Ok, my husband and I just split unexpectedly and we already had a trip planned, I was too late to get a full refund so it looks like I am going solo w\ 2yr old and 3 yr old boys. We have been to Disney many times before and I know it will be tiring, but think the bonding time with the boys is important now. Here is my issue, my 3, almost 4 yr old is tall for his age, and can reach the chain locks on the room doors. We are staying at Allstar Sports and I asked when I changed the reservation and she thought that they may be able to put some kind of cover over the lock? Any ideas, or does any one know of something I can buy prior to the trip to keep them from escaping while I am in the shower? Any help would be appreciated.

go to the store and buy a door cover for small children it clips over the and you as a adult has to squeeze it. You can also for double safty put the chain on they cant reach it. I also bring outlet covers to keep the outlets covered, and away from fingers or pens.

Wow your 4 year old must be VERY tall to be able to reach that. Its about 6 feet off the ground. Cant you just teach him not to escape the room in the middle of the night?

My son too can open the doors of hotels and tries to escape and he just turned 2. He can't reach the chain, but can turn those knobs. Our son too would take the childproof covers off the doors and then opens them. We got those ones from Wal-Mart, but found ones from Babies R Us that go over the but have a cover over the center that he can't take off. The other ones didn't. I can't remember if the knobs are round or like the lever, but either way you should be able to get either one for the door. They also make alarms you install yourself. It is like a door jam and if the door starts to open the alarm will go off. Maybe at least would wake you up or get you out of the shower in time to get him. I would check out someplace like Babies R Us or maybe One Step Ahead and see what they have that you may be able to temporarily install to keep your son safe. Best of luck!

I second the child proof doorcovers but I remember when we stayed in 2007 the chain they had was high on the door so maybe he wont beable to reach it.

I am very sorry about your sudden split and I think its great that you are still going to take your boys. Have a great bonding trip!!!!!

Some travel supply websites/stores sell doorstops with an alarm that will go off if the door is opened. I bought mine at travelsmith for less than $15.

If the doors have chains, why not just use a tie wrap (from a loaf of bread) to shorten the chain? Cheap, simple and something that will break in an emergency....

If it's the other type, use the tie wrap to secure the two together?
