Snakes

I've seen snakes before around the grounds of Riverside -- generally, though, Port Orleans is filled with lizards - I have even found them in my room on occasion - they are small and sometimes show up in the bathroom - I just plop a cup over them and bring them outside. Another interesting creature note - Disneyland Paris has had trouble with BATS in their Thunder Mountain attraction - the ride loads on land, then goes through a dark tunnel under the water of the lagoon in frontiertown to and island where the ride takes place, then comes back through a tunnel to the mainland at the end. The tunnels are bat infested and they have spent a lot of money keeping them clean.

I've seen a big black one on the outside of Team Disney (I've heard the inside is CRAWLING with the white, suited kind though... BA-BUM!).

I've also seen one at the Wide World of Sports.

oh i forgot, last december we saw a 6 foot black rat snake over by Blizzard Beach and winterwonderland mini-golf... it was about 10 feet off the main path though - and nothing to worry about as they are not dangerous... :)

This thread is going to scare this lady off forever though... there are so few snakes in WDW you'll likely never see one - and even if you do, you have a whole lot less to worry about than you think! :) Just enjoy your trip and try not to dig in the bushes too much! :D

I saw a big black snake in front of AK...no worries, though, it was just as eager to get as far away from humans as the cast members were to escort it away from humans.

DD and I sat down on a bench coming out of The Haunted Mansion last June. She raised her arm to rest in on the back of the bench, looked down and saw a long snake that had crawed off the retaining wall onto the bench back. We both jumped up quickly. The CM we told did not seem too surprised.

I know, huh? Let's talk about something else...

Hey OP, you know what you WILL see a lot of at WDW???

Bunnies and Ducks. :) I have sooo many pictures of Bunnies and Ducks. Last week at AKL, I was at one of the viewing areas and there were some giraffes in the background and some cool impala things and all of a sudden the guide says, "look, there's a bunny!" and I was like "MUST GET CAMERA LOOK AT THE CUTE BUNNY!!!!"

and so did everyone else, so don't laugh at me.

And who doesn't have 40 million pictures of ducks from their WDW trips? You know you do.

Saw one at BB a couple of years ago, however two castmembers came over and took it away. Tho everyone around scurried away, including me.

The only one I've seen was on the walkway at the Poly, and he was dead. :( Looked like a lawnmower or something had gotten to him, but I can't believe he hadn't been cleaned up yet! (It was late at night... I was running back and forth doing laundry)

I don't think you'd have to worry too much about 'wild' snakes running loose at WDW as long as you stay to marked paths and places where the general public is allowed to be.

This is completely untrue. This suggests that if you run into a snake while on WDW property, that you must be somewhere you're not supposed to be. I've seen wild snakes all over the place at WDW... particularly in the water parks and in Fort Wilderness. It's always, ALWAYS been when I've been walking along one of the marked paths or in some other location that is intended for guests.

Having said that, you're correct when you say they're harmless.

I have been to WDW about thrity times in the past two years, and I have never seen a snake (aside from the plastic kind, and the few in captivity).

Wow, you must only go in the winter or something.

Or you stay mostly indoors.

Or you never look down when you're walking.

We've seen snakes at all 4 parks...
Actually, that is the right answer. WDW is crawling with all kinds of snakes including a high population of Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes. Where ever you see lizards, there will also be snakes. Central Florida is prime habitat for snakes.

Copperheads are also very prolific in the WDW area. Coral snakes ("red next to yellow will kill a fellow") are all over the place as well. WDW is "home" to many types of snakes including lots of Florida cottonmouth. However, it's unlikely that you'll see any.

Snakes have many ways to conceal themselves from view. Even trained herpetologists have difficulty locating snakes in the wilds of WDW. However, if you know where to look, there is a bounty of snakes to be seen at WDW within a short distance from any guest area.

Personally, now that Roy Disney is out of the picture, I've had my fill of snakes at Disney.

ohh more more please how about some gator stories at WDW or huge spider stories!!

My best gator encounter (infinitely better than any Yeti encounter, for sure) was this one time we were kayaking in the canals at Ft Wilderness. I looked over and saw a big gator lounging on the edge of the water and I wanted to see how close I could get to it. So I started paddling toward it with the intention of prodding it with my oar. The ripple from the water got to the gator and that was enough to spook it. But instead of running away into the trees, the gator spun around and came toward me, going under the water and underneath my kayak. That was kind of creepy for a while because I could no longer see it and I had no idea where it was lurking. My friend had, by this time, paddled away so fast that you would have thought her kayak had an outboard motor or something. When we got back to return the kayaks, we told the story and the Cast Members were dying laughing.

Snakes Everywhere

Holy Snakes!
I've seen the things just about everywhere.
At the Magic Kingdom, I saw a red one all curled up at night, just
sitting on the sidewalk that heads out of the park towards the
Contemporary.
I used to work at BB.
We would pull one out of the brush everyday.
Under the mountain, there is a storage area, but no one goes in
there because it is full of snakes. It's dark, damp and the things
are everywhere. It's like the Indiana Jones movie.
Oh and don't forget to look in the trees.

In the morning when we were at BB, we'd open the umbrellas, and you'd hear a plopping sound on the ground. It was usually a tree frog that
fell out of the umbrella when you opened it.

When TL first opened I remember my mother, sister, and I were doing the lazy river and up a head of us the CMs were fishing a snake out of the river!
