Frist up, I think you're asking should you book ahead of time for the character meal? Yes. Yes. Yes. As a general rule, ALWAYS book ahead for your Disney character meals.

As for what to see -- make sure to walk by Haunted Mansion at night (oh so spooky!) and throught Tomorrowland (looks so neat at night). As for the fireworks (and parade, if it runs when you're there), Main Street USA is the traditional view. I prefer standing in the hub in front of the castle. Many people also go upstairs at the train station on Main Street.

June 29th is the pm extra magic hour at the Magic Kingdom. Since you are a resort guest, you can participate in this.
Evening Extra Magic Hours typically extend three hours beyond a park's scheduled closing time. You'll need to obtain a wristband at the theme park by presenting a valid Key to the World Card at one of several designated locations no sooner than two hours prior to park close.

Attractions open during EVENING Extra Magic Hours

Magic Kingdom:
Astro Orbiter
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
Cinderella's Golden Carrousel
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Mad Tea Party
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Peter Pan's Flight
Space Mountain
Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Splash Mountain
Country Bear Jamboree
Jungle Cruise
Swiss Family Treehouse
Stitch's Great Escape!

You don't have a lot of time at WDW and there is a whole lot to see. The suggestions for the MK already made are good ones. Do take advantage of the extra magic hours. The fireworks show Wishes is a must see as well as the parade and the nighttime parade Spectromagic.

While it is pushing it a bit, I would go to Epcot or MGM one of the mornings. I don't know how much you like thrill rides, but there is Tower of Terror and Rock and Roller Coaster at MGM plus the Motor Stunt Show (you can miss that if you go to Disneyland Paris). Epcot has a lot as well including the new Soarin' and Mission Space. I also love Animal Kingdom, but don't see how you can fit that into this trip.

Do get a tour book and study up a little to make the most of your trip. Understand and use fastpasses and do make preferred seating (reservations) for specific meal locations.

Hopefully you will have more time in a future visit.
