I am having such a huge problem with pop ups and it's making me so GRRR! (grrr is really mad in meg language btw) I use aol and they have their own pop up controls which work great but, all of my pop ups open with Explorer. Does anyone know of a really good pop up control program that I could download for free (I know I'm cheap...I'm a college student) Thanks everyone!

Use Mozilla Firefox

It doesn't have nearly as many of the security problems as IE does, and it comes standard with a lot of things that IE has to have as an addon (tabbed browsing, popup blocker, themes, etc)

http://ftp.eu.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.9.3/FirefoxSetup-0.9.3.exe

Do yourself a favor. Scrap IE and switch over to FireFox. It's free, it's stable, it's powerful, it's secure....
AGREED!!!! Firefox is so much better..i havnt had a SINGLE (unwanted) popup since ive started using it..and spyware? non existant :)

Pop up stopper http://www.panicware.com/product_downloads.html go for the free basic version. It's not a toolbar, so it does not take up screen space and is easily disabled when you need it to be by double clicking its icon on the taskbar.

Also, if you do not have a spyware detector installed (spyware can throw up even more unwanted pop ups) then install and run Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Let us know how you get on.
Just what the doctor ordered for me! Thanks for the help and link.

I too am in the FireFox camp. No pop-ups, and you don't get the tons and tons of spyware that you just can't avoid by using IE. I don't have to run AdAware (spyware detection software) near as much anymore because I just don't get spyware, all thanks to FireFox.

Oh and a quick note abour FireFox. After you install it you'll need to install the plugins for Flash and Java, and then you should be all set. All you have to do is go to a site you know uses flash, and it won't load, but when you click it will install the plugin. You should be able to do the same thing for java too. Do those two things and then you'll be all set with anything you encounter on the internet.

I will fourth the Firefox. It is the ultimate browser and i love it. Great pop-up blocker and a built in google toolbar. Also it is full of plug-ins for full customization(sp? lol).

Not to start any debates and I know it doesn't do most of you any good, but I use Apple's Safari on my Mac G5 at home as a web browser, and have zero problems with pop-ups. I wish I could say the same with IE, which I have to use on my job provided PC at work. God, they are annoying!

Amen to that! I love using Safari on my iBook G4. For those of you Windows users out there, I'd recommend Firefox over anything else. IE is so .. so .. yucky!
