Pixar used to have an uninterrupted string of hits. Lately it has been a string of flops and it doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon. These movies are making the Good Dinosaur look watchable. There is something very wrong at Disney.
So far there was exactly one Pixar movie that did not do well recently and that was Lightyear

Wrong. Pixar used to be a sure fire hit with everything they released but that all changed after Up. Cars 2, Cars 3, The Good Dinosaur, Monsters University, Onward, Luca, Turning Red & Lightyear were all clunkers.

I hate to agree…but you are factually correct.

The annual Pixar release used to be an appointment at the movie theater. Always first week.

Don’t even know when the next one is coming anymore?
Elio is the next movie about a 11 year old boy that stumbles into outer space and has adventures. Same art style as Luca and Turning Red. The alien design looks like Strange World. Another Pixar classic in the making. <rolls eyes>

If you are going by your own thoughts on Onward, Luca, and Turning Red that is opinion… and I assume you are since you did not Mention Soul… unless you forget that all film is subjective… we will never know how those films would do in theaters in a non pandemic year…I liked Onward and Turning Red… I did not care for Luca but there is no denying that I feel like I am in the minority here…most people I know love that movie including in real life

I said recently… because most people would agree that The Good Dinosaur and The Cars sequels were not well received… although Cars was more of a merchandise play and in the regard it succeeded…. Any studio would love to have Pixar’s track record

I guess we can take Soul and Luca out of the picture since they were never had a theatrical run.

Neither did Turning Red…. plus Onwards run was cut short by the pandemic. My last movie I saw in theaters before lockdowns was Invisible Man….which was a week before Onward open…..and I remembered people in my area were already being cautious about Covid then

So what will be Elemental's excuse when it killed at the box office? It isn't tracking very high.

I went to see Spiderman last night. The theater was almost full. At the end people actually applauded and with expletives of "Wow!" They were very excited after seeing it. This was after a huge weekend take. Will that be the same for Elemental?

It's an original movie without a built-in fanbase that got mixed reviews. So people on the fence about seeing it may opt to wait for streaming. It's also been poorly marketed and given a horrible release date, sandwiched in between major blockbusters with preexisting fanbases.

That's not a "excuse" that would justify PIxar's handling of Elemental, but those are the reasons I'm 95% sure it will flop.

Sadly, I'm afraid you're right.

I ran errands today. At the two big box stores I went to they had giant Spiderman toy and clothing displays on the ends of the aisles, and the stuff was well picked over already. I could not find a single Elemental toy or t-shirt for sale. Elemental didn't exist in the stores.

That would have been unheard of for a new Pixar film in June until just a few years ago.

I hate to say this, but since Elemental is going to be unfairly flop and if Elio and Inside Out become flops, then it’s the end of Pixar. I’m sorry I said that and I know it’s annoying, but that’s how I feel right now.😢

Right now the odds of that happening are 3720 to 1.
