Snow White to Close Thursday, May 31

I was hoping they would keep it open until the new ride opens. Pretty stupid if you ask me. Fantasyland is enough of crowded mess right now as it is. So let's take another ride out of the mix.

Falls prey to the Meet and Greet?
More like falls prey to old technology and substandard effects. It's being upgraded to a bigger and better ride. A meet & greet got moved to its old spot. This is not an additional meet & greet, its a move. Remember it's a theme park not a museum.

Yes, I get that Snow White is getting a new ride. But sacrificing a ride space for a meet and greet is dumb, especially when there's a meet and greet space already in the FLE in the Circus. Or space where the Skyway station was.

I didn't want the ride to stay as is. But an new dark ride based on a different franchise is preferable to yet another meet and greet only area.

And the "museum" quote is so tiresome.:hurl:

Rather stupid, not waiting for the Mine Train to open to close SWSA. This means over a year without a Snow White ride..

The article also says that parts of Storybook Circus will be opening by "late March". I wonder if this means that the March 12 date is going to get pushed back again?

While I do not care for meet n greets, their popularity among the average Disney guest is undeniable. Park management hates the things because the have such a high operating cost coupled with pathetic guest per hour numbers. This results in TDO wanting to spend as little as possible on these things. The Snow White building provided a bunch of square footage at the most minimal cost with a quick turnaround time.

I still don't understand how meet n' greets have such a high operating cost. It's not as if on rides you don't have to have anyone there. Space Mountain is a perfect example.

I'm not denying that they're needed.

What I'm saying is that there's already a space for them in the Circus, and the Snow White ride building could be another ride.

I realize that's a plan that the current Disney would never do, but it's something I would expect from Disney.

And I know someone will throw out the "the rumor said this area could be another ride down the line", but come on. "Temporary" in Disney standards means it's going to last at least 2 decades.

Everything is proportional. Yes you need people to run Space Mountain, but ride operators also come at a lower cost than face characters. Also, Space Mountain gets a lot of people through per hour which makes the cost per guest far less than a meet and greet.

Hopefully it will mean that BTMRR will def reopen in time, surely they wouldn't want 2 major rides down at the same time.

Or maybe they would.......

I would have liked to see a clone of the Pinocchio dark ride at disneyland occupy that space instead of the meet and greet. It probably would have been an easy change considering all of the ride components are in place

Your average dark ride like SW, Pan, etc takes 2-4 people to run, the CMs running it are at the bottom of the pay scale, and the guests per hour numbers are fairly high. Meet n Greets can have around 3-5 CMs per character, some of which are at higher pay scales, and their guests per hour numbers are bad at best. The labor dollars per guest of a meet n greet can easily be 5-10 times that of a simple dark ride.

Then they should stop doing so many new ones. They're not needed. I don't care how popular they are, I never see as many people in line for them as I do for Peter Pan.

Like I have said many times, TDO hates the things. They would not be building them is there was not a demand for them.
