’s home, the police department and other less notable places seen in the series. The town seems almost too good to be true at first glance, similar to Walter White’s life in the beginning of the series. But, upon further inspection, we see the chaos within the town that Walter White’s actions have caused, as his face and story in the headlines been plastered upon every bulletin board and newspaper in every coffee shop and store.
It is only in the heat of the action in the midst of the land’s E-Ticket attraction that we dare venture out into the scorching desert, clearly conveying that the desert is a place that only those crazy enough to be there will venture into the blazing New Mexico sun. This can be seen as a parallel to Walter White’s life, as he lives a happy life in suburban Alburquerque, but as soon as he spirals out of control with his crystal meth business and his terminal lung cancer, he spends his time out in the desert more and more away from his family, his previous life and his sanity.
So, with this outlook on the series, guests will be looking at Walter White and his actions from the outside from the perspective of average suburban people. Universal Creative is taking a risk with this outlook, but believes it will pay off by giving fans of the show a stellar experience rich with details and easter eggs but also giving average theme park guests to enjoy the experiences without knowing a single piece of information about the show.
Location:
Albuquerque will be located on the large expansion plot in between Men in Black: Alien Attack, Springfield U.S.A and the Nintendo Universe (opening 2020).

Land Theming:
Alburquerque will be themed just like the suburban town we see in the show. While the land is themed as the perfect, white picket fence town, upon further inspection in the restaurants, shops, newspaper kiosks and police station, we see how the crazed Walter White and his actions have affected the town and its reputation.

Due to the relatively low height of the Albuquerque homes and facades (with the exception of the police station), tall trees behind these buildings will hide various things such as the Nintendo and Men in Black attraction show buildings.
Attractions:
Alburquerque will feature two attractions, one E-Ticket thrill ride and the other a C-Ticket interactive walk-through.
Breaking Bad: Desert Racer
Welcome to the headliner E-Ticket thrill ride of the all new Breaking Bad themed land, Alburquerque.
Statistics:
Attraction Category: E-Ticket
Ride Length: 5 Minutes
Universal Express: Yes
Capacity: High
Thrill Type: Roller Coaster and Dark Ride Hybrid
Facade/Queue Section 1:
Guests will begin their E-Ticket experience at Walter White’s home. The walkthrough-type first section of the queue gives Breaking Bad fans the ultimate dream of walking through Walter White’s house. Guests will walk through the foyer, living room and kitchen, before proceeding down a set of steps into the basement. This is where the first pre-show will take place.
NOTE: There are actually three basements each with a door out of view of the rest of the first section of the queue. As one loads people, one is in the middle of the pre-show and the other is unloading). Due to there being three rooms and only a short pre-show, this section of the queue will take tons of people very fast, leaving a relatively short line within the house. The high-capacity aspect of the attraction as well will allow for a short line as well.
NOTE: For handicapped guests or those in need of an elevator, a tucked away “dumbwaiter” will transport guests down to the basement.
Pre-show 1:
As guests enter the basement, in a similar fashion to the pre-show of Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts where a portion of the room is blocked off and is a screen, they see Walter White packing his things, played (of course) by the one and only Bryan Cranston.
“Oh!” he says in a surprised fashion, “I wasn’t expecting you until later.” He ceases packing his things to talk to the guests. “I really do appreciate you helping me move my stuff out to the desert. It’s dangerous, the police can’t find out about this, I’m deep in some things that I’m not going to disclose at the moment, I need to gain trust from you guys before I can tell you what’s up. And this is the start of that. Bt let’s just say they’re not… um… legal, OK?”
“But, that contract you signed makes me feel reassured you’re in this for the long haul. So, come on, let’s get out to the desert and start making some money”
Then, guests exit the basement through the bulkhead and into the starry sky.
Queue Section 2:
Still inside the show building (the pre-show rooms are under a berm ala Disneyland Haunted Mansion with trees that hides it), guests are now in the driveway (not the actual facade driveway). A set of switchbacks moves around the driveway and lawn. An animatronic Walter White can be seen packing his stuff into his car in the driveway. Then, the queue moves into the “road” (once again, not actually the public walking space outside of the queue) and moves down the short road in switchbacks and around a corner to the loading area.
It was important for Universal Creative to create a contained feel for the queue, to recreate the panicked feeling Walter White feels as he is first diagnosed with lung cancer and enters the crystal meth business.
Loading Area/Vehicles:
The loading area is still themed to the road in the show building at night.
The vehicles for the attraction are very similar to the vehicles for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, but are themed to a normal car that you’d find in the muggle world, versus a magical bank cart. In addition, each vehicle that moves through the attraction is a singular unit, without an addition (identical) vehicle attached behind it.
For reference, here are the Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts vehicles:

The Attraction Experience:
Scene 1 - About 20 seconds with a 10 second transition to the next scene:
When guests leave the road-themed loading area and turn a corner, they are on a different road in suburban Albuquerque. Walter White (in screen form) appears next to the guests on the left. He exclaims to hurry before the someone reports suspicious activity, and speeds off. However, the cars turn to see a man on the opposite side walk on his phone looking suspicious. Over the phone we hear “911, what is your emergency?” But, before the guests can hear the man’s answer, we speed off.
Scene 2 - About 30 seconds with a 15 second roller coaster transition to the next scene:
The guests are suddenly in the desert. They approach a strange (yet familiar) camper RV with a strange blue smoke coming through a vent in the roof.
View attachment 163557 As the vehicles pull up beside it, Walter White appears at the door. “Hey, so I guess now would be a good time to tell you what exactly we’re out here for. See, my business partner Jesse,” from in the RV we hear his exclaim a greeting, “and I… Well, I cook and he sells cryst-”. However, before he can finish, the vehicles whip around to reveal blue, red and white lights and sirens blazing in the distance. Guests hear Walter exclaim “Cops!” and slam the RV door closed. “Hang on Jesse, we gotta go.” With that, the vehicles speed off once again with the sound of sirens in the distance.
Scene 3 - About 45 seconds with a 2 second transition to the next scene:
The next scene is a condensed 360 degree room, similar to the one found in Skull Island: Reign of Kong and Fast and Furious: Supercharged. Guests are racing through the desert with RV to the right and slightly ahead of them. The blazing sirens continue to grow in sound and light, and we can hear an officer over his speaker “Please pull over, we have received a suspicious call that has led us here. Please pull over.” Guests see the RV make a hard right away from the vehicle, despite the fact that guests continue to move “forward”. We hear Walter White yell “Make a diversion! Make a diversion!” Then, guests are suddenly launched (ala Revenge of the Mummy) out of the room.

Scene 4 - About 20 seconds.
However, the launch is cut short, as the car’s “brakes” are activated just outside of the 360 room. The vehicle stops on a piece of track that has a unique effect. This piece has the ability to pivot up and down on a focal point, starting at a level plane and rotating 90 degrees so the car faces straight down, connecting to a vertical track piece. Around this vertical track piece is a dome shaped screen that creates an effect that the vehicle is about to tip over a cliff and into a river below. The track piece tilts up and down over the edges of the “cliff” before moving into a fully vertical position. The car is then released and goes beyond vertical (almost upside down) and into pitch darkness.
Scene 5 - About 1 minute and 30 seconds with a 10 second transition to the next scene.
The car then goes through a series of twists and turns (not upside down, however) in the darkness. The car then settles in the middle of a practical canyon set. As the vehicle enters a sense of momentary calmness, the police cars round a corner ahead of the guests. The vehicles turn left and right, almost as if they are looking for a place to go. Then, guests are launched backwards into a set of twists and turns in the dark desert.
Scene 6 - About 30 seconds with a 15 second transition into the unloading area.
As the vehicle hits the breaks, it turns around to see Walter White and Jesse standing outside of the RV. “Good job losing them. But, I’ve realized how dangerous this business is and I don’t want anyone else besides my closest partners getting mixed up in this. I really appreciate the help, but go back to your normal lives. I’ll appreciate what you did tonight until the day I die. See ya”. And with that, guests move into the loading area, a separate but identical room to the loading area, yet at dawn, just as the sun is rising.
Gift Shop
Guests enter into an Albuquerque store, full of both New Mexico and Breaking Bad merchandise.
Breaking Bad: Investigations Inspection
The supporting C-Ticket attraction in the all new Breaking Bad area will be Breaking Bad: Investigation Inspection, an exciting walk-through interactive experience at Albuquerque’s Police Department, where guests (with the aid of private detectives) try to piece together a story and timeline of the infamous Walter White.
View attachment 163558
Guests will move through different rooms of the police station, including several “Investigative Crime Scene Recreations” to help solve the mystery of the WANTED Man Walter White and what exactly he’s been up too.
Universal Creative decided to include this attraction as a counter to the E-Ticket experience, in which the protagonist is Walter White and we’re on White’s side. However, in Breaking Bad: Investigations Inspection, guests will swap sides and try to cake the case of Walter White.
Dining:
Dining in Albuquerque, NM will consist of small quick service locations, such as a coffee shop, the Dog House and other small locations. All of these locations will have hints of social chaos, as WANTED posters of Walter White will adorn the walls.

Hey everyone! I'd like to thank you for reading my Breaking Bad submission! I really did try and research this IP as much as I could, and school did through a wrench in my plans to turn in something even better and more elaborate, but I'm proud with how this turned out considering I knew next to nothing about this IP prior to this project. Thanks for reading!

I hope it's both, to be honest.Hey thanks for reviewing mine, I wasn't expecting that haha. I'd actually like to see BlueDragonFive do more reviews for these. For someone brand new to all of this, he picks up the details very well and is always a strong speaker.
Also just a question about the final project, is the jury voting for who had the better final project, or based on the overall game? I'm only asking because those could lead to two different outcomes

That's exactly how I am voting. I'm going to look at both. The only way the project would be the sole contribution to the vote would be if the other person just doesn't submit. In my experience as a host (and since I'm on the jury as well) of SYWTBAI, I first look at the quality of the contestant's project, then, if I'm having a really difficult time deciding which project is better, I look into the contestant's gameplay. If a finalist laid low the entire season only to make it to the very end and turnout a fantastic project, I'm not going to vote for them. If a finalist was a constantly working force the entire season, earned their spot in the finals, and turned in a not-as-good project, they will have my vote. I hope that makes sense.
I'm guessing for this season, Tiki wants us to look at both the project and the gameplay aspect. It's only fair. This season was very strategy-oriented, so there ya have it.
This may be late to respond but still:Project Four: Universe of Gravity
You must fit Steven Universe into (appropriately enough ) a Universal park.
