Doh :brick: I wasn't trying to express an opinion on smokers vs non-smokers. I do my best not to sterotype people.

I know you wouldn't do anything like that as I have had fun conversations with you. You have become a board member favorite.

I was making an attempt (not a good one evidently) about where this thread can lead us.

I apologize for coming across wrong.
I didn't think you were attacking me at all! Much love 'Puter Magic :D

I was more ashamed that that happened and was hoping that people realized we're not all like that. I went in my designated area and was fine with it when I was down there. The only time I smoked in a non designated area was when Illuminations was going on and NO ONE was around me because they were watching around the lagoon. I was up by SSE and talking with a CM who let me light up.

Tis no big deal, but I DO THINK WE SHOULD DROP IT! This isn't a "you're going to die from your WDW trip" conversation, so let's just shake hands and play nice kids, alright?

I did not mean to imply that your hygiene was anything less than perfect. I am confident that it would be a pleasure to smell you. I imagine that you only smoke one or perhaps two cigarettes a day and take extra precautions to totally eviscerate any and all of the noxious odors associated with inhaled burned tobacco products that normally exude from the respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system, lymph nodes, hair, and clothes of the average tobacco user.
I do smoke more than two, brush my teeth constantly, eat mints and do whatever I can to be pleasant around. I do know exactly what you are talking about regarding smokey smelling people. I have smelled them and it is NOT pleasant. I do strive not to smell like them.

I don't mind if people smoke as long as they are discreet and don't effect my personal surroundings. When I came out from the Living Seas I saw a guy smoking by my stroller in the "stroller parking" area. This area is NOT a smoking area, I asked him nicely to move to the correct area and it wasn't pretty. He was a real smart#$@ and flicked his cigarette butt in the other direction.....hitting a lady standing their. She went nuts, security came, guy gets escorted away after racial slurs at the lady and foul language at me and security and cast members.I believe he was booted and his wife/girlfriend was embarassed and appologizing to everyone making him look even more like a jerk. Now, I realize none of this probably would have happened if I didn't say anything to him but the bottom line is he should NOT have been smoking near me and my stuff stinking up everything. In this day and age smoking isn't a right.
Smoking has never been a written right, neither is drinking or driving. It could be, however, considered a right under the Bill of Rights IE: "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". I do consider that "right" to end at the non smokers nose.

Im not going to tell people not to smoke, but I'm all for Disney Security (or any CM) to have a Carbon Dixoide fire extinguisher handy to put out people's cigarettes who arent in the smoking secitions, and wish them a magical day.

My family and friends are highly allergic to cigarettes and While its a smokers right to poison themselves, its also my right not to have to put up with it, especially when smokers have their own private areas to do their habit in.
I am thinking super soakers. :)

From personal experience of having my asthma set off when walking into a billowing cloud of smoke outdoors I have to disagree with that one.
The same thing would happen if someone had a campfire outside as you walked by. Or if a Disney bus pulled away with a big puff of smoke as you walked by. No different. It's just the smoke in general.

To date, there has been no evidence of any harmful effects from second hand smoke in the open air.
This is true. Outside in the open air, all I ever get is a whiff (one breath) of cigarette smoke. Are you trying to shotgun the smokers? That's the only way outdoors that I'd ever get a lot of smoke in my lungs. :)

Also, as an aside, has anyone actually ventured to the smoking areas at Disney? They're some of the most pleasant, beautiful, and serene areas found in the parks. This is especially true at the Magic Kingdom. Makes me want to smoke to have an excuse to visit the smoking areas. Anyone who doesn't smoke in designated areas is seriously missing out.

I am a little put out about that one. I think many of the lovely out of the way places to stop have been convereted to smoking spots. However it is something I am willing to put up with if it means no smoking in other places. At least I can avoid them.

While 2nd hand smoke outside may or may not cause perminant damage, it is still stinky, offensive and bothersome. Heck just standing next to some who is a regluar smoker stinks. :hurl:

I remeber way back when we still smoked, we never took advantage of a smoking area. To tell the truth, I was not even aware that there were places for that. I always assumed that smoking anywhere outside was fine as long as it wasn't inside the buildings. I no longer smoke so obviously, I still don't pay attention to where the smoking areas are. But, am I alone in this? Are the areas clearly marked for those people who didn't purchase maps? Are there signs around the parks asking that smokers find these spots before they light up? I guess the real question is how are they supposed to know? I find the stentch is nasty, whether the smoker is smoking or just reeking of the smoke.

Sorry smokers, I don't mean to be mean it's just that I can smell you if you're 10-15 feet away:( and it's not a good smell.

No, they are not marked in any way whatsoever, except on the maps. Maps are free, but not everyone uses them. I know I usually don't, when I visit. I know the parks like the back of my hand (except the restaurants). :)

The only way to know if you're in a smoking area is to see if the trashcans have ashtrays built-into them. I think there may be a small sign at the areas, but there are no directional signs pointing to the nearest one, nor are there easily seen signs at the areas themselves. They say repeatedly that smoking is not allowed at any Disney park, except in designated areas, but if they don't make those areas obvious, how can they expect people to use them?

Not sure what "shotgun the smokers" means.

The park maps are free and they are clearly marked. I have heard announcements on the monorail, but am not sure if the announcement is made on the busses and trams.

The designated smoking areas are only a few years old, before that it was smoke where you have them.

There are still many nice out of the way places to stop. Trust me, I know. :)

I understand you find the odor offensive, and sometimes I do also. BUT, I find the odor of some perfumes and non washed bodies equally offensive.

I know the parks really well also, but, now I grab a map to find the smoking areas. LOL.

Inhale very close to the smoker as they exhale (as in, nearly mouth-to-mouth). :)

It was an exaggeration, but you get the idea. I'm pretty much indifferent to smoking. *shrugs*

Thanks for the definition. Probably before the smoking areas a lot of unfortunate non smokers had this happen to them.

As a smoker, I am very happy with the rules in the parks. It gives me a place to sit and relax and smoke with very little hassle. You occasionally get the rabid anti smoker that wanders through just to be a PITA, but, I can tell them to go away and leave me alone when they start their nonsense. :)

I am an ex-smoker (I quit four months ago) and I have to say that I truly believe a lot of the people smoking outside the designated areas are from Europe. They do not have the same attitudes towards smoking over there as we do here, and I am sure many of them are just unaware of our laws here.

However, the only place I ever really see a lot of people smoking is in the World Showcase, and that is probably due to the liquor availablilty. The two seem to go hand in hand for a lot of people.

1st :sohappy: :sohappy: Congratulation on quiting smoking! Good for you! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

2nd. those are good observations. I would have to agree. That is one reason I havn't travel over to Europe yet. I know the smoke with really bother me, instead I go to WDW where there is no smoking laws.
