Let me start out by saying... I am NOT a roller coaster rider. I do NOT do big DROPS. I can ride everything else. I can go fast, spin around, :p go backwards, etc. Just no HUGE drops. I have never ridden Space Mountain either... same fear! What do you think? Can I handle these 2 rides? I'd like to ride them with my hubby and my 6 year old... in 2 MORE DAYS!!!

Easy. EE is certainly a thrill ride, but it's not a stomach-in-your-throat coaster that leaves you dizzy and ill. Very well worth it.

P.S. And while you're down there, you must get the nerve and go on Space Mountain. It, too, is more thrill and themeing and less of a gut-wrenching coaster!

I am just like you. Flip me, spin me, invert me, but dont you dare drop me. Rockin Rollercoaster is one of my favorites, b/c it does everything but drop me. All of that said, please ride Space Mountain. I did not ride it for several years for the exact same reason. I finally rode it and there are no great drops. The drop on Splash Mountain does more to my stomach than anything on Space Mountain.

About Everest, I am in the same quandry that you are. The themeing and whole ride looks great. The reverse part does not bother me, it is that one drop out of the Mountain. We go in May and my wife will not ride it and my daughter is two. So if I get the courage I will have to ride it by myself. Let us know if you decide, but definitely ride space mountain, there really are no great drops.

There is only one big drop on EE (80') and it is over before you know it. The rest of the ride is a pretty cool coaster. Space Mountain really doesn't have any big drops at all. Also the top speed of Space Mountain is a rip roaring 28 mph. The forces in Space mountain are generated by incredibly tight turns.

There is a cure for fear of big drops and its name is Tower of Terror.

Up until a few years ago I really hated drops. I avoided ToT for years and finally got peer pressured into going on it by another forum member (thanks Slade!). After a few times on ToT I really began to love the "air time" feeling produced by the drop. There still is that little twinge of fear but nothing like what is used to be. So strap yourself into ToT for an afternoon hold your arms up and scream like a 12 year old girl at Backstreet Boys concert and your fear will go away.

I've never been afraid of drops in a ride, but have always been afraid of falling. Taking tight rope walking lessons has taught me to face the fear of falling.

I have also heard that skydiving is an almost instant cure for a fear of heights and falling. It is a little extreme but sometimes you need to swat a fly with a sledge hammer.

Bottom Line is...if you can do Splash Mountain drop then EE drop is a breeze. The other major difference between the two drops is that there is no slow climb preceding it. So, you don't have this buildup of anticipation waiting to crest a hill before you plunge. You simply go out the side of the mountain and it truly is over before you know it. I found by the second or third time I was taking it with my hands up in the air not holding on at all.

EE is such a great ride, it would be a shame to let that little fear cheat you out of one of Disney's instant classics! Try it once, if it really gets to you, you never have to do it again.

I'm not a big roller coaster fan, but I've ridden Everest twice and loved it. Can't wait to go back.:sohappy:

Space Mountain is much more jerky and I've had neck and back problems after riding that. :(

ToT is great! One of my favorite rides in WDW - just can't get my DS to try it though.

Before I went to Disney World for the first time, I hated rollercoasters. I live near a Six Flags and the rides there are so un-themed that I had no interest in going on them. Scary stuff there. Then I went to Disney and HAD to try everything. The rides are all so amazing that its a thrill to go on them all to me. I'd say you should at least muster the courage and try them once. I bet you'd love them! I HATE drops, and I even rode the ToT. :) Good luck with the Yeti.

Indeed :D

I fell so often during training and that has helped me when I need to go up a ladder or similar.

I was still sacred every time I went on the tightrope, but I was able to face and control the fear.

i was exactly the same as you scared of the "big" rides like splash, thunder mountain, RNRC,space, etc but i got over my fear when i was dragged onto those rides now i go on them all except for RNRC -dont go to MGM that much and wont wait in the queue and space mountain i dont like that ride ive never liked it. as for splash thats my all time favourite cannot be beat its one of my fave rides in MK and with BTMRR i like that i went on that loads of times on my last holiday. i even use to be scared of test track  until my cousins took me on it in the single riders line but luckily i was put with my cousin now when im in epcot i ride test track non-stop. i love the feel you get when your in a log on splash and you go over the edge that feeling cannot be beat!!!!!

now i cannot wait to ride everest just to see what it is like and i have to wait a year and a half :) .

all i can suggest to you is that you can watch people on everest from the bridge by where tarzan rocks  used to be or watch the ride videos circulating on this site which capture it really well.

OK OK... I'll do it... Probably...maybe... I think! I'll let you know!

I have a fear of rollar coasters...

First time I got on Space Mountain...my palms were sweating...I almost turned around and left...(I was also a little nervous of Big Thundar mountain). I mean, it was a long, heart thumping wait....but I wanted to be able to say that I rode on everything at Disney.

I finally get into the rocket...and wouldn't you know, I was in the first seat. I kept thinking...what am I doing?...Why am I doing this to myself. When the ride started moving...i was scared.

When the ride was over...I thought, that wasn't bad...got right back in line.

Think of it as Big Thundar Mountain in the dark....only, a little more jerky. No big drops...a couple of dips.

I can say that, for myself, the drop was my biggest worry prior to riding EE. It is not as radical a drop as it appears, it's actually smooth and fast and it's over before you know it. DS10 and I rode 18 times in a week... I think I can recommend at least riding once. Since you'll be a single rider, the waits are short and you may end up going more than just once :D
