Sharing Meals at Family-Style Restaurants

I know that under the Disney Dining Plan, the WDW restaurants don't mind if you split a meal with another diner. I also know that you can't share a meal at buffet restaurants (i.e., Boma). But can you share meals at the family-style restaurants (i.e., Ohana, Liberty Tree Tavern)?

A dumb question I'm sure, but I'll ask it anyways.

Thanks!

Since its served family style everyone takes as much as they want, and you can get seconds & thirds on any part of the meal, there really is no need to share.

Well, technically you are all sharing since the meal is served on a platter. But everyone will be charged for the meal. At LTT (and maybe the others) there is an entertainment fee even if you don't eat.

I agree with ypcat.

If you are served the family style meal at LIberty Tree or 'Ohana, everyone at the table will be charged.

Someone who orders something else, perhaps because of dietary restrictions, should be able to grab a spoonful of potatoes with no problem.

However, I really don't understand "sharing" if everyone is eating the same stuff off communal platters.

Many of our family members don't eat very much, so we never go to family style or buffet restaurants with them, as every adult or child has to pay the same regardless of the amount of food consumed.

exactly my thoughts. If you have a small appetite, you're better off skipping the buffets and family style meals.

Sorry Chuck, but if it's all-you-can-eat family-style grub, there's no way Disney could make sure you're only eating half of what you'd normally eat the way they could if two people split one single entree. "But I'm still hungry, I swear! I only ate half a chicken, I normall eat a whole one!"

Heck, if that was the case, who's to say a whole family of 7 won't try to share one plate? "I'm the really hungry one, the rest of them will just pick...hey, look over there, is that a monkey? (quick, eat eat, don't chew, just swallow, eat eat) oh, I'm sorry, that wasn't a monkey. BOY, I must be hungry! I ate my plate all up while my kids were looking for that monkey with you? Can I get some more food? You know...FOR ME?!?!"

I'm sure you can ask if they'd make an exception if you really needed one (maybe someone in your party is allergic to some of the foods), but if the management of the restaurant saw that person eating anything off the family-style platters, they'd probably expect you to pay the per-person price for that person, too.
