To me, Forbidden Journey is the most overrated attraction in Orlando. It is a motion sickness machine, that doesn't capture the magic of Harry Potter beyond the queue. The storyline is weak, it basically throws you in front of various monsters from the series and then onto your back repeatedly. I'm a Potter fan, but the ride is a huge letdown for me.

I don't know if its the most overrated but it definitely is tough on those who are sensitive to motion sickness. Motion doesn't bother me but this ride had me feeling funky. The woman in front of me barfed as soon as she got off. The queue makes this ride I think.

My wife doesn't to good with motion but had no problem with this ride and neither did I. I queue is fantastic, but I feel the lives up to the quality of the queue.

Speechless.... Or I guess Textless is more appropriate.

I love Universal and love WWoHP, but I agree FJ is vastly overrated. Not saying it's a bad ride, but it isn't as great as people make it out to be. I'm still waiting for Universal to create an experience that is more enjoyable on the whole than Spider-Man. I'm expecting that may happen this summer with Diagon Alley opening, but we'll see.

Another Uni vs. Disney argument...

Do they pay people to come on to WDW boards and state the same tired argument over and over again????

Sigh....I love WDW and always will. Why people keep trying to make it about this huge competition I will never understand. I like Universal but is has no magic or special appeal to me at all. WWoHP is so small and cramped, you can't fit into the shops, the FJ ride made me sick then dumped me into a small gift shop, they rethemed a coaster to fit into the land, and they have a kiddie ride (Flight of the Hippogriff) that sucks. Yawn.

I love the Potter books. Looooove. But Disney is always where I will spend my money and where I will build memories with my family. Call me what you want, don't care. I love what Disney is doing and some random stranger from the internet trying to hate on my beloved park is like white noise to me. When I walk down Main Street or shop in the emporium or sit on a bench and just people watch or climb on board the people mover and watch Magic Kingdom beneath me I know that I am home- that is a feeling Universal will ever create in me.

If you like Universal so much- good. Enjoy it. But, go troll somewhere else.....

You are right. It really is the COKE vs PEPSI argument.

I got to Orlando, and usually visit both properties. For the most part it's 3 or 4 WDW days and 1 or 2 UNI days. But the fact is, like you, I get a special feeling in the WDW parks. It feels different, and with my family it just makes me feel young and happy. The Uni parks are great fun, but they are just parks. Better than Six Flags, lol. But still just parks.

Disney is MAGICal.

Universal has no magic? Atleast they keep their parks up. Look around. WDW is literally falling apart. Their maintenance is shoddy at best. Meanwhile Universal has upkeep that is impeccable. Universal is doing what WDW did in the past... Push the envelope with new rides and keep their parks in prestine condition. Universals new business model is Disneys old model. Quite ironic I agree.

And I'm with you I prefer Disney to, but it's because of potential not what they are currently doing.

And I hope you are not referring to me about trolling. I'm simply stating facts.

On the Forbidden Journey:

The ride system is an incredible achievement, but let's not pretend it's the best ride anywhere. I may take flack for this, but come on - the budget cuts show in some places, and the dome projections have never been 100% perfect in both brightness and appropriate motion blur. The lack of Dementor arms is bizarre, the dragon no longer has the range of motion it was originally intended to have, Aragog is a giant plush, and the Whomping Willow scene is poorly staged. For the most part, the characters don't really act much like themselves save a line here or there throughout the ride - that is, the plot is pretty nonsensical. Do I still love the ride for its crazy motion techniques, daring structure, and dazzling visuals? You bet! Is it better than Spider-Man, overall? In terms of narrative storytelling and consistent show quality, certainly not.

(Disclaimer: I'm not returning to WDW until they build something that justifies their insane ticketing prices. The Mine Train isn't that. I will be returning to Universal this summer to see Diagon Alley, and again whenever Kong opens.)

My take is that Disney has the magic, meaning the special feeling that people get being there. Whether it is past memories, or new ones, it's just "different" being there than it is at UNI.

That said, we have a really good time at UNI parks, and we don't skip them, we go and enjoy them. Spider-Man s hands down the best ride in all of Orlando. We are heading back in NOV and are doing 3 days at WDW and 2 at UNI... Nothing though will top that feeling of walking down Main Street...

You won't get flack from me, Skip. Spider-Man is better than Potter and I think Haunted Mansion and maybe Splash Mountain are too. It was however, the best new ride in Orlando since Spider-Man.

We can play the game of "this ride is better than that" all we want, but overall, UNI provides a more consistent quality experience for better value at this point, which is why I'd rather spend most of my vacation time there. Disney offers a handful of excellent quality attractions, mixed with some good ones and many more which are either only OK at best or poorly maintained.

Methinks your opinion is actually based on your first comment and not any of the rest that you tacked to the end. Forbidden Journey gives *you* motion sickness, thus Forbidden Journey isn't a good attraction. #soundlogic

I'm very prone to motion sickness. But we took a day and went to Uni in May 2012. My wife really wanted to see the HP stuff, so we did. I hadn't read anything about Forbidden Journey, so I rode it with her. That was the most miserable experience of my life. We had to go sit down in an air conditioned building for about an hour, before I even started to feel human again.

I could never recommend FJ for anyone prone to motion sickness. It is one of the most violent and nauseating things I've ever experienced.

FWIW, I've heard they have been really trying to lessen the motion sickness issues by changing the ride profiles and updating the domed projections...but I haven't personally been on it since these changes.

I do know before that, I'd feel a bit dizzy after the ride and wouldn't think of trying to go on it more than once a day.

I closed my eyes for nearly the entire ride once we got about 4 seconds into it, and I realized what was happening. I opened a few times and saw those giant projections, and that was enough to make me ever more nauseated than the thrashing vehicle already was.

If they're making adjustments, it will likely help the majority of those affected. There's nothing they can do to make it fun for someone like me, unfortunately. Heck, I can't even ride the tame side of M:S (orange?).

You are complaining about people making the same tired argument over and over, yet you go on to make the same tired arguments about WWoHP that has been made over and over?

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will be a nice addition to the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, it's debuting the same summer as two attractions in Universal that are expected to be more substantial. It's simply not going to look good by comparison.

That's like saying Frozen didn't look good because it came out in the same season as the Hunger Games sequel and Anchorman 2. Apples and oranges.

The difference is I interpret that analogy a bit different than I assume you do.

The way I see it, "Frozen" and "Hunger Games" would be equal to the new Harry Potter additions at Universal. The flashy Gringotts ride being "Hunger Games" and the likely award winning and innovative Hogwarts express being "Frozen".

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the forgettable "Anchorman 2".

Just reading this page of the thread gave me motion sickness. I had to scroll to the top to remember what the OP was about.
