Security Checkpoints

I'd like to say one thing really about the checkpoints.

Not one terrorist will use a handbag to do the job, they will strap it to their body.

The checkpoints don't do anything but provide psychological comfort. They hold up time. The checkpoints don't help out 'anything'. I wish they would tear them down and stop trying to play superhero.

Thats all I'm going to say on the topic. I'm not really even looking for debate. I'm not trying to change their minds cause they aren't going anywhere. I feel like I'm going through an airport everytime I visit an amusment park. Lets add some to the malls, gas stations, and restaurants while we are at it.

Thanks for listening.

I agree that they probably have little effect other than creating a bottleneck at the entrance. Unfortunately they are now a part of life, thanks to those @#%*! terrorists. They have succeeded in taking away a small part of our freedom. :fork:

I don't like having to go through the checkpoints, so I usually don't take any bags with me.

I'd have to say I agree on this one. I always thought it did more for keeping guests from sneaking snacks in. Unless you build a wall around the park and check everyone the same way your not really going to stop anyone that is determined to do wrong.

Do I feel safe? Sure. It lets all the guests know that security is around. I think it needs to be a little more guest friendly. I'm not sure how they would do that. I always feel stressed when I go throught there when the crowds are big. Everyone in line want the person at the front to hurry up.

I haven't really run into a security person that was rude or mean about the search. I've even had them give suggestions like it's gonna rain today where's your umbrella.

They probably could get rid of it and still screen guests as they came in the park.

AH-HA! You said SEVERAL things! Quick! Get the wet noodles for a major thrashing!

Let's forget the checkpoints. Let's just go with the Israeli method used at airports. Plainclothes security (the type with Uzi's and semi-auto pistols under their coats, very highly trained) walk around and profiles individuals as they wait in the terminal. If someone draws their attention, they walk up and start asking questions. If you become belligerent with your answers or your answers raise suspicion, they take you to a holding room for further questioning and search. So far, statistics show this method to be very effective. Since Disney doesn't have an enclosed area like an airport terminal, waiting areas could be utilized where the existing bagcheck areas are located. Guest inconvienence? You better believe it! But the results are effective. If it's Disney, do it the best way, right?

Don't we all agree that our number one interest here IS security? If that's the case, why are we making Disney seem so venerable whether it is or isn't? It's all been discussed before & now it's only more visible to anyone who'd want to hurt us. :(

Maybe I would have a bit more faith in these security check points if they were more consistent. One time they barely glanced in my backpack and waved me through, completely disregarding my shopping bags which were also full and could very easily have held weapons or something illegal. Another time they saw some medication bottles and were quick to ask me what was in them. And then another time the woman made me completely unwrap my picture frame I had purchased earlier in the day to prove that it was, in fact, just a picture frame.

So maybe if all security guards had the same methods and procedures, things would be more consistent and they wouldn't look like as much of a time waster and psychological comfort as they currently do.

I dunno. Bored and work and babbling.

Thats right the security is top notch and really realy is more than cosmetic. Because these stupid terrorists would roll right up to the front gate with a belt bomb, it would be far to difficult to put a trailer packed with fertilizer into any hotel complex or backstage area. Next youll be telling me tinkerbells a man and flys on a wire.

heres my thought.

leave the security. its better than nothing, and the 5 extra minutes isn't that big of a deal.

There are ways around everything. There isn't any perfect security that can guarantee anything. Not an airports, or anywhere. But I would rather have some form of checkpoint, even though it might be pointless, rather than nothing.

if there wasn't any checkpoints or anything, people would probably start complaining about why it's not there.

its not that big of an inconvenience, so dont complain about it. its better than nothing.

Id rather have something that wasnt just cosmetic after all this useless guest comforter has to be funded from somewhere.

what are your suggestions then?

allthough i do think the security can be a lot better, it has to do something. EVen though there are ways around it, it makes it even easier for someone to bring something such as a gun into the parks without any security at all. there's nothing at all stopping them. I understand that there are tons of ways around the security, but it does do something, even if it's not much.

:)

I don't think they care much about snacks. We brought snacks last year, and they didn't stop us.

Repetitive searching achieves little, searchers cannot maintain a high degree of alertness unless aided by technology (airport style) random checks are one method checks in the car park at resorts not just one place and a quick look in a bag.

I dont wish to be insulting but ive lived with this for most of my working life. Thanks to PIRA we Brits have learned the hard way, only difference now is the messenger isnt bothered about getting away. It pays to keep them guessing.

Well I've said it before, but here goes again...

the security at WDW is a joke, it is totally ineffective with regards to the bag searches as noted above.

I resent the searches only because they are, in a word, crap! I'd have no problem with the extra queue time if I thought they were making myself or my family any safer, but it is plainly obvious that a bomb or a gun could be taken into the park without any real efforts and security would be clueless until the detonation.

The only time I have ever been through a park security measure that made me feel like a real effort was being made was at HHN at IOA last year. Full blown security, with airport style metal detectors and full back searches.
