Shark Tale

First off, I don't think anyone should compare it to Finding Nemo. Yeah, it's 3D animated, and it takes places underwater, but other than that it looks absolutely nothing like Nemo.

The trailer didn't look half-bad. I think it looked good, and the star-powered voices is an extra plus.

I think DreamWorks has done a great job with their animated films. Remember Antz? That did well, and it was good. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron, not the greatest of films, even managed to pull in some money. I think Sinbad did horrible because of poor advertising and bad reviews. If they had done a lot more advertising, it may have made a little more. I think Shark Tale is going to do just fine at the box office.

As for Shrek 2's box office.....it's going to be BIG. It has no competition its first weekend, and the second weekend it'll only have The Day After Tomorrow, and it probably will still stay number one in figures even with TDAT out. Now when Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban comes out, then it'll drop. For the first weekend, it should make back its production budget and some advertising costs. Its opening alone should make more than Finding Nemo's $73 million dollar opening. Shrek 2 is going to be a huge movie. In fact, I read that they've already started work on 2 more sequels.

I thought ANTZ was one of the dumbest movies. It was nothing compared to Bugs Life, which was out at about the same time.

I don't know how this movie will turn out, I may love it. I was just saying that when the preview came on, the first thing that came to my head was NEMO. Obviously, Nemo did so great, so it only made sense to make a copy. If it was, indeed, put into production before Nemo, why isn't it being released until now? Voices can only do so much. HOTR had almost every character played by a celebrity, and it didn't do great.

I would not count out Shrek 2 so fast. It is going to have one of the largest premiers of any movie in the number of movie screens it is being shown on. Also, not releasing the movie at the same time as another movie that is aimed towards the same audience is good business sense.

Also, I know this is a board full of Disney fans, but I don't see why so many ppl are so quick to discount competitors films.

I liked Shrek, I will see Shrek 2. I don't think that Dreamworks films are better than Disney films, but I also don't think that the recent Disney films (not including the Pixar films) are the greatest either.....

I will make 2 predictions.

1. Shrek 2 will earn at least $100 million by the end of this weekend.
2. Shrek 2 will be reviewed better than "Home on the Range"
I was going to say the same thing, I hate to take sides against Dan, but They have been selling tickets to Shrek 2 at our local theater for 2 months now and they are sold out for atleast the first 2 weeks of its release, thankfully I was able to get in and get tickets hehe!Sorry to say this Dan, but I have to disagree with you on this I doubt very highly that Shrek 2 will be a bomb infact it looks like it is going to be a success even before it has come out!

Shark Tale and the Incrediables will be flops in the 3-D terms maybe not huge one like Sinbad and Treasure but in the 3-D world flops. I think that the Polar Express will come out this winter as the kids movie. Also this summer Sherk 2 could have out paced the Lion King, but Harry is coming out so soon- thats going to take the spot light off of Sherk real fast. I want to see Sherk 2 but I am dying to see Potter.

I think Polar Express will do rather well, as it is coming out the week before Thanksgiving, which is the slot usually given to blockbuster movies.

I don't really think anyone can say any movie WILL be a flop or a success, as until the marketing machines go in to full force, and until the first weekend is over and word-of-mouth starts to happen, nobaody really knows.

At least we have a significant number of animated films to look forward to.:)

What is Polar express? I have never heard of it!

The Polar Express is the movie based on that little children's book. It's a cute book, but it's really short so I didn't know what the story will be like for a movie.

The movie's CGI, though. there's a small trailer out there.

Who knows, I have never heard of it, but it could do ok, but I have not seen any advertizements or even previews of it at the beginning of other movies.

The problem with "The Polar Express" is that the book's widely known in the US only. It'll be shown down here, but its biggest appeal is Tom Hanks. I'm a huge fan, but I still don't know if I'll see it. "The Terminal", on the other hand...

As for "Shark Tale", I'll probably get pummeled for this, but by the trailer I just saw I already like it a whole lot more than Nemo. I really don't know what everybody sees in Nemo. I've watched it, like, 3 times already, and except for small parts, like the seagulls and some others, the film does nothing to me. They promoted Bruce so heavily and the guy is barely in the movie. It's a cute story and all that, and the voice talent is great, but to me it's no competitor to the likes of Toy Story, Monsters Inc. or Bug's Life.
I do believe it's not comparable to Nemo, though. Completely different movies, just like Antz is completely different to Bug's Life. One thing is to compare Armageddon to Deep Impact, for example. But Nemo and Shark HAVE nothing in common except they're underwater. What, can you compare Nemo to the Little Mermaid? Both have fishes in them!
I'm one of the brave few who admit it: in my book, the only flops Dreamworks has produced is Spirit and Antz. I LOVE Road to Eldorado, and liked Shrek and Sinbad very much. I'm eager to watch Shrek 2 and I'm getting Shrek 3D as soon as I can. If Shrek 2 and Shark Tale are gonna be flops or not... Only time will tell.

One issue dreamworks HAS to overcome is making kids movies that are too "adult" for kids..cat in the hat suffered from it..and shrek2 has a few things in it that also plague the kiddie feel. Shark tale looks like it has MANY things that kids wont "get"...but its too early to say for sure

Shrek 2 earned $104.3 million in its opening weekend, and has earned $125.3 million since its wednesday premier....very impressive.

I saw Shrek 2 this weekend and loved it, I laughed through the whole movie. I also saw the trailer for Shark's Tale, and I'll be seeing that as well when it premieres.

Sherk 2 rocked. Puss in Boots was hilarious so Mongo (I loved the Stay-Puffed Marshmallow man growing up). I thought the trailer for Shark Tale looked really good. I will going see it but I am really looking forward to seeing Harry Potter and even more than that Two Brothers. I love Tigers.

just say Sherk 2 I thought the animation was great and the movie was good also. But the preview for Sharktale looked terrible, first it to NEMO, but the animation looks like crap. I think this two movie a year thing is going to hurt Dreamworks. Sherk looked great while Sharktale looks like it was on a strict budget. The trailer for Polar looks good and garfield looks boring. Also the Incrediable didn't seems to get eth laughs. It came on before Sherk 2 to a full house an only a few people laughed. Last time a PIXAR movie came out I remember people clapping for it.
