Sheriff at Animal Kingdom Lodge

The county sheriffs have law enforcement jurisdiction over Walt Disney World. Any incident that would require a police presence will involve the respective sheriff's office depending on where you are at Walt Disney World, most likely Orange County. Deputies also maintain a presence at Walt Disney World as part of the general security measures.

If a child did fall off a balcony, I'm amazed it has been kept quiet. I would also expect Reedy Creek Emergency Services to be on the scene.

The All Star resorts and the WWoS are in Osceola County. Pretty much everything else is in Orange.

I hope the little girl is OK, that is really scary. I know that when we stayed at the contemporary tower last year, I was a little panicked about the balcony and my active three year old. He never went out on the balcony unless he was in my arms (and I had a death grip on him) and we never got near the edge. I was a worried mess that he would somehow get outside while I was sleeping, even with the door locked and I ended up badgering my husband until he pulled some furniture in front of the slider as an extra deterrent. My husband thought I was crazy, but obviously kids can fall from the balconies.
Since my DS was TINY i have always been paranoid about balconies- I flat out told him- you climb on this and you could die- he took me seriously, but I NEVER let that kid out of my sight if we were in a room with a balcony!

I've stayed at Jambo house this past weekend actually (wasn't there when this happened I left sunday) but if the kid stands on the table that's on the balcony then they are at a pretty perfect height to get over the balcony... My friends daughter is 5 and wasn't allowed on the balcony unless one of us we're out there because she was climbing all over the table to get a closer look at the animals so I can see how a child could fall off even if the rails are taller then normal there

You sign a document at check in stating that if you throw anything off your balcony that they can eject you from the resort. It wouldn't surprise me if they have cameras on at all times to monitor this - as well as monitor the animals.
Did they eject this family from the resort? Not yet?

I do hope this girl is alright though.

They do. A Coke bottle rolled off our balcony at night last May, and before I had a chance to call them and let them know our phone rang with the Animal Cast warning us to be careful. Of course, we didn't throw it so it couldn't land in any animal areas, but that shows how serious they are. The CM said they have HD night vision cameras on at all times, and they sometimes call and sometimes don't, but rest assured they are watching. EDIT: There are also notices in Welcome Packets warning of surveillance cameras and to close blinds.

I can tell you if you have explorer type kids you just can't watch all the time. I had to put locks on my all my outside doors high up the doors so my son just wouldn't let himself out and go for a walk around the hood. One day when he was like 3 he decided to take the dog for a walk (more like he followed the dog tied to the dogs leash) and a neighbor grabbed him a few hundred yards down the street. Think that's when I put in extra locks high on the doors. It wasn't just me, luckily I live in kids neighborhood and for a while we were grabbing escape artists left and right. It gets crazy especially if you have more than one running around. For a while I was terrified of the toilet flushing because my kids thought it was the coolest thing ever, pretty sure that's where one of my sets of car keys went. Hard to explain unless you have an active kid in the family or two or three. Turn your back and out the door they go and they figure out locks pretty quickly.
I know it's not funny- but it made me giggle:oops:. Seriously, that's really scary! So glad I had a clingy toddler:D

My goodness! I hope she's OK. More bad press for DISNEY.:bawling: However, IMHO, the child should have been more carefully watched especially on a balcony.

It's a 6 year old girl. That's old enough to open doors to the balcony by herself. It's also old enough that most parents would feel comfortable with their child on the balcony while keeping an eye on them from inside the room.

As much as you want to protect your kids, there are times when they do things because of their lack of fear or understanding of danger. Chasing a ball into the road, not stopping at an intersection when riding a bike, or standing on a chair and leaning over a balcony. I would not be quick to judge the parents in this case. This is very different than having children sit on a railing at a zoo where there is obvious danger. A six year old on a balcony looking at animals is a safe activity for most children.

When we first moved here, we had a neighbor's child who was like that. We used to call him Harry (Houdini) because he was so good at escaping. As my mom used to say about the seven of us - "Every child is different."

saw authorities at BLT several times while we were there 8/15-8/25. i remember a sheriff a couple different days, and a fire truck/ambulance for another. never managed to find out why, though i don't recall that happening during previous stays....but in a big resort, bound to happen.

I can only imagine what security gets to see with those cameras.

Some people don't realize that while they can see out of a window, others can see IN. I used to work in Times Square, and the buidling across the street was a well known hotel. Once I was having a staff meeting (my back was to the window) and one of my workers' eyes got huge and her jaw practically dropped to the floor. I turned around and there was a man just out of the shower, toweling off his hair while looking down onto the street below. He had no idea that all the people in the office building across the street could see him. That would happen quite often, actually.

Of course, there were other people who DID know that people in the offices could see them and would put on shows.

I am sure Disney has the same effect on people when they look out the sliding glass doors forgetting their state of undress....

This reminds me of a very memorable trip down the Sassagoula River I had one evening back when the tree houses were used to house international cast members.
