My main issue is not the lack of audio, which would have been really nice, but the lack of track overhaul for a higher quality ride. I think these new sections of track to fix the "problem areas" will have little to no impact on the overall feel of the ride. It looks like it will always feel like a herky-jerky piece of garbage. Tokyo's does not feel like that at all. At least it will finally be dark in there...I hope now I won't be able to see the ground near the end of the ride, which completely ruins the ending.

The interactive queue idea sounds cheesy. At Soarin it is "OK", but I would have preferred a continuation of the darker, moodier setting before boarding Space Mountain.

Thats my main gripe as well. Its great that they're finally repairing and fixing areas of track to make it smoother. The fact that this should have been done about 15 years ago is beside the point, so I digress. Space travel, for the most part, should be a smooth and rather silent experience, not herky jerky and clackity (I'm looking at you lift hill chain). From what I'm reading and observing from the updates, the bulk of the issue with the track and overall coaster design has not been properly addressed or rectified.

On-board audio has never been a make-it or break-it sort of thing with me. For attractions like RnRC, the on-board audio makes sense and fits the story. I still do not understand how on-board audio would thematically enhance SM. It would improve the sensory experience, thats for sure, but thematically no. I'm with jt on this one; incorporated sound EFFECTS with new scenery would be welcomed, but an actual musical soundtrack - you still have to convince me about that one. Personally, from this refurb, I wanted a completely new track with a new layout that preserved the concept of the mirrored track design, new lift hill with silent chain that included a launch at the top, new rockets, enhanced effects, and new load/unload/postshow. But, since only a fraction of that is happening, I guess we'll just have to see what we get instead.

You have obviously never ridden SM in DL.

On the subjct of SOBAT, don't knock it until you try it on SM. Having ridden both DL's and WDW's, after coming back to WDW after my trip to DL, I missed the SOBAT. Without it the ride just sounds like a roller coaster in the dark. DL's sounds like an epic adventure through space, which is what I want to feel while riding SM.

For those of you who don't think On-Board Audio is important. Please book a flight to Los Angeles. Ride Disneyland's Space Mountain and report back.

I've never ridden it either, but I suppose that it's much like being IN Star Wars. It helps the theme and the feeling of the sensation of flight.

While a Space Mountain that is silent and sleek is more scientific, this is Tomorrowland, and a Future Fantasy, if you will. I think it would fit perfectly.

(And I would very much want DLP's FIRST score...WOW.)

Okay I'm somewhat confused with this whole STARPORT thing? Is this a replacement of the Video Arcade? Or something totally new? What is it, like a post show? I don't know what this is lol.

Just chiming in on the audio... as a Florida native who moved to California, I can tell you that the audio adds a LOT to the experience and does not detract from the imagination level in any way whatsoever. The music on Space Mountain is completely unique to Space Mountain, so it's not like you're associating it with something else. The fact that it's synchornized to the actual ride with every up and down makes it such a cool experience that only helps to add a big goofy grin to my face. It adds so much to the ride that you really feel its loss on those occasions where the audio isn't on for whatever reason. Definitely a bummer that Florida will still be w/o it IMO...

Exactly- DL's SM is much more emotional than WDW's because of music. No matter what your imagination says, the on board audio will help.

By the way, you know SOBAT isn't an official acronym, right?

I don't know- I'm excited about the queue. What they're doing sounds like they are re-routing it in a way. I don't know how, maybe they are pushing the merge to the entrance of the building like at DLR, or maybe they are adding walls between lines in some places. I'm also excited for the load area. I mean, even TDO knows they had to do something on that new ceiling. :animwink:

Now off board audio effects hold much promise imo.
Don`t count on it - not in the main mountain. The ride has had offboard since 1975 but you can`t hear it a lot of the time apart from in the tunnels. The fx in the lift area are muted by the racket of the lifts.

I`m all for onboard; a great score just adds to the experience. Tied and synced to offboard visuals like in Paris it is amazing. If you don`t like it cover your ears :D

If the lifts were quieter...:zipit:

And I agree with a synchronized score. Ear covering might be hard, though....

And somehow, I don' think that screaming "Daaaaaa Naaaa Naaaaa Naaaaaa NaNA" along to the SM score will really help.:lookaroun

Nope!  And unfortunately probably won't for some time. I guess til then, I can't really make an accurate judgement on it, but for right now, I'm perfectly okay with no musical score for SM. I am unhappy that there's no new track, layout, ride vechicles, etc, but the on-board audio is not a make or break for me.

It's not make it or break ut for me either... but I think it's dissapointing without it. It totally transforms the ride experience, if you've ridden the DLP one it's amazing the suspense it builds on the lift, and how when you go through a tunnel you get a change in mood. The celebration style at the end is beautiful.

Just imagaine watching James Bond, or Angels and Demons or any other action movie without a score, sure it would be interesting, but its much better with it...$

I do this at WDW already, I feel everyone should enjoy my version of the paris score... I get some funny looks :lookaroun

The lifts definatly should be quieter... I love DLP, especially score 1...

I have some ear plugs if you want...
