Should Disney Buy MGM?

No, but from what I heard this guy actually turned out to be right about many things in the past like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning in Spider-Man 3. He's not just some guy on Patreon. He's proven many times to be an insider for Marvel and Disney. At the moment, studios are probably bidding to see which one will buy MGM.
I thought we were talking about anti-trust being dead in the U.S.?

I posted a link that listed 46 anti-trust cases initiated by the Federal Government last year. And the new administration is likely to initiate even more.

Some guy saying stuff on the internet doesn't change facts. It doesn't matter how right he was about other stuff; actual evidence shows he's wrong now with regard to anti-trust.

With regard to buying MGM... who knows?

Well, from that article that you sent me, I never saw any more anti-trust cases beyond December 28th 2020. As for the conspiracy stuff, here's the Mega-Corp trope on TV Tropes. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MegaCorp

That's why I think if Disney buys MGM, anti-trust laws would get to the point where they're invoked or dead when it benefits mega-corporations. They all do it through lobbying or having employees in their governments.

That's because the link was for cases in just 2020. There are already 2 cases for 2021.

You keep avoiding this fact that there are continual anti-trust cases the government initiates. That clearly refutes your conspiracy theory that there aren't.

TV Tropes and public anyone-can-answer sites are not evidence. In fact, TV Tropes catalogue **fictional** clichés.

Money does buy influence, but only so far. Otherwise there would be little to no anti-trust cases. But there are. I keep pointing that out to you, but you keep ignoring it preferring "sources" which aren't factual evidence.

It has always been MGM studios for some of us 😉
Sorry. People theorise that on Youtube all the time. I won't post any conspiracy theories on here again. You know Daniel Richtman was right about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning on his Patreon page. So I'll keep my opinion that he'll be right about Disney possibly owning James Bond, Stargate and Rockey soon to myself.

Sorry what ?????

I just meant that a lot of us still call it by MGM studios as that was what we knew it as . No need to go all Q-anon.

I think we will see consolidation in every industry coming out of the pandemic. I do think that Disney will acquire some things, Comcast will acquire some things, Apple will acquire some things, Amazon will acquire some things etc., Big question is who acquires what? And more importantly, what they do with the acquisitions.

MGM makes sense for Disney. It would give them a back catalogue to compete with HBO Max's classic Time Warner lineup. In general they'd be able to offer more adult oriented films on streaming (Bond, Stargate, Rocky, Legally Blonde, Pink Panther, Hot Tub Time Machine, Robocop). They'd also then own all of the rights to two of their bigger TV shows: Fargo (FX) and Handmaid's Tale (Hulu).

Outside of the just rounding out their streaming offerings. I wonder how active MGM would be post-acquisition. Disney condensed Fox down to 20th Century Studios and Searchlight. It makes me think a company like Apple would be more aggressive given their lack of a back catalogue.

I could see one of the tech companies like Apple or Amazon buying MGM. As the studios go to their own streaming services the tech companies will find themselves having to produce more content themselves and having MGMs back catalogue and a few current IPs, as well as the cache of an old Hollywood studio, would be a good move

Rumors circulating that Amazon is going to buy MGM and it would certainly make sense getting that back catalog for Prime.

Interesting that is comes on the heels of the planned Warner Bros and Discovery union (which will likely lead to HBO Max and Discovery+ being merged). We're starting to see the consolidation that will weed out smaller streamers.

Picture in one's mind, Amazon's awful awful Prime Video interface.

Now, add 4,000 titles.

I think the interface for Disney plus is almost as bad. At least here in the UK you have to guess what category something is in the search function and you get movies like Aladdin and Die Hard in the same catagory

Severely overload in my opinion.

Also, Amazon are going to have to back down and Bind films release in the theatres.
