Signing up for Jedi Training Academy - when?

Hi,

We will be at DHS on January 5th. We usually do the mad rush to TSM at rope drop, but my son wants to sign up for the Jedi Training Academy. I have heard you need to do this right away - so what do people do? That and then TSM, or the other way around? Where exactly do you go to sign up?
All advice is appreciated!

If you are doing it during Star Wars weekends you will want to sign up the second the park opens. On other weekends I would not wait much past 9:30-10:00 AM but even that is pushing it. Personally I would go before TSM as registration will close as soon at they are full. TSM will be there all day, everyday .Sign up is at the Sounds Dangerous building. It is also my understanding that each child must be present when you sign up. (ie dad can't go by himself and sign up the kids)

My son did the Jedi Training Academy a few months ago, and it was awesome!! We split up - I did the mad dash for TSMM fastpasses, and my husband and son went over to sign up for JTA (which is by the Sounds Dangerous building, as someone already said). Your child DOES have to be present, because they will ask him a couple of questions. You will be assigned a time to come back (if they aren't busy, you can choose which time you'd like), and they'll give you a piece of paper to bring when you come back.

This was one of the highlights of our trip - we're huge Star Wars fans and my son absolutely LOVED it! They had a lot of young jedis that day, so Darth Vader and Darth Maul both made appearances (I'm not sure if this is typical or not). Have fun, and if you have any other questions, please let me know!

Make it the first thing you do after rope drop. The children you are signing up must be with you when you sign them up. If you go straight there, you should get into a show. If you wait, you might get on the waiting list at best.

We made 8AM reservations at Hollywood and Vine to be in the park (and closer to Sounds Dangerous for the sign up) at 9 when the rope drops. We walked out of Hollywood and Vine at 8:50 to find a line extending back from the rope (over in front of 50's Primetime) and CM's with signs for Jedi Training Academy "line up". The CM said the new procedure is to start lining up guests at 8:30 when they are allowed in the park, and then CM's walk everyone in an orderly fashion over to the sign up at Sounds Dangerous. We joined the end of the line at 8:50 and the kids were in the 2:20 show (and yes - as others already said - kids must be present for sign-up) and this was on a very slow week at WDW. I guess it depends on the day, but shows do fill up quickly so I would definitely recommend getting there early.

Yoda, so if we are trying to get the DS signed up for it during star wars weekend we pretty much need to be at the park at rope down and head right to the sign up location at sounds dangerous correct?

Absolutely. From what I remember they do larger and sometimes more frequent classes during SWW, but the demand is so high that you must do it first thing.

You are the BEST Richard!!! My DS wanted to do it when we were there in Sept but we missed out. Of course I promised him he could do it this trip and totally forgot it was Star Wars weekend!

We did this last June during SWW. Everyone in our group...except for me and kiddos...went to TSM to grab FP's and wait for us there. I took the kiddos to get signed up for the JTA. We were at the park at 7:00 AM. They opened the park early..around7:30 (this was to be an 8 AM opening I think). We went straight there and with the rest of the crowd we were still able to get in the second group...which was 10 ish I believe. It was def. before the SWW parade because the kids were allowed to walk in the parade as well...so that was cool and if you are there during SWW you might ask about that. We had no idea when we signed up.

From what I have heard the first class of kids get to walk in the parade. I have no idea if that is correct, so don't take my words as definitive of the subject.

What times are the classes on a normal day and Star Wars weekend? We will be there for one of the weekends in June and I can't decide wether to avoid it or go and enjoy it. My boys are 5 and 7, is this too young?
