of course, you're entitled to your own opinion...but i'm just not sure where you're coming from on this one :veryconfu personally i thought the specail effects were just as good as any other movie i've watched recently (again, with the exception of LotR) could you maybe explain this a little bit? maybe tell me which specail effects in particular you're refering to, and what other movie you're comparing them to? that is, if you were speaking specifically to certain parts and such.

I'm with Josh. Until Signs, I've never been truly scared by a movie. I saw it and had to go back and see it 3 times. It quickly became my favorite movie. The special effects were really good, the storyline was flawless, and the way the story unfolds is genius. You never know more than the main characters do. It's almost as if you're with them, experiencing it also. I bought the DVD (pre-ordered) and got it today. Watching it, something is lost on the transfer from theater to DVD. This movie is one that had to be seen in theaters to truly appriciate it. Besides that, the music rocks! *Listens happily to the OST* :)

It's meant to be scary, I've still got the fingernail marks on my arm to prove it!

Personally i didn't find it scary, i think it would have been much better if you never actually saw the aliens.

An enemy you can't see is always scarier than one you can.

and the special effects were terrible. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz...

With your statement on the FX, Steve, I can see you REALLY missed the point. Its not about the aliens, or how the world comes together to blow the aliens away with incredible FX. Its about how ONE family copes with what is going on with such a small amount of time gone by after losing a family member, and ones faith.

Don't rent or buy this movie expecting another Independence Day. Trust me. After seeing it opening day, walking out of the theater, I overheard two guys my age (early 20's) saying they didnt like Signs, then comparing it to Independence day and the Alien movies. That just doesn't make sense to me. Why criticize a movie when you compare it to other movies that are NOTHING like it.

:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: Bravo, BRAVO, MajinBuu!!! EXTREMELY well said! wish there were more people in the world like you who are so open minded about non-action movies (and when i say non-action, i mean movies such as those that are 65% action, 30% special effects and 2% plot)

We are all entitled to our opinion. Just because he says the fx were not that good doesn't mean he is comparing it to "action" movies.

Maybe this is what happens when the forums stay quiet for so long...one person sees the glass half full, the other person grabs the glass and throws it on the first! :D

I'll never forget the first time someone told me they didn't care for Star Wars (New Hope). You couldv'e knocked me down with a feather. Okay, maybe a lot of feathers, but that's when I realized that discussing films can be almost as dangerous as religion or politics.

Well, I hope you're happy Freaky, starting all this unrest and disruption. Bad Freak!

Yes, it is true! What made it even worse, was that it was someone who I was SURE, really SURE, would enjoy it. I asked her why she didn't like it, and she said she just didn't care for it. It really was hard for me to accept (at the time). Oh well, live and learn.

"You didn't think the lightsabres were neat?" I asked. She looked at me straight in the eye and said, "They're just make believe."

I tried so hard to follow that movie.

I TRIED to like it.
I WANTED to like it.
I grinded my teath and squeezed my arm rest really hard...TRYING with all my might..... to like it.

But when the baseball bat scene came in with that whole "swing" thing at the end. The dam broke and I couldn't hold back the disappointment any longer.

I tried but M. Night Shalablab beat me in the end.

HUH??? What about that scene broke the "dam" as you say?

It just seemed "cheesy" with that alien just standing there waiting for that dude to take his bat, have his little "swing" memory and get belted with it.

I was almost expecting to see the dude look out the window and listen to the "crowd roar" at his ficticious home run going over the wall.

Sorry, I laughed my tail off at it.

So the alien never saw a baseball game. Like the alien knew what was comming? More than likely he was waiting for some friends to take care of the rest of the family. You seem to see the alien as human.
