Sleeping Beauty Platnium vs Special Edition dvd?

I, like many people I'm sure, bought the "Special Edition" dvd of Sleeping Beauty when it came out a few years ago. Now, there's a "Platinum Edition" available. The Sleeping Beauty Special Edition wasn't one of the crappy SE's that they sometimes do; it was full of nice additions and updates. So the question is, has anyone bought the Platinum Edition after buying the Special Edition and can tell me if it's worth getting or not? I don't have Bluray so that doesn't matter to me, it's more whether or not there's enough NEW extras to make it worthwhile. I've been trying to find reviews between the two editions and not doing very well.

Anyone care to weigh in? If the differences are minor, then I probably don't need two versions. But I'd like to hear some actual, hands-on feedback if possible to help me decide.

Thanks!

I pre-ordered Sleeping Beauty on dvd and blu-ray and I picked them up yesterday. I just watched the new Platinum Edition dvd and it was awesome :king: I plan to watch the Platinum Edition dvd and the Special Edition dvd back to back and I think I will do this on Thursday. The Platinum Edition has some extra bonus stuff not on the Special Edition that you might like.

I will get back with you later on all of this. I am tired and I am not really feeling well. This new edition of Sleeping Beauty did help me to feel better :king:

So far I have not watched much of the bonus stuff from the new dvd edition of Sleeping Beauty. I do plan on watching a lot more of the bonus stuff really soon.

I have the SE and now the Blu-ray platinum, which comes with a copy of the platinum dvd as well.

I compared the 2 dvd's to each other. The platinum release is much cleaner, as you can tell it has been totally restored. I'm not sure what the features on the 2nd DVD on the set are.

For anyone that is interested, the blu-ray release is AMAZING. One of the best looking BD's that we have in our collection. We have a PS3 for a blu ray player, and it performed a system update just for the disc. When the menu screen comes up with Sleeping Beauty's castle, the weather outside reflects the weather outside your own home....very cool.

Cool, let me know what you think. (And feel better!)

Is that just because you're watching the Blu-ray version though? Since I don't have Blu-ray, I wonder if it will look better on the standard dvd as well or not.

Anyone else with feedback - I welcome your thoughts. Still trying to decide if it's worth getting a second time or not.

Do you mean that when you buy the Platinum BluRay "Sleeping Beauty" you get a regular DVD of the movie as well?

We're going to purchase the BluRay version, but were going to wait until after our Disneyland vacation. Though, if it comes with a regular DVD, we may purchase it and take it with us to watch.

The Blu-ray Platinum edition is a 2 disc Blu-ray edition that comes with a bonus Dvd disc. The bonus dvd disc is the same as disc one from the 2 dvd disc Platinum dvd edition. So when you purchased the film on Blu-ray you also get disc one from the Platinum dvd edition :king:

Sorry for being dense...
So, you're saying if I buy the blu-ray version, I'll have a DVD version of the movie as well, allowing me to watch the full movie on a regular DVD player? I'll have both a blu-ray version of the animated feature AND a DVD version?
(Just want to make sure that "disc one from the 2 dvd disc Platinum dvd edition" contains the whole movie)

Actually I think it's good that you want to be careful :)

Anyways yes you will have the whole movie on dvd if you purchased the blu-ray version. You will have the whole movie on blu-ray and on the bonus dvd you will have the whole movie on dvd.

I see from that link that someone posted, that the movie was released in special edition back in 2003. I was told a few years ago (perhaps by an unreliable source) that Disney only releases these movies every 7 years, then puts them back in the vault for another 7 years. Is that true? If so, why was Sleeping Beauty re-released after only 5 years?

And, to open up another can of worms (assumming that the above is true), then would the 7 years begin when the movie is first released, or when it goes back into the vault? Because I notice that several movies that were released in the past couple years are still on the shelves. I thought they were only supposed to be available in stores for so long, then they go back in the vault. Yet, I still see Peter Pan on the shelves as well as a few others.

I don't know how true that rumor is, but assuming it is I guess they made an exception because of the 50th anniversary of the film. What better time to re-release it?

It's odd. It seems like when I wake up a feel awful, but after being up for a while I don't feel as awful, then I go to sleep and the next day when I wake up I go back to feeling extra awful and after being up for a while I go back to feeling much better :p

Though yesterday I did have this killer headache that lasted for a while. I keep trying to take it easy so the headache would go away and it would sorta for like a little bit, but soon it would come crashing back like lighting. What happend was I just got sick and tired of trying to take it easy so I stopped doing that and I just basically said in my mind that this killer heahache can attack me all day if it wants, but I am not going to try to take it easy in more. After I stopped trying to take it easy and just accepted the fact that this killer headache might torment me all day, I noticed that my headache got so much better and it did not come crashing back like lighting anymore and it was not tormenting me anymore and I also noticed that I was kinda starting to take it easy without even trying to take it easy :king:

I have some links for you :king: They are online reviews about Sleeping Beauty :sohappy: I have read the review from the first link it full, as for the second review I have kinda read it and kinda skipped around, but I have not got around to reading it in full. I think they can help you get a good idea about this new dvd edition.

The Special edition of Sleeping Beauty was a very nice edition and it had a lot to offer. I believe a lot of people will find that the Platinum edition has a lot more to offer than even the Special edtion. I also believe that many people will be glad that they purchased the Platinum edition and also glad that they purchased the Special edition. There are some things that the Special edition offers that it not on the Platinum edition.

I have looked at the bonus stuff on the Platinum edition. I really like the "Princess Fun Facts" on this new Platinum edition :king: The "Princess Fun Facts" give you a different way to watch the movie. You can watch the movie like it was in the Cinema and you can also watch the movie with "Princess Fun Facts" which means words will pop up during the movie giving you information about what Castles and Princesses were like back then and some Disney information ect. > This Platinum edition also has a new audio commentary (I have not played this film with this audio commentary yet) that was not on the Special edition and I also want to point out the the audio commentary on the Special edition is not on the Platinum edition. I have also watch some of the bonus stuff on disc 2 of the Platinum edition and I am really enjoying it. Later today I plan to watch some more bonus stuff on disc 2 of the Platinum edition and I also plan to play the new games on this Platinum edition.

I am very happy with this new dvd edition of Sleeping Beauty :king: A lot of people don't know this, but Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Princess film :king:

Thanks for the links. Good comparative reviews. Looks like it might be worth picking up even though I have the SE version.

Hope you feel better soon,
