Shampoo and such

In a recent thread I was reading about what people do with the shampoo, lotion, ect. provided by the hotels. Some people donate theirs, others list them on ebay. What do you do with yours?

Also, I would have expected a better quality of shampoo, ect. at the Disney hotels than what you get. Some hotels in the country, like the W, charge about the same prices or less and have designer bath products. Disney seems to skimp on that a bit. Just my opinion:)

My husband and I, always save all our soaps, shampoos, lotions, mouthwashes, and anything else from every trip we take. Not at Disney, but we've stayed some places that give you shoe shine kits, shaving kits and sewing kits. I bought a rolling back pack several years back to use as our toiletry bag. Hubby goes on lots of business trips, so keeping all the "goodies" in the bag keeps me from having to run to Wal Mart and stock up on toiletries before any trip. It's also great in case we have any last minute pop up trips. Like we just booked a package in Atlanta for Dec 3rd & 4th for the SEC Championship game. (By the way... WARRRRR EAGLE!!) All I have to do is pack some clothes in a suitcase and were set. Don't have to buy anything.
Hi HagansMommie! and welcome! ( I know the welcome is probably kind of late, but since this is the first time I've seen one of your posts, I thought I'd say welcome). And.... WAR EAGLE!!!

Your idea is a great one. Those small travel size items can cost as much as (or almost) as the full size. I should start doing that.

And on the issue of....is that stealing?..... No, I don't think it is. They kept putting them in my room even if I hadn't used them, so I think they are going to use the same amount even if you take them or leave them there. They would probably throw the unused ones away just in case.

Kadee,
You are correct, they are ours. They are part of the amenities included in the price of your room. I asked a manager about this, btw.

Which goes back to why I wish Disney provided better quality bath products. The cost of the rooms are higher than anywhere else so why not supply products to meet that cost? This is why I think this...I believe that it is great that a hotel supplies this extra benefit to the customer. It is not our right to recieve anything complimentry and it's nice that we do. However, I have really long hair and I have to bring my own bath products on vacation because most hotels supply a shampoo/conditioner combo and that stuff just doesn't work for my hair. I don't mind bringing my own stuff, don't get me wrong. It's just that I have traveled to other hotels/resorts and in some places (cheaper than Disney) I have found that others provide a seperate shampoo and conditioner and they are of a higher quality (paul mitchal, redkin, ect.). I love the fact that at these hotels, I can actually use the complimentry stuff:). The point is that if we are paying so much for a room and Disney is choosing to offer this perk, why not splurg a tiny bit and spoil the consumer a little? I'm pretty sure the cost wouldn't be that much different. Besides, Disney has a knack for making deals.

So do you keep the Disney stuff anyway, or would you only keep it if it was "higher quality?" I personally like the soap and shampoo that Disney has - I don't use the "higher quality" items on a daily basis anyway (Ivory soap and Pert shampoo/conditioner combo).

BTW, does anyone know the actual brands that Disney does use?

I do keep it. Actually my husband keeps it:) It is his hobby to take all of that stuff.
The point was that if we pay high prices on hotel rooms why can't they do better too? They take pride in selling "better", why does it end at bath products? I'm not a shampoo snob:lol: I'm just curious why Disney doesn't go all out.
In January they were using Pro V all in one.

Disney has been cutting back for years and they go with the best deal and it seems the best deal right now is what they are using.

Yep, I sure do. Thank goodness I have not been faced with a "towel animal" dilemma. :) Actually, I called years ago , I simply don't like breaking rules or taking something that does not belong to me. Hopefully, you cannot fault someone for that.

Not sure where you were staying in Jan. but, the DVC had some orange clear stuff, which was NOT Pro V all in one. I brought that from home along with my Dove soap.

Because going all out costs money, which will, in the end, be passed on to you.
With all the perqs you get from staying onsite, why, pray tell, do you really need to worry about this? Is it really that difficult to take your own stuff?
I travel places that cost a whole lot less and they include breakfast. Should Disney do this too?

While I agree that price is definitely a factor, one must consider the sheer volume of guests Disney resorts host. In my experience, the more costly the shampoo, the more specialized it is for specific types of hair (i.e. color treated, permed, curly, straight, dry, fine, thick, etc.). Therefore, they may need to go lower end to provide a shampoo that really can work for the masses. Also, Pantene is not a bad product! Another point, especially regarding the soap, Disney might have picked soap and shampoo taking allergies and sensitive skin into consideration. Some soaps are a bit too harsh for me but Ivory is pretty mild . . . I'm sure most people have no problem with Ivory. Again, you are probably right about the price thing, but I'm just offering another view.;)

It sounds to me like Disney is missing an opportunity for a sponsorship. With all the shampoo they go through in a year, they could easily promote a product in their hotels. Maybe the product promises to make my daughter's hair as beautiful as Belle's or Ariel's hair. Maybe if I stay at a hotel, and they have a quality product, I will buy it when I get home. Maybe if the product has the added bonus of reminding me of my trip to Disney World, I'll be even more faithful. Just a thought...

The All-Stars installed liquid soap and shampoo dispensers in the showers several years ago. Many guests complained about the new deal (i.e. not being able to steal Mickey soap and shampoo) but the dispensers remain firmly glued to the shower stall walls! However, Disney does learn from their mistakes (Grizz, are you reading this?) and when the POP opened, they decided to use the good old Mickey soap bars! The All-Stars is still stuck with liquid soap and shampoo dispensers until the D-Army does something to help the oppressed All-Star guests!:lookaroun
I complained the other way - we LOVE the dispensers at the All-Stars, and were quite disappointed when POP had bars/bottles. I thought the shower gel was far better than the soap bar, and the shampoo was so good I wanted to take the bag home with me. :)

Are the dispensers still "up and running" at the All-Stars, specifically Movies?

This is a very good point that I had not considered. I'm not very sure that Disney cares more about our well being than it does about it's pocket book, but it would be nice to think this is the case:)

Hmm... that is so true! As it is now, I purchase the exact same shampoo/conditioner for each WDW trip I take. Then, throughout the year when I am feeling like I need a reminder, I purchase the "WDW" shampoo/conditioner and am immediately brought back! How neat would it be if there was a sponsored brand, like Pantene or something! I would, and I am sure others, would buy that brand for "memorable showering" at home!

In many cases, our well being and their pocketbook are actually very closely linked. Usually by caring about our well being they are also keeping their pocketbook safer - know what I mean? ;)

Also - as to the price (and ammenities) of Disney hotels as compared to others - it is all about "location, location, location". It is the same with beachfront or certain cities or any more desirable location. Whether it is a Ritz-Carlton or Motel 6, the rate is going to be higher if it is in one of those types of locations versus a cornfield (used for illustration - nothing against cornfields!) And that is what happens with Disney - they have location all wrapped up - so the rates are higher than for the same type of accomodations elsewhere. It is normal to see rates twice as high even for the exact same hotel brand if the hotel is a beachfront location - same with Disney.

I have a HUGE problem with Ivory. It makes my skin break out in blotches and it dries it out terribly. I don't react well to lye. BUT, your points are excellent and I find it absolutely NO problem to bring my own soap. :)

I have the same problem. I get itchy and extremely dry skin when I use it.

Excuse me for putting my foot in my mouth, but is it in fact Ivory soap that Disney uses for it's resort bar soaps?

This is what I was trying to point out.:) You expect more from a Ritz Carlton than from a motel 6 Right? And so you should. Maybe we could take the discussion to the level of Deluxe resorts versus Economy and all those in between. You would expect more from The Grand Floridian because you pay upwards to $400 a night to stay there. Sure, you are paying higher prices for the proximity to MK and the use of the Monorail but most people who go there, pay for the luxery. And on the flip side, the All-stars are the "motel 6" of the Disney property (yet still more expensive than a regular motel) and when people book there, they don't expect the same quality that one would expect from a deluxe resort. The Other resorts fall somewhere in between. The expectations of those hotels are also in between. It would not be Disneylike to make a distinction between the hotels/resorts (in many ways they already do, but that is for another thread) by providing different bath products for each group. Plus this isn't as cost effective. But since people expect a higher quality by booking Deluxe, it would be nice for Disney to live up to those expectations and while they are at it, they could make others people at other hotels happy too. Just because you book economy doesn't mean that you aren't spending your hard earned money too:) What a nice suprise to find bath products in your room that are usually reserved for the Ritz Carlton. It is a small thing, but it would be one more thing to add to your magical vacation. Bath product companies would jump at the chance to be exclusive Disney products and more than likely offer a great deal to have exclusive rights.
