Silly question.............but are you able to walk around River Country?

I guess out of all of WDW's property one place I have never ventured around is the area River Country used to be. Or Fort Wilderness for that matter or even the road above Magic Kingdom (not sure you can get there). Perhaps you can't get access to either one of them though. But I would like to just see an abandoned water park if I could get the chance. Even though it is very un-Disney like to let this thing just rot within seeing distance of the Contemporary resort I have to ask are you able to get close to it?

Nope, it's totally off limits. Mind you, people have done it (and posted the YouTube videos to prove it.) But they got banned for doing it. So youve got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?'

Just Google River Country or Discovery Island and you'll find URBEX videos. There are even some shady vids of Horizons from the Mesa Verde crew.

If you made it, you might not make it back out the way you went in. Since abandoning the area there have been lots of crawling, creeping, slithering creatures that have taken up occupancy. They have put out their Do Not Disturb signs and do not like being bothered by curious guests.

Oh no, I'd never go and take the risk by climbing over a "DO NOT ENTER RESTRICTED ACCESS" sign. I was just wondering how close you can actually get to it from, say, a parking lot or something. It just doesn't make sense to me. Why does Disney of all places whose standards are second to none let this park rot away? Why not clean it up and put a resort there or expand Fort Wilderness? It has been 17 years.

A question that has been asked over and over again. They just got around to filling in the pool last year leaving it open filled with rain water just waiting for someone to trespass and fall in. The Lawyers finally convinced them that it was stupid to keep it open I presume.

Its easy, walk to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. The entrance is River Country's.

I only had the fortune to be there once. Had a great time, one of the slides in particular made me come out "skipping". Unfortunately no-one is able to walk around river country anymore.

It was one of my favorite things about Disney World... but in this day and age will never see anything like that again. I’m glad I got to experience it as a child.

This is as close as you can get, I believe.. took these from Bay Lake last year.

It’s closed and it’s private property give it up

You can still view the area in my photos.. that’s what @Captain Barbossa was referring to. Anyone who rents a personal watercraft on Bay Lake can see that.. you can’t get in, but your boat stops if you disconnect yourself from the cord attached to the ignition anyway.. so no chance of getting of the boat regardless.lol..not to mention the camera pointed straight at you.

Parts are in bay lake, walk around that on the bottom of bay lake, the gators await you’

Um, no, it's an abandoned attraction and you'd be trespassing.

In addition to the eastern diamondback rattler, you'd run into water moccasins, mosquitos and these.....
