September Rain

My partner and I are heading to Disney World Sept 21-Oct 2 and I have been reading up about the weather. Is it likely to rain continuously? I have looked at the extended forecast and it doesnt look good! But I know its probably a bit early to tell. I have been to Disney once before when I was 11 years old (now 25) but its my partners first time and I just hope it doesnt rain all the time!

It has been a miserable summer for the entire SE. I just heard somewhere that we set a state record here in NC for annual rainfall and there's still 4-1/2 months left. And guess what, rain in the forecast for at least 4 more days.

Rain in Sept can occure any afternoon..most likely in a quick thunderstorm...and then it passes..however there is always the chance of tropical moisture hitting..we are there 11-16 SEP and Im keeping an eye out now more on the tropics than anything else..

Last September it rained about half of our trip. The two Septembers before it rained once or twice and those were only quick spot showers.

I have found that it may rain and thunder in the afternoon but nothing too much too ruin a good park day, jump into a show or long ride chances are the sun will be back out by the time the ride finishes.

I agree with @sgtmgd watch out for the tropics, I can't remember what month it was but I am sure it was September, we where on our way to Mexico and got turned round back to the UK mid flight due to hurricaine Mitch, chose to go to Disney as a replacement holiday and caught the tail end of the hurricaine and got plenty wet for a few days but we didn't let a few days spoil our holiday, it was a great chance to explore some of the other things to do!

It hasn't stopped us from doing this September World we are on our way!

While there are some exceptional times, normally when rain is in the forecast every day ... it's not an all day rain event. i.e. you're likely looking at showers, especially in the afternoon due to tropical moisture. While I'd be careful with lightning, just pack some ponchos and go have fun  Now, if you're there during a landfalling hurricane or tropical storm, that's a different story. Fingers crossed that the tropics remain quiet for all of us.

It's Florida. Raining is what it does. There are parts of the state where you can set your clock by the afternoon thunderstorms. I have first-hand experience of this phenomenon; I grew up there. It's way too far out to predict the weather for your trip, so I wouldn't sweat it. You might get lucky and happen upon a dry spell, or you could experience a few downpours. Luckily, for you, September is still a little early for the cold fronts to start rolling through, so you likely won't experience full days of rain and clouds.

Bring some cheap pocket ponchos, just in case, and you'll be fine. If it does rain, it likely won't last more than a half hour. And, hey, that's what Ellen's Energy Adventure is for.

Yes, it will rain. September in FL is different then in the summer. The summer months bring hot humid days that saturate the clouds, it rains for a bit and then the cloud is empty and floats away. This is not September. In September, you can get full on storms and weather patterns that bring storm fronts over FL and yes, can last all day. When we traveled in September last year, we got washed out several days. We never got to see Wishes b/c of the rain. As well as not being able to ever catch the movie on the lawn. This doesn't mean that your trip will get this much rain. There may not be any for your trip. But I just wanted to make the point that the rain in the summer is very different then in September. Its just the rainy season rather then hot humid summer rain. I hope you don't get too much water. Some tips for rain though - bring ponchos in a zip lock bag. bring a folded up zip lock in there too for the Sham - Wow. Bring a sham-wow. Remember those squiggy rags from tv? They work great on people! They absorb the water off you and squiggy out. When wet, I toss them in the extra zip lock. As for which ponchos - we own several of the reusable Disney ones but the dollar store ones work ok and you can just toss them out. You can buy a few sets for your trip and just keep using them and tossing them off. And if you wear socks, bring a 2nd pair so you can change the soggy socks. :)

Well that's embarrassing. I was thinking November rain. Oops!
I'm so glad you fixed that! I was going to have to call you out on G&R sacrilege!

We were there in Sept. 2011 and it rained almost every day. Had a huge thunder storm one night as well. Didn't phase us. Just tossed on out ponchos and enjoyed ourselves. Heading back this year. As long as the tropics don't go crazy, we should be ok.

October and November are the best months IMHO. September is not quite far enough out of summer to clear our afternoon thunder storms. But they should not be as numerous as June, July, and August!

Every time we've gone in late September and early October, we've had some rain/thunderstorms. Some of them are short-lived, others seem to go on for days. We've never had a bad trip, even though it has rained the whole week. Being that there has yet to be a significant hurricane this year and the weather service says that the second half of the season looks to be busy...expect rain but enjoy your days...a rainy day at WDW is better than a sunny day at work.

There is no way to know how much rain we will have then. But in general, it will rain. Could rain all day. Could hurricane. Could be nice. I'm hoping for nice!!

Hot, humid, chance of rain the afternoon/evening. That is a fairly typical forecast.

We sure have had a lot of rain this year. Maybe we will have an awesome September! :D

Go to weather.com and check the monthly averages out for Walt Disney Resort. Yes too early to tell but July (Aver. 7.05 in. and got in 2013 8.51) and August (Aver. 7.71 in. and got 3.80 to date) get more rain on average than September (Aver . 5.09in) Since July 1 only 2 days has more than an inch of rain fallen, and 4 days between 1/2 and 1 inch. It is going to rain a little everyday, no biggie. Obvioulsy there is always a chance of a big storm. Check the tropics 10 days out before you leave. Good luck and hope you have great weather.

You'll be fine! Its summer in florida at that time of year. You'll have the occassional pop up thunderstorm and then the sun will be back out. I been to Disney in Sept twice and both times we hardly had any rain at all. Only time you'll run into an issue is if there is a tropical storm/hurricane in the area.
