I have a bad cough and sneeze daily on occassion it might be just alergies but i think its a viral infection we leave in six days i hope it goes away. But if it is alergies i am staying at the worst place to be the Polynesian! I am going no matter what but will it ruin our trip?

Staying at the Poly will have no greater effect on you than staying anywhere else ... you'll still be in Florida, and we'll still be chock-full of allergens.

I do hope you feel better soon!

1. Drink LOTS of water. Lots. Did I say lots? That thins everything out so your body can eliminate it easier. TMI, I know, but really, it is one of the most effective things you can do and it's cheap!
2. Get a good antihistimine, in case it is allergies. I prefer Zyrtec (or the generic equivalent). Claritin works great for some folks. If you go with the Zyrtec, take it before you go to sleep at night - it can make you a bit drowsy initially, this way you just sleep through that part and wake up in the morning ready to go.
3. Get some zync losenges (ColdEeze or something similiar). This can help cut the duration of a cold, if it is one.
4. I find Mucinex DM works fabulous for the coughs I get. And I get a lot. Just have bad lungs I guess.

I am also fighting the start of what feels like a cold - and we leave on Friday  But I am doing all of the above (esp #1) and feel like I am getting the upper hand.

Oh - and if the cough is a regular thing, esp at night, go to your doctor and get checked for asthma (potentially allergy induced). Many people develop it as an adult.

Hope you feel better and have a great time. If you're not going to have a car during your stay, make sure you stock up and bring whatever meds you think you might need while at WDW, because they have a limited selection and are very expensive.

I also take airborne before my flights, I know some folks say it does nothing, but I believe it does work because the last year or so I haven't gotten sick after flying where on almost every trip I was getting sick.

Quick...go see your Doctor!!

He/She can examine you and determine exactly what you have and can prescribe something to cure it. It usually takes 5 days for these things to go away once you start treatments so you have a short window.

I once spent 3 days in bed at The Polynesian Resort with a 104º+ temperature. My family did the parks without me. They video taped everything but it just wasn't the same.

On my last visit (Jan 08) I got the worst head cold of my life. I was miserable but suffered thru it all. You can see it in the pictures that my eyes are all red and swollen. I looked awful and felt that way too. Just take lots of meds with you, drink lots of water and get some rest. Hope you feel better and have a great trip.

Benadryl Cold and Sinus...nothing works better than the old standby:lol:. It's cheap, and covers allergies and colds! Wash it down w/ a cup of espresso and you're good to go! Hope you feel better:wave:

That is so depressing.

If it's viral (as most colds are), nothing will make it go away. Antibiotics won't work. But, they will be able to prescribe something to relieve symptoms.
If I am congested, Afrin No Drip Severe Congestion helps ALOT!!! I also like Tylenol Cold for daytime ad the nightnight one helps me sleep good so I feel more rested in the am.

I am battling allergies like crazy right now too , so is DS. The main thing that I would worry about is that the allergies can turn into a sinus infection. We leave in 9 days so I am just keeping my fingers crossed.
We all got the flu midtrip last year in March while at WDW. That really stunk! We left a day ealry it was so bad.
Check with your doctor. Hope you feel better.

Yup, it's fabulous! And at least you only have to choke down the pills twice a day :animwink: The other good thing about it is that I generally don't need to take any other cold medicine when I take the Mucinex - it seems to thin everything out to the point where I'm not bothered by it.

But I have found that while the Mucinex keeps most (if not all) symptoms at bay for me, I sometimes have to take it for 2 weeks or more. If I stop taking it too early, the symptoms come back quickly. And the stuff ain't cheap.

I used to get bronchitis with every cold, and it would usually grow into pneumonia at least once a year. Now I start taking Mucinex DM at the first sign of a cold, and rarely have an issue!

And no, I don't work for the makers of Mucinex
