Small World Water?

Was just wondering if anyone "in the know" had any info about when they are going to refill IASW. I thought I read something once about how they poured water from all the oceans of the world in when it first opened. I know that in viewing opening ceromonies of Disneylands version of IASW Walt himself had people from other countries dressed in their native clothing pour water in for the Grand Opening. Just wondering if anything like this was planned or not?

I don't know, but if I had to guess I would say no. The attraction is basicly done for rehab and doesn't need big attention for its reopening. It isn't as if it will be a new attraction. Disney probably doesn't want to spend any more money on the attraction then they have to and haveing a ceromony general cost money. The man purpose of have a cermony for the opening of an attraction is to promote the attraction and get the media's attention.

I heard the date March 18 floating around here a few weeks ago. They might do a re-dedication ceremony in conjunction with whatever press event they have for the 50th celebration. I think they'd probably want to make a big deal about it since they spent so much money already.

I'd say you're wrong for the exact reasons you listed. I don't know what the budget is for the rehab, but flying over 30 or so people to reopen the ride hardly makes a difference. Whats the max it could be, $60,000? BFD. The rehab budget is in the millions, doing a rededication to bring in media and people who want to see the refurbed ride for $60,000 is money well spent.

I don't think the Mouse would have to fly anyone over from anyplace... WDW has plenty of international Cast Members and a whole bunch of Hong Kong representatives, as well as French and Chinese. All they need is California.

I know the water from around the world was poured in when it was at the World's Fair back in the 60's. I am not sure if they did that when they opened it up in DL. For the rehab though, I think that it will be pure Florida bacteria water.

Mabee they could funnle all the water left on the ground in Fanstyland after wishes. I know enough water flows off the roof of columbia harbour house to have a white water rafting ride and every night the kids leave with soaked shoes from jumping in the puddles.

Yeah but you forgot to throw in the man power to set up the cermony, coordinate them, and clean them up. Also, you would have to spend money on props for the cermony, sound, lighting, just to name a few other things. It could cost much more then that. And to be honest if I were in Disney's management shoes, I wouldn't spend one dollar on a cermony. I would rather spend the money that would go into the cermony into advertisement, where it is more needed. There is no point in having a cermony for an attraction that has been around as long as the park, and everybody knows about. Specially when the upgrades are nothing more then repaint, adding new sound systems and fixing props, oh and a new fascade in the front. While the attraction will seem to have a breath of fresh air when it reopens, the attraction will still be the same attraction that has been their for 30 years.

This is a little of subject, but does anyone know how deep the water is?

And if you fell in, would you get electrocuted?

Im not sure of the depth, but most of the mechanicals for the ride system are probably air driven. Any ride sensors are also low voltage devices. Very low risk of getting shocked.

Id be more concerned about people trying to drink the water....:hurl:

Disney already pays the people that would be responsible for putting the ceremony together. And lighting and such? You have to be kidding if you think Disney just doesn't have lights upon lights upon lights sitting in warehouses all over. There are two new animatronics, and rumors of a new scene. I'd actually be very surprised if nothing special is done when it reopens. Rides just don't get more "Disney" than IASW.

 As for the water from all over the world, I hadn't heard that one. I DO know that this was done however for The giant fountain in Epcot when they opened.

I don't know if they did the waters of the world for MK, but they definitely did for the one at DL. I've seen the footage of it... it's featured on the Disneyland DVD from the Disney Treasures collection.

It's things like that, pouring water from different nations and continents, that make Disney so grand. It's completely unnecessary, yet so very important. It's the detail.

yeah, but the people that they have working on the ceremony is being taken from some other job that is probably more important. What I ment by man power is that they didn't have to find someone from out side disney to come in, but they have to use people inside the park, people that could be doing more important things. The re-opening of IASW is not that important enough to have a celebration just for its reopening. What they will most like do is when it comes to time to do the ceremony for Disney's 50 at the park, they will mention it with everything else they did to celebrate the 50th. The addition of two new animatronics and a new scene does not make the attraction any more exciting then it is now. Well maybe a tiny bit, but do you really want some extravagent ceremony just for that. I don't recall them ever doing ceremonies on any other attraction that was down for rehab

All I know is that if you fell in the water in IASW, I'd be more worried about being bitten by a snake than electrocution. It's one of those small things that they don't talk about, but it's florida, a swamp.

I would think (hope!) that IASW is a closed-enough system to prevent any of our scaly cold-blooded friends from taking up residence. My biggest worry would be hitting some of the ride machinery on the way down, especially at the load station.
