Smoke a Cigar on the Balcony at WL?

Just curious. Can you smoke on your deck at WL? If you are in non-smoking? It just seems like the perfect place to catch some zzz's, a smoke and some relaxation at night.

But Gail, your olfactory sense has been pretty much destroyed over the years by being coated with heavy layers of tar and similar substances.

I don't think so. I still have a pretty acute sense of smell and taste. Tell me what cologne you wear and I could probably find you without any problem. :)

I still feel smokers do not need to be in front of everyones door smoking. I could not enjoy my view from my balcony or enjoy a serene Florida evening for the cig. smoke. We had to pass through 5 people smoking in front of our door. We had to ask them to move so we could get out. Is that fair - especially since we had both rooms right there - they were not even near their rooms. Our door and my daughters door were next to each other - when I asked the guy to move, he moved in front of my daughters door. I had to ask him to move so I could knock on her door -- this WAS an invasion on MY vacation. AND YES, the smell was in our room. I am sorry, I mean no disrespect to anyone - but, Disney does need to address this problem.

I would have asked them to move in front of their own doors. That was simply rude on their part, even if they were not smoking, why did they feel the need to congregate in front of your rooms? Disney can have all the rules it wants, but, until people learn consideration for others, it is all for nothing.

Gail you are absolutely correct - it does not matter what the rules are, there will always be people who feel they are above rules. We did ask these people to move. They did - to the railing, then back. Maybe they were afraid of heights LOL.

No you can not do it. My friend a few years back was lighting up out there before we left the room and got yelled at by Mickey Security, we ended up smoking our Cigars downstairs.

There has been NO evidence of smoke outside harming anyone.

if I can smell it, it's entered my respiratory system. that's not good. :) I know where the smoking areas are in WDW, and avoid them. if eveyone were like Gail, we'd have no problems. it's the people that push the rules to benefit themselves or make things more convenient for them while disregarding others that hack me off. no or non-smoking means just that. play nice.

LOL, wow.

Some people in this thread better watch out, or they might hurt themselves falling off those high horses.

I never thought starting this thread would start a smokers vs non-smokers war. It was just an innocent, and otherwise unanswered question. If you don't like their policies take it to a CM or write.

That might be true when it comes to purfume and foods, but when it comes to smoke you senses has dulled. I know a non smoker who is senitive can smell a wiff of it very far away. When you smell smoke all the time you don't even realize how nasty it is. If you did no one would EVER smoke!!!

Actually, there are exceptions to every rule or theory. If I have a guest in my home that smokes, that will wake me out of a sound sleep and now and then I walk into my home and smell lingering effects of smoke, and, yes, it is nasty. Time for the Pine sol to wash the walls, windex for the windows and febreeze for the fabric. I can also smell smoke in smoke free places, then I know someone is not paying attention to the rules. I truly would like to quit, but, now is NOT the time, my personal life is in a shambles and I am definitely using cigarettes as a crutch. :(

I am sure it was totally innocent, but, this topic always causes a debate of sorts. As to their policies, I have definitely written.

Haha, I didn't realize this thread would have gone as far as it did either! I guess I didn't know that so many people felt so passionately - I personally have never been a smoker and generally dislike the smell of smoke and I have a long background in biology and disease study so I know all the grisly details of smoke-related illness, but I figured my complaining to my future-brother-in-law about smoking his cigar on the balcony was just me being me. (Even though I didn't necessarily think it was unallowed, and have never been annoyed enough to complain about smokers when we've been next to other people who were smoking on their porches - I mostly figured it was just one of those things you had to put up with even if you didn't like it.)

That said, I guess it's all down to whatever WDW actually has or doesn't have written down in the books, which is probably what we should have gone looking for from the get-go! :p

What is written and what is enforced are two entirely different things in Mouseland.
I wish people felt this passionate for the cruddy air that surrounds many of us.
That is something that causes many many more health problems than the occasional whiff of smoke. Or....that more people would be passionate about highway safety and listen to the experts on safety restraints.

I am not on any high horse, unless following rules is considered such.

Gail, I was not refering to you in the least.

I was refering to those people that have continually posted in this thread to say nasty things about people and try to tell people how to live their lives.

Yes, some people don't like smokers. So say it and move on, they don't need to keep harping upon the topic.

I'd comment more specificly about some of the outrageous and just plain untruths people have used in this thread to further their own agenda, but it's simply not worth it.

I wouldn't want to strain my neck trying to reach them on that high horse, and those perched on that horse generally are so myopic it's not worth the bother anyway.

On My High Horse!

In the eighteenth century, Charles Lamb described his own addiction to nicotine in striking language:

For thy sake, tobacco, I
Would do anything but die.

He obviously understated the case.

This is very true. As someone who used to smoke but quit I know that when I was smoking I never smelled other smokers and now if someone is smoking near me I get sick from the smell. I can also smell it from much further away.
