Shampoo and such

In a recent thread I was reading about what people do with the shampoo, lotion, ect. provided by the hotels. Some people donate theirs, others list them on ebay. What do you do with yours?

Also, I would have expected a better quality of shampoo, ect. at the Disney hotels than what you get. Some hotels in the country, like the W, charge about the same prices or less and have designer bath products. Disney seems to skimp on that a bit. Just my opinion:)

Other hotels don't supply 20K+ rooms with them daily. :)

And, they don't have people like me stocking up on them every day if they need them or not. I used my own shampoo, but I did use their handsoap - and one bar lasted me all week. However, each day I'd collect the new ones, put them in my bag, and when I returned a new set would be there. Make great little gifts for kids at home.

I think Disney is good to give what they do. :)

I usually bring a bar or two of soap and at least one new bottle of their shampoo home with me. At least, when I stay in the Wilderness Lodge. On this trips when we stay at All-Stars, there is no shampoo to bring home!

When we first visited WDW, the little Mickey soaps and shampoo bottles were very much a novelty for us. We never used them, but we did "collect" them and took them all home for decorations in our "Disney" motif bathrooms. We thought we were very clever.

With the advent of the internet, I noticed that some people actively solicited for Disney soap and shampoo bottle donations for various causes involving sick children. I donated all of my Disney soaps and shampoo bottles to those people years ago and I have never brought one home since. They bore me now.

However, if they made a Woody soap bar, I would steal it!

How long ago was that? I'm just curious, because I stayed at Pop last month and they left handsoap, a bar of bath soap, and a small bottle of shampoo every day.

Yes, on my last trip I kept them for a specific kid I know at home with special needs that I will be bringing to WDW next October - thought a touch of magic before then would be good.

On my next trip in January I was/am going to save them for one of the causes you mentioned - I just don't know which ones are still active. The info about the one at AllEars hasn't been updated in a long time - I would love to know if they still do it.

The All-Stars installed liquid soap and shampoo dispensers in the showers several years ago. Many guests complained about the new deal (i.e. not being able to steal Mickey soap and shampoo) but the dispensers remain firmly glued to the shower stall walls! However, Disney does learn from their mistakes (Grizz, are you reading this?) and when the POP opened, they decided to use the good old Mickey soap bars! The All-Stars is still stuck with liquid soap and shampoo dispensers until the D-Army does something to help the oppressed All-Star guests!:lookaroun

Ah. I had thought a value resort was a value resort. In fact, when I checked in at Pop for the first time, I had expected the dispensers as you described. Thanks for setting me straight - just another reason to stay at Pop over the All-Stars. :) Between the soap and the bus system, it's better all around. :)

And the better... More central location...
I tell ya, I hope Disney doesn't realize that Pop Century might be a moderate resort.. I love that place.

That is a wonderful idea! On our first few trips, we brought some home because we thought they were cute. But on our last trip, we only used ONE bar of soap to wash our hands but they kept leaving 3 or 4 bars a day and more shampoo, which we never used ( I prefer my own). By the end of the trip we had about 25 bars of soap and 7 or 8 bottles of shampoo. I left them. Had I thought of what Woody just suggested, I could have brought them home and put them in my "Samaritan's Purse" Shoeboxes that we give every year. Now, I know what to do with them on our next trip.

I think I may try to talk my family into staying at the Pop. I've heard some wonderful things about it.

Woody,
I have to ask, do you consider taking the soap and shampoo stealing?

My husband and I, always save all our soaps, shampoos, lotions, mouthwashes, and anything else from every trip we take. Not at Disney, but we've stayed some places that give you shoe shine kits, shaving kits and sewing kits. I bought a rolling back pack several years back to use as our toiletry bag. Hubby goes on lots of business trips, so keeping all the "goodies" in the bag keeps me from having to run to Wal Mart and stock up on toiletries before any trip. It's also great in case we have any last minute pop up trips. Like we just booked a package in Atlanta for Dec 3rd & 4th for the SEC Championship game. (By the way... WARRRRR EAGLE!!) All I have to do is pack some clothes in a suitcase and were set. Don't have to buy anything.

We also save our soaps and shampoos for last-minute trips we take. My husband travels alot for work and many hotels do not give out decent shampoo or even shampoo at all. So, he brings those. On the note about automatic dispensers, the company I work for went to those and they really have not been a cost saver. They always break somehow and the refills are expensive. The refills have gotten more expensive than just buying the soap and the housekeepers are complaining about the mess they leave if they leak. Just another side of it...I find the bars of soap and shampoo add a more personal touch to my stay and prefer that to dispensers.

Roll Tide. ;) Nah, I wish Auburn best of luck in that game. Now, about that game next week though..... ;) :p

I love to bring home the soaps from the hotel. The kids like to use them.

Just for fun and the curiosity of the opinions of others, going back to the refillable mug debate, why would taking bath products be different from using a bottemless mug?
