No,...I see the aliens being smart enough to acheive inter-steller space travel in high-tech ships and mount a simaltanious global invasion of Earth but NOT being smart enough to know when he/they are going to be hit with a blunt object, 30 long seconds before it happens.

So you believe that the aliens should be all knowing about things they have never seen/heard/experienced?

Well, the basic laws of physics and biology on "Earth" would warn that a long hard pole swinging twards you at a fast rate of speed would certainly "hurt".

It's true that maybe where this alien comes from, it is NOT physically possible to "hurt" something in this same manner....so he wasn't expecting it.

I don't know. I never looked at it that way.

I'm just playing bro,....plain and simple, I just didn't like the flick.

We laughed so hard too! I went with my sister, her husband, my brother, his wife and my cousin. We all laughed so loud! The theater was not so full, so we could hear others laughing hard with us too... it was a general thing... we thought it was funny. :animwink:

.... we were waiting for the crowd outside to cheer for the homerun!

As you say, the general effects were upto the standard of other major movies, no complaints there.

With your statement on the FX, Steve, I can see you REALLY missed the point. Its not about the aliens, or how the world comes together to blow the aliens away with incredible FX. Its about how ONE family copes with what is going on with such a small amount of time gone by after losing a family member, and ones faith.

Don't rent or buy this movie expecting another Independence Day. Trust me. After seeing it opening day, walking out of the theater, I overheard two guys my age (early 20's) saying they didnt like Signs, then comparing it to Independence day and the Alien movies. That just doesn't make sense to me. Why criticize a movie when you compare it to other movies that are NOTHING like it.

Oh I hate the movie independance day. I generally dislike any movie that is based of FX. However, I do like to see movies that have FX that help to deliver a convincing story. The creature effects in Signs just looked rediculous, and went further to make the ridiculous storyline even worse!

I can agree that effects for the aliens were not top notch. However, I learned from "Unbreakable" that Shyamalan doesn't follow a predictable pattern with his movies. I enjoyed "Unbreakable", but I know many people were disappointed because they were expecting another "The Sixth Sense." It was probably about halfway through "Signs" when I realized that the aliens were not the focus, but it was the family and especially the father's inner struggle. The aliens were just a catalyst for a very important point, one that my wife and I happen to agree with. At least that is what I got out of "Signs." Even the title has a double meaning.
