Hello,

I am wondering what WDW is like for snakes? I have a habit of spending a long time looking around for snakes. I am afraid of them so i often get paranoid that they are nearby. Has anyone ever seen any in the parks or hotels?

no worries... My husband is an exotic animal breeder (including snakes) so he is always on the lookout for snakes as well in WDW (but not for the reason you've listed ;) ) Anway, I'd steer clear of the Wilderness Lodge Camp grounds... other than that - the chances of seeing a snake in WDW are slim to none... (if you are super scared of them though I'd skip Rafiki's Planet in AK - there are lots of snakes there... all in aquariums of course - but they are there none the less)

I have never seen a snake at a Resort or theme park, though there are lizards all over. But they are fun to discover and follow.

I've only seen a snake at the Dolphin, but it was in the water where it belonged. I also saw a rat there...

I've seen snakes in Morocco in EPCOTs World Showcase .............................. they were handcarved wooden ones - completely harmless !!

We actually saw a black snake on the walkway from the Contemporary to the MK last May. It scurried way into the bushes as we approached it.

Nothing to worry about

I've never seen a snake, but I watched an Egret swallow a lizard whole once at TL. You could see the shape of the lizard in the Egret's throat after he swallowed it. I doubt the little black snakes get very big, as they are probably on the lower end of the food chain.

Ive hundreds of them in MGM...more on that later. Seen a few here and there at various resorts but they usually scurry away quickly. Discovery Island "AKA" snake island used to have quite a few running loose so im sure BL and SSL have their fair share. RC at FW used to have lots in the same water thet you swam in, then again that was water pumped in from BL. It was almost funny, every hour or so you would hear a wistle and see a lifeguard jump into the water only to emerge with a snake.

Now back to snakes at MGM.....The Raiders of the Lost Arc scene at GMR....."Snakes....Why did it have to be snakes?"

I've never seen one in the wild at WDW.

I have seen little lizards though, but they're kinda cute. They look like the geico gecko. I keep expecting them to sell me car insurance. They're actually sort of adorable.

I've heard on a couple of different occasions of Space Mountain being closed so they could take the snakes out. The CM said at that time that there was always a cool damp area where they migrated too.

i have never and let me repeat never seen a snake at any WDW resorts!!!!

i am dubious about fort.wilderness -there is no way that i would ever stay there for other reasons though.

in AK i use to be on the look-out for them but now im not assed -if i was to see any after screaming at the top of my lungs i would inform a CM and wouldnt be happy until it had been handled. coz my sister is ________ scared of them and we asked a CM at AK once and she said that if we did see any we where to inform a CM and the snake would be dealt with.

i love AK its one of my fave parks now im not on the look-out as bad as i use to be -i hate it when your on the safaris and all the branches and bushes come into the van :hurl: .
if you get the train to rafikis planet watch there are HUGE snakes in there but they are behind thick glass. you cannot touch them but there is an advantage of going to rafikis planet watch you get to see the surgery room and see CM weighing up the animal food, theres also a petting zoo but ive never been in there.

one thing i didnt like about PC was the fact that there was way too many bushes than normal -that freeked me out!

i have heard on these boards about snakes being in the water parks - i personally dont go to them coz they dont interest me. but i think if your going around on the lazy river there could be snakes in the water or on the sides -that thought makes me wanna :hurl: !!

dont obsess about it coz it will ruin your holiday and you dont want that.

i think of it as this: if they dont bother me then i wont bother them.

i use to think what if there is one/some in the water at spalsh mountain or on BTMRR or on any ride. obsessing about it will ruin your vacation.

Well, theres me spending half an hour stripping the rooms to make sure there are no snakes.

I think i'd die of fright if i saw one not behind thick glass.

I don't think you'd have to worry too much about 'wild' snakes running loose at WDW as long as you stay to marked paths and places where the general public is allowed to be. Most snakes found in that part of the country are not incredibly aggressive, so if one of them saw YOU it would probably die of a little snake heart attack. It's those gators you have to worry about. And, or course, the Red Sox fans...

I saw a black snake at BB once, it was over near where I was sitting and then these girls started screaming. The thing scurried away as fast as it could, it was more scared of the girls than they were of the snake.

FW you are bound to come across some as it is, well, the wilderness but if you dont go looking for them, then they won't come looking for you.

Snakes are pretty skittish animals. Definitely more afraid of you than you are of them.

They will not be in heavily populated areas for long. Stay out of un-improved areas and you should be safe !
