Hey, saw pictures of Sheriff's cars at AKL on Twitter and a friend who is a CM there said it was a scary and crazy day but can't say why per Disney. Anyone know what happened?

I read on another board a little guy fell off a balcony of a Savannah View room and that he was going to be okay.

I cannot find anything to back it up though via news sources though.

Whoa! If this is fact I am glad the little guy will be okay. I have never stayed at AKL (will be in January), are the balcony's a concern if you have children here?

The county sheriffs have law enforcement jurisdiction over Walt Disney World. Any incident that would require a police presence will involve the respective sheriff's office depending on where you are at Walt Disney World, most likely Orange County. Deputies also maintain a presence at Walt Disney World as part of the general security measures.

If a child did fall off a balcony, I'm amazed it has been kept quiet. I would also expect Reedy Creek Emergency Services to be on the scene.

I am surprised it has been kept quiet also. That is why I mentioned I could not find anything to support it.

I read that the rails are high and in order for a child to fall they would have had climb up on something.

I have to admit I am curious and would love to know if what I read was indeed true.

stayed there several times. a child cannot fall over the railing unless they climbed over the railing. also, the fences (invisible) for the animals doesn't even come close to the building, so they would not have fallen into the animal areas unless they got up from the fall and walked into the animal areas. if they did fall and are ok, then they couldn't have been higher than the second floor. third -fifth floors would be too great of a fall to just be ok (would hit balconies below on way down).

If a child fell off a balcony...lawsuit in 3...2...1.

Disney better get some netting up or something on those if children can slip through (if that is in fact what happened)....and I'm not even kidding. :jawdrop:

Last year a child fell off of the railing of an exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo (you know, the railing marked "DO NOT SIT CHILDREN ON RAILING" with like, 15 signs around it warning of danger? Yeah, that one) and actually fell into the exhibit's safety netting... and fell at just the right way to bounce OUT of the net and into the exhibit.

It didn't end well, unfortunately.

Yes. Balconies are always a risk with kids. Unless you're on the first floor, they can fall.

Disney does a good job with their balconies, but kids are kids and must be watched all the time, especially around heights!

But the AKL balconies are no more dangerous than any others.

That didn't apply to them though!

It's the same with everything..."No flash photography"..."That doesn't mean us"..."Do not sit on the tractors!"..."Here timmy, hop up there for Mom to take your picture!"...people these days...
