Should all character "autographs" be a stamp to save time?

Autographs are just part of the deal, as is being hot and sweaty in the costume. Mickey isn't going to appear headless just because we feel sorry for the character on a 90 degree day. As for the kids who can't get in line before the character leaves, not everyone gets a trophy in little league either. We do our best to get our kids pictures with characters but sometimes we just miss them. We say "ah gosh darn it, maybe next time" and we move on. The autographs are important because it is all part of the magic. If it went away would it be the end of magic? No. My little girl loves the castle so what if we just cut out main street so all the people standing in the way aren't there anymore and we can just get to the castle?
I dont go to the spas, horseback ride, or play tennis. But you dont see me on here saying to shut it down because it diverts resources from things I think are important.

I dont get autographs either, but why someone needs to go on a message board and try to take away from what is important to others is beyond me.

But Im the bad guy and why we cant have nice things...

in case you've never been there... it's a lot more than just Belle "reading" a book to kids lol
I have been there. Was there in February. But thanks for attempting to discredit... News flash. You failed. I said it was semi personal for a reason. Yes the interaction with the cast member is personal and yes one child who plays Beast gets to interact really well with Belle. But most children's interactions involve a super quick picture and handing out a bookmark... No autographs, not even that glorious stamp... Remember not ever child gets to participate especially when they pack that place.

And again, you have to wait usually an hour for that. Far longer than many of the M&Gs where that horribleness of people taking 5 seconds to sign an autograph is taking place.

I guess that would be my other question to you. You say you are concerned about other children getting to meet characters. Then why not forego the picture and just get the autograph. It often takes far longer to get a picture than an autograph. The character has to pose. The kid has to pose. Often multiple are taken... The list goes on of you want it.

To the OP: Everyone who has posted here has their opinion and so do you but calling them "rude" when they have a different opinion than you and not attacking you personally seems childish to me. I'm not a mod but constant name-calling should not be tolerated on this forum. Some people do post on threads with sarcasm but from what I've seen, it's never personal and should never be.

Back on the subject: I pretty much agree with everyone who says autographs work and that a sticker and a stamp will not suffice. A stamp with ink will fade away eventually and it won't work for other products like signing shirts or hats. You can buy stickers anywhere but you can't buy autographs (Well, technically you can buy autographed merchandise and memorabilia but they're all so expensive in the hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars.) so just giving something that can be easily found in a general retail store is just not interesting and creative. You can't assume that a stamp or sticker will work for everyone but at the same time, some people are not crazy about character autographs in general. By the way, it's not just children who like those autograph books, there are first time visitors and character fanatics who are not young children and love the characters like they do. I have three autograph books myself but I don't care what negative feedback I may get because each book represents a different trip and different memories I will always cherish.

If you really didn't want to take away time from other people trying to the meet the character, I would think that some would even argue maybe you should consider skip the characters altogether. All I can say is how you handle the M&Gs is entirely up to you. If your kids are not crazy about autographs and just want pictures, that's fine. If they just want an autograph but no picture, that's fine, too.

I just feel sorry for the characters that have to do this in costume and I feel sorry for those kids who can't get in line before the character leaves due to time lost having to sign autographs

They don't have to do it do they? The cast members that are in costume and sign choose to do so on their own free will. When the characters leave they always come back. I feel sorry for any kid that misses out on anything as well. Unfortunately the world isnt perfect and everyone can't always get what they want.

There is no perfect system. Your way is more efficient I agree. It isn't as personable though as others have stated. If someone is standing in line to get a cartoon characters signature I'm guessing they want as personal an experience as possible. We are trained at a young age that an autograph is something of value. A sports star, singer, actor, etc. these characters are celebs to kids and that what they seek. Pictures have become more important with the facebook generation and sigs may not hold as much importance as they once did. As this is handed down you very well could get our wish in the next 10 years or so

Anyone can do a stamp of Tigger's name. But only Tigger can sign. Tats the cool part for autograph collectors. That and the interaction. Queen or Hearts made my nephew kiss her hand before she would sign, lol.

I think that for people who want this stuff, it should be the "real" character signing it. IMO.

I don't do autographs and the only characters I was ever really tickled to meet were Homer and Marge, lol.

The pillowcase thing is nice for a cruise maybe but what is the point if getting that and not even getting to meet the characters? How is that fun? Part of the fun is meeting the "celebrity."

You do get to meet the characters on the cruise. You just don't ask them for autographs right there, that's what the pillowcase is for.

No one get their feelings hurt, come on. We're just talking about a person dressed in a costume pretending to be a cartoon character. We can have different opinions on this!

Let's not get all crazy like some of the people on the Disboards. :)

Characters do sign on the cruise. And, from what I understand, most of the WDW concierges can arrange to obtain a character signature for you as well.

Yes I know they get character interaction, but I stand by my point that it is a lot more fun/personal to watch the characters sign the autograph book. When I think of a returned pillowcase, I picture that stereotype you always see in movies of an actor signing a huge stack of pictures like a robot. I'd guess they have those signed by some poor cm(s) in a work room somewhere in the ship signing away without even getting the satisfaction of making a child smile. As I child I feel I would have known that it wasnt really signed by Mickey because I didnt see it happen.

We don't do the M&G's anymore because my kids have outgrown them, but I say no on the stamp also. Much more special to have a real signature, no matter how it comes out. I also don't see it taking anymore time than stamping, which I believe would turn the experience into something totally generic. I'm picturing little Jenny with Donald... ok "smile," stamp, "NEXT!" That's what it would end up being like.
