Should I or shouldn't I??

Would like a little feedback here, if you please. I have a new video camera but I am unsure as to whether I should take it. I have video-ed some polocrosse games and an airshow, and what I have noticed is I miss alot of the "atmosphere" of the event because I am trying so hard to keep everything in frame. I have a good digital camera that has made 2 trips with me to DL and WDW. I did not seem to have this problem with it. So to make a long story short, (I know, too late) what should I do???
Thanks for listening.:veryconfu

Sure, bring it, but when you use it, just let it roll. Capture what you capture, don't think too much about getting a perfect shot.Live in that moment, and let that video reflect it, because that's how you'll want to remember those moments when watching the video anyway.

Take it - When I'm at WDW I will usually watch the parades, fireworks etc twice - first time still camera, second time video - twice the memories !!

Obviously, anyone who has seen any of my Disney video collection in my signature can guess that I would highly recommend bringing your video camera. However, I can totally understand where you're coming from. When I'm videotaping either a ride, a fireworks, or a parade, I don't get to enjoy it as much as if I just sit (or stand) there and watching it.

My solution? Do something that you want to record multiple times. When we first rode Expedition Everest during the preview, none of us videotaped it. We really wanted to experience the whole thing, plus, we want to know what to expect. Knowing this, it will make us videotape the attraction a little bit better on subsequent rides.

The same with fireworks. This is especially true if you have a tripod and want to get the best "framing" of the fireworks. You need to know how high (and wide, as in the case of Wishes) the fireworks display will be. This will dictate where you stand and where to aim your camera. Too low and you might miss the high fireworks. Too high and you'll miss the low-lying effects. So you should just view it first without videotaping. This will give you an idea of what to do when you do videotape it next time.

Of course, this will work if you are visiting long enough to do a few things more than once.

I've been wondering the same thing. I got a new video camera in April since we were planning this trip. Now I've been thinking about leaving it home. I video'd in 1998 and the kids love watching it esp my dd who was a baby at the time. I think I'll take it along and if I find I'm missing out I'll skip using it.

Thanks for the advice from the pp!

Take the camera. My brother takes his video camera every trip and he has been 25+ times. Sure some days it never leaves the case but other times he is constantly taping. He also makes sure to pass the camera so that he can be in some of the shots as well. You'd hate it if you got home and thought "oh if I'd only brought the camera when such and such happened."

It depends on how long your trip is in my opinion.
For me,I find that if I bring my camera I'm enjoying the park less. Always filming or taking pictures I'm looking at everything through a view finder rather than taking in the park as a whole. Maybe it's just me.
I'll be going to Disney around the 7th or 8th of November. Not sure, it's a business trip and I've only got one day at the park. A tease to myself.
We'll be going on a family vacation in April and I doubt that trip I'll be taking the camera. Less to carry is always nice. Although having the pics and film is fantastic to look back on.
BUT....that's just for me...I think you should choose the pro and cons of it for youself.
Either way, have a safe trip and enjoy yourself! And if you take pics, I'd like to see...

Should I or shouldn't I?

I know exactly what you mean but just take the video with you some days, leave it behind others.

Its so great to watch them back on your return, we have hours of pleasure from ours - and it puts you well in the mood for your next trip!!! :animwink:

Have a great holiday :sohappy:

we are going in 6 days and i am using our digital camera and if we want to use the cam corder part we can if not just pics. I would only use a cam cord for shows or parades maybe have a locker you can put it in with bags or something like that:confused:

I bring the camera, and then before heading out, decide whether this is a camera lugging expedition or sans camera expedition. I've been caught both ways, sometimes wishing I had brung it and sometimes saying why did I bring it. I usually consider the weather as a big factor with cloudy days a less likely time to take pictures. Also for usually best contrast pictures, early or late in the day gets the best sun.

Thank you for all your replys. I am thinking I will leave it as my DD and I both have good digitals with video. I love taking pictures as the "lens" time is brief. This is a 6 day trip , but I want to have the whole experience as we used to live near DL when I was young. To immerse yourself in Disney is so emotional for me due to the memories that I don't want to change that. I will post pics when I return!!

You do lose out seeing everything going on when you are taking video.
I dont mind taking it though since I am one of the lucky ones to visit every other weekend :)

I actually usually only take my digital camera now. It also takes camcorder quality video so I only have to hold one camera.

Have a great time!!!!!

It would be dumb to not bring your digital camera. Family vacation videos dont have to be perfect. Trust me, you will regret not taking at least some footage while you are there. I wish my parents had taken more.
