Sidewalk to nowhere expansion??

Question: Let's say they do build a draw bridge over the canal and finish the path to GF and Poly. What about the other side - is there a way to make a walkway to connect MK to TTC (or MK to CR to TTC)?? This would make a complete pedestrian loop, and this, I would imagine would save them some $$ by having lots of people walking to their resort and TTC instead of taking the monorail or boat. This may also get more people to stay in the deluxe resorts. I know that when I think about going deluxe, I only consider BLT or CR because I can walk to the MK (where we spend most of our time). Staying at the others means I still have to rely on the monorail or boat, which means lines and for me that kind of defeats some of the purpose of going deluxe.
That a LOOOOONG walk from the MK to the TTC. I don't think enough people would ever attempt it to impact any cost savings for Disney.

Really?? I guess I'll have to get out a map. In my head, it doesn't seem like it would be that far. Oh well, the budget says we'll be staying at POFQ in Dec. anyway, so it's Disney buses for us!

Assuming you were to walk under the monorail track...

Roughly 1.1 miles from TTC to MK on the Contemporary side
Roughly 1.5 miles from TTC to MK on the Poly/Grand side

No, no . . . quite alright!! Not being a "local" I only get there maybe once a year, so I'm not as familiar with the "non-park" parts of WDW. So thanks for the info! :) I am a walker, and am always looking for ways to walk to where ever I'm going - especially if it means avoiding long lines or a crowded bus! :D When looking out over SSL it doesn't appear like it would be that far, but when you take into consideration the existing roads, monorail tracks, and the lagoon itself, it's not as simple as it looks. And, you don't want to be walking too close to that lagoon - you might have a unique "meet and greet" experience with Louis or one of his gator friends! But, that's another thread . . .

The walk from MK to the TTC is doable. But not so much with kids, or after a long day in the park, or in the brutal Fla sun. It's hardly a viable alternative to the monorail and ferries.

I could see alot of people walking when the ferries get backed up, but not many people from poly making the hike. And I doubt many people will want to walk back after a long day.

You are right, it should not be too expensive but what is there incentive to do it?

Incentive? How about more guests staying at the GF or Poly b/c of the accesiblity -- or ppl that will buy into the GF DVC. I personally hate waiting for a bus at closing time of park; when you've been at it all day and all you want to do is get home, it's the worst feeling to walk to your bus stop and see the line 30minutes long! There's something to be said about being able to go where you want to, when you want, and not always having to rely on Disney transportation. Because of that, we almost always stay at Swan/Dolphin, Boardwalk or Contemporary -- all resorts that have a walking path to at least one park. I can say with confidence we'd pay the extra $$ it costs to stay at GF if we were able to walk to/from MK on our own watch.

Is GF having problems filling rooms as it is? In not, your point is moot.

The only way to do this would be to go under the water bridge with the rest of the traffic. Not sure how much room is really under there.
On another note: If they did put a draw bridge in just like the one at Epcot for the Illuminations fireworks barges, they could easily rent bicycles from GF and Poly. Getting a complete loop would make for a great jogging trail in the mornings before it gets congested at the entrance to MK.

You can already walk from the GF to TTC - have done it many times (especially from TTC to GF)
Sure you can, but we were talking about walking from the MK to the TTC, which does not have a walkway and would require you walking on the roadway underneath the water bridge....or swimming! Neither of which is condoned by Disney security.

GF isn't 100% all of the time. Since GF is more expensive than any Boardwalk hotel, or The Contemporary, if they could convince a few more vacationers to stay there, that's more $$ in Disneys pocket. And how about that huge DVC they're building over there? They'll haveta fill those rooms....
