Shifting Skies Brainstorming

Hi, boys!
:) Hey, Weirdone! I have some ideas for some more cups:

earthquake cup - a vibrator makes the cup shake while spinning.
thunderstorm cup - this cup could be transparent and strobo lights would reproduce lightning and there would be thunder sounds.
snow cup - as it spins, fake snow would be thrown over the guests.
tornado cup - high, spinning wind would sorround guests in this cup.

I think each cup should have its own special effects, and these effects should not reach the other cups. It should be done in an inwards motion, so the rain would wet only the guests in that cup, and the heat, etc. This way, guests would feel like coming back lots of times to try all the different cups and choose their favorites. Well, I also think that some guests may feel uncomfortable with some effects, and then I thought that maybe the intensity of the effects could be controlled by the speed of the cup, controlled by the guests. So, if a guest is in the rain cup, for example, he/she could control the quantity of water splashed on them. If they wanna get soaked, they spin it faster. If its cold, or if they dont like being wet, they just spin it slower.

What do you think, boys?
Kisses for you all!

I think the teacups are a great idea... I'm not sure how far this has gone yet, but I had an idea for what the cups could look like. You could shape them to fit what they represent. (IE: Raindrop shaped for rain, Snowflake for snow, Tornado for tornado... ect.) Just a thought. ANd I totaly see the idea with Sorcerer Mickey, but I don't really think he fits into Epcot all that well.

Ok, I like that idea for the tea cups. Tati, you hear that. Make them inot the shape they represent. Althought wind and hail, etc might be a bit harder. As for mickey. He just SCREAMS! weather! He also screams merchandise, kids, and WEATHER! Plus mickey did all this weather stuff in Fantasia! He sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fits right in. Ok, now continue raving. - The WeirdOne :D

Weirdone, I can see what you're talking about with this fountain, but It ain't gonna work. Mickey does NOT control the weather, in fantasia, he had a DREAM that he made sparks fly around and water shoot up. Even still, I would hardly call balls of magic light a 'Meterological phenomenon'ask 50 people about the *1st* thing that pops into their mind is when they hear 'Mickey Mouse', Its not gonna be weather...Sorry...
No one has said no On the teacups....We just need some convincing, thats all :)

Currently, I'm working on a NEW building design...I'll have it up soon

Wind: A "gust" you know, what you always see coming out of those cartoon clouds when it's supposed to be windy.

Hail: A ball of hail (How hard was that? lol)

I dunno, just thought that would be a good idea, what does everyone think? I really think we should give the cups a go... the one's at MK are already extremely popular, but imagine what it would be like if the cups were given Special FX...

Ask everyone what thjey think when they hear mickey mouse. FANTASIA! what do they think when they hear FANTASIA!...Sorcere Mickey and he did the weather in a dream. Oh come on! I know in the back of your head, you are saying, "GOSH! I think Mickey would fit right in." Admit it. I see your point of view, but do you see mine? - The WeirdOne :D

Hmm, ok, sure, if this was a weather pavillion for Disney-MGM Studios or the Magic Kingdom, Mickey would be awesome, but this is Epcot. Epcot was meant to be a character-free place, now we all know things have changed since 1982, but still, the characters ought to stay out of the architecture of the Future World Pavillions.

And hmm, about the tea cups, i suppose as long as we theme them to an "experiment" that the Weather Station is conducting, I think it could be cool. Yeah, it would be real cool. All we'd need to do is put up a glass observation wall around them. Yeah, then i'd like these Storm Cups. I was worried they might take away from the weather center experience, but if you guys do them right, it could be sweet.

I was thinking, what if... the main character from the dark ride be on a "Weather Wonder XL" machine in the middle of the ride? You know, like an animatronic that is controlling the weather or something to that effect. Kinda like the doormouse on the MK teacups, you could hide the inner workings of the ride inside it. In fact, we could make this whole pavilion a sorta of an institute. An institute of weather. And guests are there to see how the scientists at this weather institute control the weather and all. The head of the department could be the main character from the dark ride, Professor Sirrus (Is that his name). I dunno, see what you think, ok?

I never really saw us putting an 'Exact' theme to the entire pavillion..Sorta the way "Wonders of Life" Is laid out, It's got the MET research center in it, but the rest is just fun, and brightly colored. Sorta the way I saw Shifting Skies, after all, these are PAVILLIONS, they don't all have to be like Seabase alpha, or like The IMagination Institute. I saw everything as being really bright and cheerful, and letting storm (chaser, rider, follower, whatever) be in a corner of it. The rest just general weather stuff without much of a central theme. But the teacups and the darkride/carausell of progress would be related

Of course goofster. Hundreds of instruments and mobiles and FUN!

Hey, since everyoen doesn't like Mickey, could we just replace him with the pavillion logo? but with the waves coming up the side, and all those things, etc? huh? - The WeirdOne :D

Here is a 'floor plan' of a vision I had for the building. It is VERY rough so excuse me for that........

I like your vision Imagineer. It is very good. We were originally going to have the pavillion be shaped like Mickeys head so the EMV and CoP could go in the ears and everything else in the head. I think that would make more use of the space we have rather than a squarish pavillion. That's my opinion though :). Anyways, I hope we can get settled on this idea too! - The WeirdOne :D

Space......

Ok here is the deal with space.......Mouse Ears, BAD use of space. Seriously, the worst geometrick shapes to use are Triangles and Circles when creating an exterior space for buildings. Circles are OK when outlining an interior space so that people can walk AROUND what space you have created (ex: Circular fountain/ponds). The best use of exterior space is that of a square/rectangle. This is because you don't end up with left over space like you would where the ears meat the head. Im not saying that the Mouse Ears is a BAD idea, its just that when concerving space you really should avoid circles as exterior parts of buildings. However, it is GOOD to have arced edges to give the buildling a sense of irregular shape and originality when in reality you are just bending a rectangular form (oh you got to love ARCH programming!).
