So what can you have in your resort room appliance wise??

Just trying to clarify something here....what exactly are you allowed (appliance wise) to bring from home and use in your resort room during your stay? We usually stay in Pop Century and always bring a cooler to keep our juice and milk and that cold, and the last time we brought a toaster for making toast or bagels in the mornings. So we were thinking of bringing a dorm-room sized fridge down with us next year and then my wife thought, why not a small sized microwave too. I know I have read of people bringing their own fridges into their rooms, but do they allow other smaller appliances as well (more specifically, microwaves)?

And no...we aren't bringing the stove, dishwasher, and everything but the kitchen sink for all you wisenheimers out there - haha! Just seems like it!:ROFLOL:

I do not think they would allow you to bring a microwave..or even a toaster for that matter.

I know they have a microwave and a toaster in the food court for guests use.

That is a lot to carry with you on a vacation also in my opinion.

You can also request a small fridge at POP.

I doubt that you cna have a microwave in your room. As far as refrigerators go, we have a cooler that plugs into the cigarette lighter for the car, or a regular electrical outlet at home. Works well for road trips, no ice necessary, and it was far cheaper than a dorm-size refrigerator.

Edit:

Our cooler is similar to this, except that it can also keep things warm.

Last summer while staying at the YC & Poly we brought a toaster and small Microwave. We didn't ask for permisson, but nobody said anything when we brought it in. Bell services loaded it onto our luggage cart and brought it up to the room, the bell services manager/supv. helped load the cart from our van. We barely used the micro though and won't bring it along again, maybe just the toaster next time.

Coffee makers and refrigerators are already available in the rooms. Microwaves in the food courts. In room microwaves draw a lot more power than the average appliance and can blow a breaker in the hotel line or overly heat the local wires. Toasters and toaster ovens are a general fire hazard for any number of reasons like leaving them on...having other flammable items nearby, having buildup in the units.

I just can't see the real convenience.

I think you can get a fridge for $10.00 a day at a value resort, which, IMO isn't much. The toaster and microwave make me a bit nervous! Why not stay someplace that has those kinds of appliances in the rooms already? Again, just my opinion!
The only things I lug down to WDW with me in the appliance department is my super powered hairdryer (the dryers in the rooms don't cut it!) and flat iron.

I understand the desire to bring a microwave, as it is a convenience that some folks use extensively. I don't drink coffee myself, but I can appreciate that other people may see coffee makers as a necessity. Everyone has their own list of what's important to them, and that's fine.

I actually wrote Disney about bringing a microwave into our room at POR, and they said it was prohibited. Unless the room already comes with a microwave, you are out of luck.

There are microwaves and toasters in every resort food court. While no one may say anything, toasters and microwaves are a fire hazard.

Really, for everyone's safety, just bring stuff you can eat cold--crackers, granola, cereal. Leave the bagels and Pop Tarts at home, unless you like them cold.

And, BTW, if you're on the dining plan, you will be sooooo stuffed that you won't even think about any extra food.

:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:That is toooooo funny:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

In all the years I have been going I have not seen that. :ROFLOL: I have seen people bring thier own Micros and right on this site people do bring thier own Fridge. Depending on the length of your stay it is cheaper to buy and bring your own.

We took a toaster back when our son was small and he had a very limited variety of foods he liked. At that time, I realized that we saved about $20 each morning eating in the room. I didn't honestly think of it being a fire hazard. I know now that the Deluxe resorts give you a frig. for free but you must still have to pay for one in the Moderate and Values. You could always just eat cereal and use a cooler like others have suggested. I no longer have to worry since my son is now 14 and will eat just about anything that doesn't eat him first.

Thanks for all the quick responses guys/girls! We have always brought a toaster, and I honestly never even thought of it being a fire hazard. We obviously unplug it after we are done with it (which is what I thought we would do with the microwave). The fridge idea actually came from these forums. I was reading a bunch of threads last year some time about people bringing their own little fridges and thought that it would be a good idea since we like our cereal in the morning and that. We always used a cooler before and really had no problem doing that, just thought the fridge sounded more convenient.

Thanks for bringing this up! I think it was good for everyone to see the different perspectives. I can remember in college you weren't allowed these your dorm room either for the same reason. All in all, I don't think it's worth enjoyment and safety just so one can trim a few dollars off their vacation budget.

Actually, all the moderate rooms come with a refrigerator now. You do have to pay if you want a refrigerator in a value room tho.

isnt your room going to be a little crowded?
Fridge, toaster, microwave.. plus luggage, kids, bags, everything?

I suggest you request a fridge and use the microwave and toaster in the food court if you really need it. I think also traveling wise it wouldnt be so stressful just using whats there.

So what's the difference between a 1000W blow dryer and/or flat iron/ curling iron etc. and a 1000W microwave?

If you use the outlet in the bathroom/sitting area, it is designed for hairdryers. The average wall outlet may or may not be on a GFI circuit. Now, if you can plug the microwave into the GFI outlet, without having it on the floor, there is no difference.

Kitchens also have GFI circuits (if they are new or have been updated) which is why these appliances are not usually a problem.

The average bedroom is NOT properly wired.

What about my post changed your mind...?
I never said anything about wattage. I feel it's a safety threat to use a microwave or a toaster in your room as food can burn, just my opinion. My hairdryer is 1875w and has an ionic mode so it doesn't get overheated. My flat iron has an automatic shut off. I have never had any trouble with any of the outlets in the bathroom area as it is outfitted properly.
Another difference between my hairdryer and flat iron and a microwave and toaster is I don't plan to cook anything with my hairdryer and I don't think I'll be whipping up any grilled cheese sandwiches with my flat iron while vacationing in WDW. :lookaroun

This is a good thought in planning and theory. I think at some point we get excited about planning our trips once the plans are laid out we still obsess over planning out of pure excitement. We tend to go a little overboard. I know I do! There is a huge convenience factor in your idea. This an odd question...where exactly do plan to put these things once you get there? Even on vacation I like an organization. Plus how do you clean your utensils in the sink between the fam brushing their teeth. I cannot imagine put appliance near the bathroom and then eating the food from them. Think about the hair spray in the air. yew. Would like salt or little aussie spary on that mac and cheese?! But that's me and I don't think I'll be able to afford staying there. You're going on vacation not off to college. Now for the hypocrit part...I am debating taking an electric skillet, but I staying in a studio at OKW in January. But I also have the mini-kitchen. Which is equipped with wet bar, frig, and microwave. I would base my decision on the type of room you are staying at and the resort. How far of walk will have to the food court? A place like POFQ why bother bc you are so close, but on the other hand CBR or POR is another story.
