Shareholders Meeting 2016

Since the cruise ships are going to be larger than the Fantasy and Dream, I am wondering if these are being built to compete directly with Royal Caribbean's quantum ships. I have heard on other travel sites that those ships - Oasis, Allure, etc. - are larger, just as nice and clean, equivalent or better dining experiences and customer service, with solid kids clubs and entertainment (not to mention gambling - something I assume the Disney ships will never have). But the real kicker is that you can get staterooms that are at least half the price of the Disney ships.

It is one thing to say that DCL ships, when compared to other cruise line ships that are in similar size classes, are of better value because of the brand, amenities, service, itineraries, etc. It is quite another thing when your quality ships offer significantly less in terms of number of state rooms, dining experiences, shows, etc. then the competition, but are price out twice as much. I will be interested to see the design of the new ships and if there will be something new that is offered in terms of an experience on board.
Tell me about it.

Looking at same dates in June 2016:
4 Day Bahamian Cruise on RC = $539/person inside stateroom
4 Day Bahamian Cruise on DCL = $1,617/person inside stateroom

Yes, I get it that you'll get better amenities overall...but is it really that much better? I loved the DCL we did to Mexico in the mid 2000's but I wouldn't pay for it again.

But @WDW1974 is never right about anything

You know I make things up all the time so Dr. Blondie will invite me to cupcake parties!

Seriously, thanks for noting that.

This is the second time I've had this before anyone else online (or in 'real' media) and the second time that Disney"s dawdling has delayed the fleet"s expansion. Original timeline had ships coming in for 2018-19 and 2021. Now, they"ll likely take delivery of the first right in time for WDW"s 50th, which they will tie to DCL expansion ... because you know DCL was around back in 1971 and part of Walt and Roy"s vision for the Florida Project.

My strong belief, based on the size announced, was that Disney wasn't sure of how big to go and took forever to decide. Will be interesting to see what this does for ports and prices down the line.

And still ... I"d say you are looking at the Spirit and the Imagination.

a little. I think the hardest was from the CM who went over to DCL and had some of his benefits pulled. He never said what they were, but my guess they were park admission type. He gave him a little grief over not answering his letters that he wrote many times.

Another guy gave him crap early on about not making board members available to talk in person.

as for the others, some the questions were not overall bad, but the way they framed them were very unprofessional and to sappy for a meeting of that level. Yes its Disney, but no one needs to know your grandkids name and how they love whatever. We get it.

BTW, been quite occupied today and unable to follow the meeting, but did anyone actually give Bob and Co a hard time? Anyone? About anything beyond typical fan stupid stuff?

One shareholder asked about very specific points of the last MiceAge update - removing the third attraction from SWL, and cutting moving sidewalks from the new structure. He even told Bob that Disney execs are out of touch with the DLR parking situation because they "just park at the Grand Californian." He was the real MVP today.

Typical stock answer, throughout the process ideas, attractions and other elements are added and removed for many reason. Overall, they are very happy with the plan today and mentioned the Millenium Falcon ride.

and cutting moving sidewalks from the new structure.
Claimed they didnt know anything about any moving sidewalks and Iger even asked anothjer board member. Dont exactly rrmemner what the answer was but there are no plans for moving sidewalks IIRC.

He even told Bob that Disney execs are out of touch with the DLR parking situation because they "just park at the Grand Californian."
They all chuckled and left it at that

He was the real MVP today.

This ruined it for me. People before her were asking good questions about investing more in the parks , consumer products and into other successful divisions instead of ESPN and here comes the pixie duster .

I took an interest in the comment about how they do not plan to expand the magic band capabilities. While in general, i'm not a fan of them (hate FP+), but i can see the potential in geolocation and guest recognition opportunities.

Without enhancing these, what do we really have? $2 billion worth of resort door keys?
So we hear two days ago that they're going through with the storymaker thing and now they are not exapnding capabilities? I get they don't want to spend more money but that doesn't mean no MM+ in future lands/attractions, does it? And surely that doesn't mean they aren't going through with storymaker despite what we heard a few days ago, eh?

Kind of saddening in general because I have believed in MM+ from the first day and still think it's a great idea with great potential. It's too bad most people can't see over the mountain. They're just staring at the ugly rock.

They may not be inviting you to cupcake parties but they're clearly trying to bribe you with that ship name. :D

Are those just jokes, guesses, or is that actually coming from a source and grounded in truth? If you can say.

EPCOT expansion question... Bob deflects and talks about frozen and soarin.
This concerns me. Why would he deflect it and not just answer that it isn't in the budget for this year but they are looking into it. I hate that my favorite park of all the parks all over the world is becoming the MGM Studios of Disney Parks (Yes I meant MGM Studios as a reference to a park that wasn't completely thought through which is how I compare that to Eisner's redo of Epcot)

He basically said that they had no plans for expansion, however we are always adding like the new soarin and frozen rides! He said that they have a great team at immagineering looking into the future but nothing to announce. No one challenged him on the fact that those rides are not additions but new skins on existing attractions. He praised imagineering a few times if I remember correctly so I don't put much faith in that bit, but I could be wrong.

How much you wanna bet Disney took an option on those ships that they can cancel at any time...
