So-called Disney experts

Sorry, I know this has been talked about before, but I just have to say it!

Why do people call themselves Disney experts when they clearly are not?

I saw this lady today at work who claims to be an expert on WDW. After talking to her I found out that she has never heard of MVMCP, Expedition Everest, her favorite ride is "philharmonic", and her husband told me she is such an expert she even knows of a secret back entrance into Epcot. Hmm....since when is the International Gateway a secret?

I would never claim to be an expert in something unless I really truly was, and I am by no means a WDW expert. I think she is just not quite right in the head. :brick:

Anybody else encountered this?

in their world they are experts. Maybe she happens to be THE expert among a group of friends, maybe they did not mean a disney expert out of everyone?

Does it really matter? why can't people here have more tolerance for others. This is just no big deal. You go to WDW for fun. I feel good when anyone says they are expert about WDW cause it means that at least they like WDW a lot. That's a good reason to feel good for me.

There's plenty of those "experts" who post on this very board. Some of them are pretty comical. My favorite is Thrawn, always good for a laugh. But we’ll just have to learn to deal with them because they ain't going away any time soon, but I hear what you’re saying. I just laugh and enjoy the show when they speak, or post. I’m no Disney expert by any means but there are people who post here who I'd consider experts as the majority of posters are here are very knowledgeable folks.

It's a little pet peeve of mine when people claim to know a lot about anything for that matter, but don't. I know lots and lots about Walt Disney World, but I'm definately not an "Expert". I'd say more of an aficionado.

DISNEY FREAK!!!:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

I love Disney:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

I have to agree, I know I'm not an expert, but I am a Disney freak, so I do know quite a bit and am able to help people, but I only help people on things that I know about. I am not like some members on this site who try to help out for every little thing who either don't know what they are talking about or are just posting to get their post counts up. :hammer:

Some of the Adult Ed. Classes that they hold in the high schools at night around here have a class on surviving Disney. I'm dying to go and just sit in the back and shake my head going "Nope... I don't think so... try again...." I know alot, but even I don't know as much as others do... that's why I love to hit boards like this and see what I can find out (and believe me...I've found out plenty!!!)

I always considered myself an expert until I got online and realize I know comparitavely nothing. :o

And my parent's didn't know about the International Gateway and they thought I was amazing when we walked through it from the Beach Club.

But among my friends and the people I work with I'm definitely considered "the expert" because I know way more then them.

Expert is completely relative.

I'd say I'm a disney freak, but I don't honestly know if I'm an expert. I hope that I would be, but I'm content with where I am, and besides, I can always learn more.:D

I'm the Disney expert among my friends, family, and family friends and co-workers. Then again, I work there, so I may be more knowledgable than other people that live around me.

About being the expert in my family.... I KNOW that I have a much better time than they EVER will!!!! I try to give them tips and they just brush me off... They'd be the ones who would say that they could do Disney in a day and see it all... (that was my father....)

One time my sister and her family went and I sent a typed list for the kids- odds and ends that I had learned... I'm sure my sister was thrilled for 5 days to have heard the words "But Aunt Shell said..."

At least I talked them into staying on site...

Amen when i go on vacation the last thing i think about is being an expert on anything. How long would disney be there if only the experts came.I collect classic cars when we are at shows you hear all kind of in correct facts.Heck at the last one i meet a guy who had a GTO with a 289 in it lol.IMHO the appeal of disney for many of us is to see what we have not seen and learn what we did not know.Car shows would be no fun at all if everybody knew about my cars what i did what would be the point. And yes i am a self proclaimed disney idiot when you get lost going from MGM to POR you have earned that title.lmao

I am an export in many things in the group of my friends. Its just a title people will give you. You might not know as much as people on this board, but most people don't partake in idle typechat on the internet.
