So why exactly did Disney ruin Journey Into Imagination?

Might have already been said, but getting rid of the Dreamfinder and the adventure to the Dream Port with his magical ship and sidekick Figment.

Figment is now used as the main character and we just totally lost the Dreamfinder.

As I am typing this, my mom and I are standing in line for journey and got into the discussion about the original. We're just stunned Disney would take a classic and turn it into something so crappy. I did a google search but couldn't find anything about why they changed it, just that they did change it. Has Disney ever said why?

Because Kodak (remember them, Another company too big to fail...) wanted an update for the new millenium. TRANSLATION: Kodak suits wanted to create a 'Legacy' for themselves.

I think bringing Dreamfinder back for D23 a few years ago was a nice surprise, but it hurt. I knew they were doing the Figment comics, (which are amazing) but it gave me a false hope that he might return to the attraction, or to the parks. As a kid all I wanted was to go and meet the man and small dragon roaming around Epcot. I think that making him the face of the park would be better than the Duffy thing they tried to do. I also always wondered why they never added Figment as the dragon in Doc McStuffins. Personally, I think an animated TV show or movie would be really fun and creative for Disney and help to re-establish his presence.

This Halloween my BF and I are dressing as Figment and Dreamfinder for MNSSHP. That tiny purple dragon will live on, even if he's just nostalgia bait at this point.

I took my kids (at the time 8 and twin s) for the first time about six years ago and decided it must just be my rose colored glasses and the kids will love the new version.

The train scared the twins and then it broke down with us stuck for 20 minutes in front of the smell screens that kept spraying skunk scent at us and we had to be walked out. We did not go back that trip. Now its a ride done in irony...We have to ride it in the same way you watch a really bad movie. Its so bad its fun to make your own commentary.

Oddly, I will be sad when this ride goes away, just because of the family survival day we experienced.
Oh my god, I would LOVE to be stuck and walked off at that part. I've loved that scene ever since I was a little kid, and still do now (The only thing that happened last time I was on it during that part was a little girl in a Minnie costume getting so scared by it that she spit out the lollipop she was eating!)
They could make the JII original story with Dreamfinder into a night time parade with led lights, and call it Journey to the Dream Port :cautious:
That sounds like a nice idea!

To bad you missed out on the original.

What if I say it was even better when Ron Schneider re recorded some missing Dreamfinder dialogue for me for my forthcoming video?

I remember the media and the disappointment from the new version, but I hoped it was just me being nostalgic and not wanting to ruin something for my kids. The current version isn't horrible, its just an insanely big step down from the original. Its a ride that went from incredible to average, which is the hard part. It makes it seem even worse than it is.

Same reason they destroyed Pirates, Hall of Presidents....etc probably. They think everything needs updating at some point.

I don't agree, but my view is biased since there is a lot of nostalgia involved for me.

Looks like the fate of Figment is getting a little...."Tense"...Apparently, Figment was captured by The Collector inside GOTG:MB queue area along with the Matterhorn Yeti....While not too visible you can tell that it is Figment inside a Purple Pigment Cloud...

It all starts with the best of intentions ("Pirates is my favorite ride. I love it. I can make it better ..."). The problem is they think they can make it better, but most people can't. If you look at the changes that have been made to most long-time attractions at the Disney theme parks, the success rate is way less than 50%. What happened to Future World is just the most obvious example (because they've more or less destroyed the entire land over 25 years).
