Greetings all.

Just wanted to give a small update(semi trip report) from Steves update today on how the M:S preview is going.

Yes the ride is opening now at 1 pm and staying open till close. I was at Epcot on both saturday, and sunday. There are 3 bays open now bays 1,2, and 3

Let me stress this. As of right now with all 3 bays open, and no major technical issues or tweakings to work on vs' the weeks it was first open, and only 1 bay open the line is moving very nicely. The loading an unloading is going very smooth, and I found myself able to ride it 4 times saturday in about an hour, and half. I rode it only once Sunday due to being with a larger crowd who wanted to see more of the park(s).

Saturdays line outside M:S to ride was from the secure wall all the way pass Body Wars entrance. Sunday's line went pass the splashgrounds, and drink carts heading toward Innoventions. Both days opening the gate on the secure wall were welcomed with very loud cheers, and clapping.

The response of course is very positive from guests. I spoke with one fellow rider while in line whom has rode M:S now 28 times to my mere 8 times LOL

Two little interesting technical tidbits. I dont know if these have been mentioned in prior M:S threads since there are so many. The post show area (space race) had to have the pc's rebooted for some unknown reason, and I can confirm all the space race pc's run Windows 2000 Professional.

The other techincal tidbit I found out from talking to a CM. They stated that with M:S they have what is known as Intellivision on it. What that is this. They take a "snapshot" of what a clean empty centrifuge looks like, and the system checks before each run to make sure the current centrifuge matchs what the "snapshot" shows. If it detects, anything there be it a dime or even a footprint (yes a footprint) it will not turn on.

Now your probably saying come on Orlpassholder your joking on the footprint? Acutally I am not! I was told when the system first was being tested in the early weeks that the Intellivision system would check the centrifuge, and the snapshot. It would detect riders footprint from their shoes, and would not run. They had to tweak the sensitivity to allow for footprints to be in the centrifuge.

There ya go thats my update/semi trip report/ long winded story. Sorry I havent been posting more, things in the labs have been crazy, and also just got off vacation. Hey a geeks gotta relax to ya know :hammer:

Gee, and my Intellivision is only good for playing Astro Smash!

But seriously, that sounds interesting.

Do you mean, inside the centifuge room or the pods. I can imagine nothing is allowed in the area it's spinning correct?

I wonder why they use windows 200 pro, and not XP. (oh ya, XP is unreliable and likes playing the closing game with u.

(Edit: spelling fixed)

True.

The "Intellivision" (also called IntelliVideo) System is part of the intrusion detection system, which is a part of the Wayside Ride Control System. There are 16 video cameras mounted in each ride room - 10 around the periphery of the room and 6 on the skirt of the centrifuge (the skirt covers the buss bars). In addition, there are, iirc, 10 PIRs (Passive Infrared Motion Detectors) in each ride room.

When the ride room entrance and exit doors close, a test is run to ensure each ride room is clear of persons and foreign objects. Even small loose objects could present a danger if left laying loose on a ride room floor. The system compares snapshots between an ideal condition and the current condition in a ride room and then makes a determination by comparing groups of pixels between those "ideal" and "current" conditions. Situations such as the ride not being properly homed (within a few degrees of its parking location for loading and unloading), faulty lights in a ride room, and even the ride room floor being recently polished can have an effect on whether the intrusion system provide a "go" or "no go" signal to the Wayside System. When that happens the Intellivision System has to be put through a relearning process.

When you enter a ride room, look immediately to your right or left against the outer wall (depending on where you enter) and you'll see a plexiglass dome covering a camera. That's one of the intrusion system cameras. Usually, there's also a white, rectangular device nearby with three small LEDs on it (a green, a yellow, and a red) that illuminate as you walk by. That's a PIR detector.

The entire system is custom designed by the Imagineers using commercially available parts. Some of the software behind it is developed specifically for M: S though. All in all, it's a brilliant and well thoughtout design. It's not the original though as the original didn't work properly and had to be re-engineered.

He, that's probably TMI for most already, so I'll shut up now. :D

Do you mean Wonders of Life, or Body Wars INSIDE the Wonders of Life pavilion?

Also, have you heard the theme song?

Thanks! :)

Just a quick 411 to add.....while it is opening at 1pm almost everyday....they told us to come back between 5pm and 7pm if we don't want to wait in line. So we waited.

We got there (Saturday) at 6:30pm and rode it with almost no wait...it was 3 minutes, we had the electronic things. We rode over and over again. The CM's did however after our first ride help my son to a chair and point out the many trash cans. So my other son and I kept riding. They asked him alot of questions about how it made him feel. What part made him feel that way etc. One of the CM's came up and told him to try walking it off as it seems to work better. That CM was right. He did feel better after walking around and playing the game in the game room etc. We did get to ride it though 6 times. After the 6th continuous ride, my other son bailed on me. He couldn't take it anymore. He said his cheeks felt like they permanently attached to the back of his head.

I'm so sorry to hear that! My cheeks hurt a bit, too! :(
