I'm new here.... and been wondering....

if we are staying in a Disney hotel (Contemporary, this time) can we go to see the other resorts during our stay?
we've been to the Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Yacht Club, and Boardwalk Villas ~ but would like to get a look at other resorts too....

also, can we use their facilities? - such as restaurants?, pool?, other?

Welcome!

You can visit the resorts whether you stay on property or not and thats part of the fun! You can eat at any restaurant and shop in any gift shop, but the pool facilities are for the resort's guests only.

yep we stayed at allstar movies and spent a day out of the parks going round the other resorts. using boat (to wilderness) monorail (comtempary) boat to Boardwalk had a great day and done some shopping on the way round for items you can only get in those resorts. Plus checked out places for our next holiday..either poly or caribbean.

:sohappy:Welcome! Looking at the other resorts is so much fun! Because each has its own "theme" they each have their own original "magic". If you get a chance to make seating arrangements, try in one of the other resorts, arrive early and look around. The holiday season makes this extra special as well!

Hi. Yes, you can visit the other resorts.

You can do just about anything except use the pools. I'm pretty sure if resort tours are offered (such as at AKL) you can take them but you may want to double check on that.

Will you have a car? If so, just let them know you want to look around. I think they will give you a 2 or 3 hour parking pass.

thanks

for the responses... will try to find time to see some other resorts... hearing such good things about Polynesian, and personally curious about Wilderness Lodge... we won't have a car - wish the animal kingdom lodge was easier to get to.....

any suggestions for resorts with particularly unique shopping opportunities?

curious = how do they control use of the pool?

We usually stay at the AKL, so we love to go over to the Poly and soak up the atmosphere, even went over to to the as movies and ate at the food court. It is alot of fun to see the other resorts.

Since you want to visit the WL check out the Mercantile...they have some Northwest style shirts, pjs, etc. I love the little wooden totem poles and bears...I have a few here at home. I always like to shop in the Contemporary and the Boardwalk has a nice group of shops.

As for the pool, we have been checked to make sure we have a key card that matches our resort and I've seen people escorted out of the pools at the WL and the Polynesian because they were not staying there.
Some people will try anyway (and thats up to them), but to me its not worth the embarassment of being told to leave.

You can get to any resort form the parks, just get on the bus, boat or monorail.

There's so much to do at the Wilderness Lodge. They have trail rides, a petting farm etc.

Also, AKL is not that hard to get to. No harder than many of the others. Personally, I'd try to arrange a cab from AK the day you go there and maybe treat yourselves to a dinner at Boma or Jiko and spend some time looking at the animals. It's really nice. :)

For our upcoming trip, I have lunch/dinner ressies at 3 different resorts (AKL, WL, and Poly). We are looking forward to not only eating at some unique restaurants, but spending time exploring the resorts, getting some photos, and shopping.
To get to AKL we are heading over there on the bus after AK closes, then we can take a bus to MGM and take the baot to get to our resort (Swan). Poly dinner is on a day off from the parks, and WL will be a lunch break on our last day....will head there from MK then probably head over to Epcot to finish out our trip.
The boys are also doing a Pirate Cruise from Yacht Beach Club so while they are off getting their booty, we can explore this resort.
We are really looking forward to our upcoming trip! So many exciting things planned :)

Akl!

One of our favorite things to do is to make ressies at Boma in AKL right before nightfall, arrive early enough to see the animals outside. Our whole family LOVES Boma, even the kids! We always try to visit at least one new resort each trip until we have seen them all, which we almost have!
