This may seem strange......don't some Disney attractions have a smell? When you walk into Pirates it has this....well....smell. Mansion too!

OK ...it's just me.

Yes! Especially the big ones. Dinosaur, Test Track, Tower of Terror, etc. The water rides, like El Rio Di Tiempo, have that smell that must come from the water? The one smell I dont like is the water at Splash Mt. I am glad you dont get very wet on this one!

i love the 'smelly' rides!! especially Dinosaur...it's one of my faves! and also the burning wood smell on KRR...but how do they get that smell without actually burning wood all the time?

also, some stores have a distinct smell...in particular, Rainforest Cafe stores...how i wish i could bottle that smell up and take it home with me!!

heh... I've gotten pretty soaked on Splash Mountain. I was sitting up front and I got soaked. I still go to the disney parks with my folks, even though I'm in my mid-20s and I got soaked once sitting up front. The next time I was up front, i ducked on the big drop and let my dad, who was sitting behind me, get wet. He didn't appreciate that much.
But, yes, the water does smell funky.
The water in the lagoon at Epcot is pretty smelly too, sometimes.

I ALWAYS talk to my parents about the smells of rides and how I only get to smell that smell when I am in Disney World. I love the smell of Spaceship Earth. Also I loved the smell of the oranges in Horizons! I miss that! PotC has a great smell, so does Rio Del Tiempo. So many smells I like, so far away :( hehe

El Rio Del Tiempo smells like the water plus a bit of pepper for mexican flare. I don't quite known why, but the distinct peppery smell is there. Maybe the ventilation from the restaurant?

My least favorite smell: Manure which is heavy in an area after they replant the flowers. They give the flowers a full soak down right before sun up and by midday a musty humid "poo" smell is rampant.

I love that smell too. I'm going to Epcot this weekend. I can't wait.

So that's what that smell is! My friend and I often used to joke about Epcot and its penchant for "butt plants." :)

I love that smell too, I always thought it was a burning smell though. That's why they have the smouldering effect going on and stuff. Pirates has a great smell too.

I love the smells from Spaceship earth, Haunted mansion, pirates, space mountain, and the monorail. There are definitely smells only found in disney.

I'm 30, my husband 29, and the trip we took to Disneyland Paris this spring was the first time in the last five years we'd been to a Disney park without at least one parent travelling along. My sisters are 41 and 42 and they almost never go to Disney without my folks. So you're not alone -- if the parents are cool it just makes the trip more fun (and hoepfully they pick up part of the tab ;)!

And we always talk about certain smells at Disney. I love the smell in Countdown to Extinction (I refuse to call it by it's new name) and the musty smell in HM and ToT just add the the chill -- gotta love it!

When I was working in 'rails, I never could smell the trains because my sense of smell got accustomed to them...

However, I rode one of the trains the other day, and WHEW... those things REEK! It was like they were hauling animals from DAK or something... Now I see why everyone was complaining...

A lot of the smells used are pumped out to the crowds. For example, the fall of Rome. If you look to the right side as soon as you enter the room, there is a small (6" or so) round hole in the wall, the smell flows out from there and and is sucked up by the huge vents above you, that way it doesn't leave the room.

The smell of cookies on Main St. USA is also fake.

I just hold my breath. I turn a lovely shade of blue by the time we reach EPCOT!

I've always loved the Disney World smells for the most part and figured they were intentional. (Before Epcot opened the ads touted the prehistoric smells they had designed for Universe of Energy.)

In Sept, 01 the monorails smelled like manure. It was horrible!! Do they still smell like that? I started a thread on that topic (maybe on another forum) and someone said it was disinfectant but personally I'd rather have the bacteria.

In Sept, 00 Small World smelled uncharacteristically bad. It wasn't so bad in '01.

We have a local restaurant that smells like a Disney attraction. I've been meaning to ask them what they use. It's a great smell.
