The wife and I are in the process of purchasing a DVC resale. Closing should be taking place in mid-September. What's the likelihood of being able to book a six night stay in a 2BR at either OKW (Home Resort), BCV, VWL, or BLT for the week of 12/1/13? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

OKW has some nights open but not all.

SSR has all nights open.

VWL has only two nights open.

BLT only has one to two nights open depending on view.

BCV only has one open night.

BWV only has one night open across its various views.

I think SSR gets a bad rap sometimes because it is so large. When we first purchased our points, we had a short turnaround too and all we could get was SSR. We were warned about all kinds of things, but honestly it was great and now that they have refurbished the rooms I'm sure its even better. We were on the back end in the paddock and it was quiet, very little trouble with getting a bus, and it really wasn't a terrible walk to the front of the resort for a quick service breakfast.

It also gets a bad rap because of its location. Lots of people want to be close to at least one of the parks. With Bay Lake, GF and the soon-to-be Poly, you're a boat or monorail ride away from the MK. Heck from Bay Lake you can walk! Boat ride away to Mk from Wilderness Lodge as well. And a boat or short walk away from Epcot and the Studios for Boardwalk & Beach Club guests. There's no "cool" way to get to Animal Kingdom from the AKV, but it's still close and has a pretty decent and dedicated bus line.

Meanwhile, SSR and OKW are boating and walking distance to Downtown Disney (and for OKW, that's a bit of a stretch, because while there is a walkway it's a bit of a trek especially if you're on the other side of the resort). For people who like feeling a little more secluded, it's great. For people who are shopaholics, awesome. Also great for people who want to do other things besides the parks from dawn till dusk, as you're close to many restaurants, DisneyQuest, Splitsville. It was great when Pleasure Island was still open, but since I'm now a dad it would have been a good long while before I imbibed at Adventurers' Club again anyway. You're close to the AMC multiplex, Raglan Road, Planet Hollywood, Cirque du Soleil...so there are things to do. And yet it's far enough away that it doesn't feel like you're in the middle of the madness.
But if you DO want to hit the parks from dawn till dusk, SSR seems like a looooooooong ride away. Especially with the multiple bus stops (I'd recommend having a car if you stay here and maybe only use the buses when you're going to the MK).

You are absolutely right. I should put a disclaimer in that my husband and I don't have kids so to us the bus ride wasn't that big of a deal. With kids...it might have been a little more complicated. Good point!

Stupid babies ruin everything. :jawdrop:

SSR is our home resort, and I do like it a lot, but until the kids are older, I'm always going to gun for BLT, BWV, BCV...someplace within walking distance of at least one of the parks. Our first trip with our oldest daughter, when she was our only daughter, we stayed at SSR, and getting to the parks seemed brutal, getting back more so. A lot of it had to do with being exhausted parents, our eldest was only 5 months at the time, she was waking up all hours, I'm sure you've heard rumors of what it's like. But having to stand on buses with a stroller didn't help, especially when she was crying. We drove as much as we could as a result. First trip with both kids, we did BLT. It wasn't "the perfect vacation" but loads either than the first time, even with the addition to our happy family. Mostly because most of our days were spent at MK, so it was a 10 minute stroll away.
