Short trips...splurge, scrimp, or same as always?

When you take short trips to WDW, do you...

Splurge...since the costs don't seem quite as extreme when going for a shorter period.

Scrimp...because you'd rather save it for a big trip and can get by with less if it's only a few days.

Same...i.e. it just feels more comfortable to stick with your usual trip approach, regardless of trip duration.

yes, yes, and yes!

If you check out the title of my latest trip report you will see why! :)

Splurge - We originally planned on splurging for our 2 day, 1 night Resort Only trip last week (well, sort of - we usually stay at Deluxe Resorts but this time we were staying with out any discount other then AAA, like free dining)
Scrimp - My DH told me that he wanted to take me into the park! I could pick which one - then I started to scrip b/c I said, we probably will need another night and booked at AOA and also, we are paying out of pocket for all food/dining so I became budget conscience.
Same - in the end, we ended up in 2 parks, and did Disney how we normally do it!! HA! Well, I tried! :)

That is too funny how it worked out as a planning trifecta like this. Either way, it also is a great representation of how you could incorporate these spending concepts in different areas of your trip so that you Splurge, Scrimp and Same...it sounds like a game show! :D And that could be our key- finding the blend of this.

We are all over the map on this one. We are 12 hours away, but when we have AP's we average one trip every 40 or so days. Almost (but not quite) once a month.
Since tickets are such a big chunk of change at WDW, it's the best part of an AP to me - just deciding to head down whenever, and seeing what is available and what you're willing to spend. My absolute favorite trip now is when we just get in the car & call on the way.

The AP definitely affords that level of convenience and spontaneity for it all...i.e. just being able to pick up and go b/c you've already got that cost covered + it often offers a slightly better discount on your room. That would be a blast though, being able to decide right then and call while on the way. If we were doing that today...I could hear my girls now bickering back and forth "NO- I want the Ariel room! NO- I want a bunk bed!" :D Ahhhhh- such rough decisions to have to make! :)
