Sending yourself a care package?

Many apologies but I cant seem to find anything on this subject in the forums??

However, I was considering sending myself a care package to the hotel I was going to stay in. The care package would contain a styrofoam cooler packed with breakfast goodies like cereals, oatmeal etc to help cut back on money spent during our stay. Has anyone attempted to do this? Any other great ideas would be welcome.

Thanks! :slurp:

i will be taking packets of cereal and a small cooler bag. dont get me wrong i love fruit loops and you cant get them where i live but it would mount up to be expensive.
dont forget if you are staying in disney hotels they have microwaves in the food court as well as toasters and if you have a fridge in your room thats an added bonus.

i normally buy a fruit dish ie strawberrys and grapes with banana bread and some sort of fruit dip and that comes to $3.49 or something like that. i have never had a full and proper meal in the parks though.

For breakfast, we usually bring cereal, bread, and peanut butter. We then buy some milk and OJ each morning (for us, at Captain Cook's at the Poly, but you can do it lots of places). You can usually pick up some little packets of jelly, and plastic silverware there too. I wouldn't mail it, its not too much to carry with you.

Whenever I go, we bring two boxes of cereal with us for breakfast, and then when we get there we buy milk at the food court (or wherever milk is available) and put that in our room's refrigerator. The one milk jug can usually last us the whole trip. We bring recyclable bowls and spoons too, so we just use them over. And we just use our refillable mugs for coffee or orange juice in the morning for drinks. We never have actually had to worry about care packages, it's really not a big deal. Just bring your own breakfast for the morning, and spend your money on snacks during the day or lunch, and then of course dinner.

Thanks!

Its not that I am cheap but its four of us that will be going and I am trying to figure out where I can put the cereal, oatmeal, etc. Three of the four going are females so if you think there's any room left in the luggage for breakfast your crazy! LOL! If I have any room left in my luggage my wife will be using it up!

I will call the hotel and see what they suggest.

Thank you all!

We did it this year and there was no problem. Just tell the front desk that there should be a package for you and they will give it to you. Call the resort and make sure that you have the right address to send it to.

Ahhh!!! People who don't pack light! I got by for 3 weeks in Europe with only a backpack and a duffel bag.

No offense.

Packages can be sent to guests (including yourself) by ensuring that the Lead Guest name, arrival date, and Reservation number is clearly printed on the package. PM me if you need Resort addresses.

We will be going in early Dec. and we will be staying in a villa. Since we are flying, I can't see bringing all the food on the plane. So I called the front desk of the hotel. They said send any non perishables a week to a week and a half ahead of time, and include your name , reservation #, and arrival date.
They will hold it for you.

I would use either a sturdier cooler (plastic) or a good cardboard box. One thing that you could do when shipping is to remove the outer box and just ship the inner package. The inner bag will allow you to pack more efficiently in a cooler as the top is somewhat wider than the bottom (in most coolers). The advantage of a box is that it’s cheap and you don't have to figure out what to do with it once its time to go home. If you wanted to use it to put ice in to keep things cool, it doesn't work to good. Don't forget some plastic bowls and spoons.

We're packing little cereal boxes, Pop Tarts, and granola bars in big Gladware things and putting in the suitcase. Then we have a few big empty Gladware containers to transport home breakables (or if I want, to just throw out since I ban buy more hehe). We're also bringing a little Coleman cooler (fits just a six pack) to keep milk on ice. The cooler is small enough that it will easily fit in our suitcase. We're staying at Pop, so there's no fridge and it'd be just as expensive to rent a fridge for two of us as it would be to eat Mickey Waffles every morning.

For what it would cost you to MAIL something of that size and weight, you would and could spend less getting a cab for an hour and going shopping somewhere in Orlando... HECK, you would probably spend less buying everything at your resort food court!!!

We've sent packages many times for my trips down. We send down cereal, diapers, wipes, laudry detergent (we usually stay at OKW and have a washer/dryer so it saves on the amount of clothes we need to bring) and other items. I usually only send down stuff i know i'm not taking back home and saves a lot of room in the suitcases.

When traveling with infants or toddlers, it's a huge convenience to send the diapers and stuff ahead of time.

Just ship a box to your resort and put your name and arrival date on the box with a message that reads, "Hold for arrival on ________ (enter date here)" It's so easy to do and really saves the hassle of packing this stuff.

Enjoy your trip!

Only 66 more days til I'm home!! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

I've never actually sent myself a care package, but we always buy cereal, milk, bread, sandwich meat, cheese, drinks, and snack-type foods either before we leave or after we arrive. We usually drive though, so we don't have to worry about the plane tickets. We have loved doing this, because we just head to our resort for lunch and then back to the parks for a PS dinner. It saves some money this way, and we can eat at the more expensive restaurants for dinner or breakfast without going over our budget.

This may sound strange, but isn't there a possibility that purchasing all that stuff, then sending it down, may cost more than just buying the cereal, oatmeal, and whatever else at the local Wal-mart or grocery store (NOT Goodings! Go to Publix!) when you're in Florida? I mean, when you think how much shipping may cost...

I've heard that it's ok to ship to the resort, but call them and see if they can suggest what shipper you can use (I'd suggest one that has tracking ie Fed Ex or UPS) because when I was there last I was in one of the shops and there was a man trying to buy every last bottle of baby food they could find in the resorts because the box they had sent didn't arrive in time for them to go on the cruise they were booked on. If I hadn't been just getting over a case of the flu, I would have taken the guy over to the store myself.

Give them a call and see what they suggest.

We are taking laundry detergent down with us to save on the amount of clothes I have to have packed for hubby and myself. Will do laundry right on site (saves amount of bags to have to drag through the airport to check-in with and it only costs $2 to wash and $2 to dry) As far as food I have taken it down with me. I was talking about shipping our Christmas tree and ornaments down, but hubby decided we would just bring them down to cut down on the costs of shipping. (We shipped things from the hotel back when we got married and it was quite pricey for the size box we sent.)

If you get a sturdy enough box you can forgo the cooler, just buy whatever amount of milk you need for that mornings breakfast. Or as someone said stop at the store for milk if you are staying where there is a fridge in the room.
