Sidewalk to nowhere expansion??

I wonder if they could tunnel under that short section of water? That would eliminate the need for maintaining security there while the water pageant is coming and going. I'm sure they could watch the tunnel via cameras, and send someone down there if there if there are any issues. There's plenty of room on either side for ADA compliant ramps.

Its very difficult to tunnel in Florida. They would have to put in a serious set of pumps and drainage to keep it dry.

You missed the point completely. It CAN be done.

And probably for way more money than Disney would be willing to spend (or could get guests to spend on more paving stones). There are other issues as well, but just because it was done in a different set of soil conditions doesn't mean it can be done in the same way or at a similar cost structure in the situation at hand. It may very well be technically possible, but realistically and probable? Don't think so.

Walk around the World was an incentive for guests to purchase those red brick tiles all over the MK dock areas.
You see the bricks at the GF wedding pavilion. You see granite tiles at TTC. Then someone killed the whole idea with no real explanation. Manually operated drawbridges as seen in the Netherlands (through-out Amsterdam) would be a great idea. Really cost effective and could be swing bridges rather than lift or cantilevered -- and then name the bridge after Michelle Obama and her fight for lighter weight children.

As much as I do enjoy the water pagent, if it had to be sacrificed to extend this sidewalk, I would be all for it. The music is catchy with the synthensizers, but maybe they could come up with another form of entertainment for seven sea lagoon/bay lake resort guest. Maybe some color changing fountains in the middle of Bay Lake and SSL, synchronized to a disney medley. Then there would not be a need to get back in the canal.

My brick is maybe 100-200 metres to the Grand Floridian.
The walk is not going to be completed after all these years, but it is a shame.

I believe a draw bridge would be inexpensive to build and maintain.

One thing that is being forgotten about that canal is that the Water Pageant isn't the only reason for its existence. It's also the only access to the Rivers of America via the lock behind Big Thunder. When the riverboat has to go to the drydock north of the Contemporary for refurb, it's towed out the canal and across the Lagoon and Bay Lake.

I would also presume that there might be other reasons to have access for other boats to get onto the Rivers of America easily.

Building a permanent non-moving bridge would cut off that access.

Hey don't be so quick to suggest giving up the Electrical Water Pageant! Many of us love it and it is one of those only-at-WDW types of things. I am sure they could have the Pageant AND a drawbridge if they wanted to.

Field of Dreams ..... if you build it they will come.
If Disney built it people will use it.
Fewer people on the resort monorail.

Mind you I give this project a probability slightly over zero. Ten years or so ago instead of building a drawbridge they built a little cul de sac

what is their incentive to do it?
  • Easy access to the MK from the GF and Poly.
  • A crowd-beating option. After Wishes, wave at the people in the one-and-a-half hour monorail line as you leisurely stroll to your resort!
  • A jogging path across the whole of SSL, for the benefit of all luxury resorts and DVC's.
  • New, fun pathways to explore in one of the last undeveloped areas of SSL.
  • better access to one of the finest places to watch the water pageant.
  • Romantic evening strolls!

I have yet to see one item in that list that will make Disney money. Come up with that and it will get built tomorrow.
