Skipping a Trip

With all the construction going on at HS and rides now gone we are skipping a couple of years until our next trip. Right now, why would anyone spend a day at HS? Lets face it, if you wanted to spend just 1 day at one of the parks why waste your money on HS. I know there are 3 other parks to go to. But when you spend that kind of money it's just not worth it to go at all.

Also, why didn't they wait to close TGMR until the construction was done? They might as well close the entire park.

So with my vent over now, we have decided to skip a couple of years until this is done.

So do you think Disney is losing money with people like myself who are repeat customers not going? Or are there only a few like me?

You fail to understand that the IP that GMR displayed was rented and they chose not to renew the rental agreement for whatever reason(s).

We never spend the entire day at one park, we hop for rides or dining because face it, MK is mainly burgers and fries land.

I didn't fail to understand anything. The ride is closed for whatever reason and could have been renewed until the construction was done. Right now this isn't even a half day park.

Why would we go to HS....
Tower of Terror
Rockin' Roller Coaster
Star Tours
Toy Story Midway Mania
Indiana Jones Stunt Show (We catch every time we go because you never know when it will be gone)
The Muppet Show (before it changes)
Star Wars Fireworks
Photo Ops with Star Wars Characters
Minnie's Holiday Dine at Hollywood and Vine
And I'm sure there are a few other reason's that I'm forgetting. A trip to WDW without a stop to HS just isn't complete.

Looking at the Touring Plans list of closed attractions, the biggest items I see of are:
The Backlot Tour
The Great Movie Ride
Lights Motor Action
Streets of America (Not really a ride or a show, just a place to walk through)
And a various seasonal/Temp walk throughs and shows that were never meant to be long term and a few that went a lot longer than they should have.

Everybody always talks about how HS has been gutted and is not worth the time anymore. The majority of the main attractions are still there. They took out a few things that had a big footprint to make room to put some, what I hope to be, fantastic new rides but to say that it is not worth spending a day at is just absurd. Although it does make me laugh a little when I hear people say parks like HS and Epcot are going down hill and they are not going to visit them until construction is done or until changes are made and then the same people are crying because they did not have a chance to ride The Great Movie Ride or Maelstrom, or watch Captain EO one last time because they skipped that park on their last visit.

I'm with MickeyMomV. I'm sure it's just me and my family, but I just don't understand the people who say it's not worth going to HS. We still love the park. Why can't people enjoy riding the 3 main attractions more than once in a day? I think the big 3 at HS are 3 of the best attractions in all of WDW. I really enjoy the fact that I'll more than likely be able to ride them at least a couple times. We still go to the shows and other attractions as well. Each time I prepare a touring plan for HS it somehow always seems to fill out an entire day. Now, I would agree if I only had 1 day at WDW I would probably pick MK just because it's got the most "Disney" feel, but if I was there for 4-5 days I definitely wouldn't skip the park.

Again, these opinions are mine and not meant to imply anyone else's are wrong...:)

I've been super critical of the decision to close so much of HS, including the Great Movie Ride. This should have never closed with HS in its current state. That was a mistake.

However, I just returned from a 10 day trip and never planned a full day at DHS. Interestingly, I kept finding myself thinking:
  • Well, I need to go back to HS to watch Fantasmic.
  • Well, I need to head back to HS to see the Star Wars Fireworks.
  • Oh, I need to do Toy Story and Tower of Tower.
  • Well, I might as well watch the Indy show...who knows when they'll ax that (even if it needs to be axed).
  • Always enjoy Beauty and the Beast, might as well stick around for that.
So I really never spent a full day there, but I could easily justify a full day, particularly since it currently closes at 8:30pm. Does it have the best attractions? Well, Tower of Terror is certainly in the conversation. Toy Story is still really fun. Star Tours is different nearly every time you ride and still fun. The shows are dated....really dated. But I still like them, especially the nighttime shows.

It's on life support, but this is definitely the low point. It's all upside from here.

I spent a day at HS on 9/18. You really have to make a concerted effort to make it an all-day thing. I would only visit if you're an AP holder or you already have park-hopper. I don't plan to return until next year during the Holiday season when TSL is open.

That said, most people only think of the low number of attractions and forget the shows. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Frozen Sing Along. It's the narrators with the inside jokes for adults that make it a good show.

I did have to go to HS twice to see Disney Movie Magic/SW Fireworks one night and Fantasmic on another. Since I arrived mid-afternoon on my check-in day, I decided that HS would be the park I would go to in that evening for the projection shows/fireworks. I picked HS for my day after MNSSHP because I didn't need to be there at rope drop and could sleep in after the party. It was on that day that I stretched to ride almost every attraction and saw almost every show. But you really have to make an effort.

We usually do Toy Story first with a FP for later. WE then walk over to TOT and RnRC. We go in off season and can sometimes do a repeat on one of these. Forget BatB, the only thing I liked about that show was 4 for a Dollar. I'm in my 60s and kids are grown so the kiddy stuff we don't do. I have never seen Frozen and probably never will. Then it's over to Star tours with a FP and if the line isn't too long use stand by first and then a repeat with FP. Then Indy. Not a full day. We have seen Fantasmic enough where we don't enjoy it anymore. It's just not worth it to us to sit for an hour and wait and then fight the crowds leaving and on the bus. But def. the fireworks.

Yeah, I wouldn't do Fantasmic unless with a VIP ticket or FP+. Because I had done several of the rides two nights before and saw the projection shows then, I kept a FP+ for it.

If that works for you, that's good. You're essentially just skipping a lot of the stuff DHS offers (your prerogative). I was just making the point that DHS can be a full day and even parts of multiple days if you want to do nighttime entertainment with Star Wars Fireworks and Fantasmic.

If you have kids and they are star wars and toy story types, you still have plenty to do. Jedi Academy and shows are awesome. Midway Mania still has meet and greets. My daughter is a ToT nut, cant get enough. As adults. i guess you are not getting ride bang for buck, but for kids it is over load. Frozen Sing a long, dis. Jr live, Launch Bay, Little Mermaid Live, Beauty and Beast live, Pixar Live, Fantasmic and SW Fireworks show. Food Brown derby with Fantasmic tickets, Tune in lounge, 50's diner, sci fi diner, Holly Wood and vine. Ride, ST,Indy Stunt, Midway, ToT, RRC, , Muppets.
I hope people will not want want to go, so the poeple that do will have lite crowds and lots of rides.

Don't feel bad, we are doing the same thing. Have planned trip to DisneyLand for next year (even though it has construction as well) since our oldest, her husband and the grandchildren she has blessed us with haven't been there yet!

HS is my least favorite park. I'm not into the thrill rides so I really just do Toy Story and a few other things and call it a day. I usually go there once on a weeklong trip, and not at all on shorter trips. I'm planning on going there on the day I fly in next year, since it's a long and tiring day anyway and I won't feel pushed to do lots of attractions.
